80 feet (or roughly 16 vertical squares); the crow's nest is at 60 feet (or 12 squares)

Cool. Are there any advantages of making ranged attacks from higher elevation? I mean, I'm not going to risk Bob's crappy acrobatics skills climbing shit if there's no benefit to it and getting up that high would put his basic spells out of range anyway but if it's going to be a protracted fight (Or more likely, if we run into a protracted fight later) he might be safer shooting arrows from up a mast somewhere, assuming he can find a spot where he doesn't need one hand to hold on.

Also I want to know how far away from the mast I need to be to stop the pirate mage from casting spells at me.

Generally I've just been granting combat advantage (+2) for having the high ground.

As far as the enemy mage's range goes that is need-to-know basis metagame information

PS there's no rule against casting spells one-handed

How many turns would it take for Soggy to climb that pole, if he's climbing as fast as he can?

Soggy's top climb speed is 3, so theoretically only two turns, if you spent two moves a turn climbing.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Every player has stumbled over this, and every time I forget to explain it in advance. I blame myself
I blame the fact that people are apparently not reading the just-as-fun-as-the-game discussion thread and just reading the adventures.

How ya doing, buddy?
It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.
Touching butts had been banned by the evil Headmaster Frond.
Suddenly, Tina Belcher appeared in the doorway.
She knew what she had to do.
She touched Jimmy Jr's butt and changed the world.

Alright, loading and firing a cannon: what kind of actions are we looking at for that?

Can I do it in one turn? Loading as a minor and firing as a standard?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Logic would make me hope that the loading of the cannon (being the more time-consuming of the two) would count as a standard action, with the act of lighting a fuse being a minor.

At least if it's possible to actually do such a thing in one turn.

What would be the skill roll, plus the bonus/penalties for hurling a sword?

Not exactly planning on it but just out of curiosity.

Oh cool, I assumed that as a staff is two handed you'd need both hands for spells. A staff is two handed right?

Just an attack roll with the proficiency bonus removed and the damage roll cut in half.

A staff is a two-handed weapon, but as an implement it only requires you hang on to the damn thing.

I have enough problems

Additional Spam:
or, wait, do thread subscriptions not work in the Basement? I think I read something to that effect somewhere, something to do with Werewolf

Yeah. I've also never had a problem with following Werewolf when I've done my whole "POSTING TO SUBSCRIBE" post at the start of a game.

You know Garr, technically Bob can shoot straight past you with no negative effects. We call standing in the elf's line of fire "Operation human shield" and it's entirely to be encouraged.

Pang, what's Bob's maximum range with his longbow? Has he actually got a hope of hitting someone sixty foot above him and a good twenty feet distant?

Because I'm fucked if I'm climbing a rope to get to the wizard, I'll help Soggy shoot the cannons at the pirate ship once we run out of easy targets on our boat if the rest of you want to climb up and chop up the wizard. I promise to catch any good loot she drops though!

A longbow's effective range is about 40 squares at maximum so really the main thing stopping you from hitting anyone with it is that Bob is kind of crap at the whole "using weapons" business.

How are the pirate's ropes attached to the ship? I mean, do we need to actually cut them or can we just unhook them, if for example our characters were a bit light in the bladed weapons department? Or alternatively, would a decent Fireblast spell burn through them?

I'm not sure if anyone else can reach the rope at the front of the ship in time but Bob can Expeditious Retreat 14 squares which will get him within spell range of the rope. Given his inability to hit human sized targets, I'm not too confident he can shoot through ropes from range. Actually, saying that, although he can only do basic attacks, he's not a bad shot per se. What's kind of AC would you attribute to a rope if one was to try to cut it with an arrow Pang? Bob might be up for some Robin Hood shit for a change.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

They're attached via grappling hooks, as I believe I mentioned. Besides cutting them one could ostensibly make a strength check to pull the hook out or, yeah, burn the rope. The ropes are... let's see, tiny, immobile object... with a clear line of sight, AC/Reflex 10.

Also, I'm just going to go ahead and wait for your turn before I update since Lehah's inadvertently made the timeline a bit wobbly anyway
