Once you get used to how it works it's not that hard. I'm not exactly a math wizard or anything. Essentially when attacking you find out what the lowest number you need to roll is, success leads to dealing your damage dice and calculating that plus any additional things like for Gordok he's able to curse to deal an additional d6 for warlock attack spells, and then you just lay out your results. I find the harder part is setting up where you want to go, getting your line of sight, and calculating how many times your going to need to cast your d20s to hit if you have a spell that affects many enemies and stuff. It can get complicated but it's not hard math or anything. It really helps to open up notepad and type down or copy/paste your enemies' info and your attack shit. Anyway yeah... just takes a little bit of effort to learn.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I'm not completely stupid mate, I get how the rolls work, I just wasn't arsed about knowing exactly what number I needed, let alone picking through all the feats based on relative probability of attack successes.

I installed Character Builder, and tried to create a virtualized version which doesn't need installation. However, it's a bit wonky and has crashed intermittently on me. It's been updated up to November 2009, as per Pang's patch (December patch won't come out till January 2010 it seems). You DO need to pre-install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 beforehand! If any of you want to geek out on it without needing to install it, please refer to the link below.
Now, a question. I'm trying to replicate Cal's character with this. While I get close-enough results, it isn't really identical. Anything I'm doing wrong? The difference is I get 14 Constitution instead of 12, Reflex and Will are lower by 1 point, Bluff is lower by 2, and Endurance higher by 1. Man, I wish I installed this thing earlier. Could've let me min-max and hand-pick to my heart's content beforehand. Character Save File === Nah Shin, you could just probably roll away without knowing what you need. It's not like you can influence the result or anything. If it's a fair fight, and you're using an attack you're good at, I'd guess a roll of 11 and over will hit (basically 50% chance). Maybe 12 or higher if it's a boss. Anyhoo Pang will just say so if it's a miss. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Zerg, there was no need to rebuild Cal from scratch. Here:
http://www.saxypunch.com/missile/cal_amah.dnd4e (December patch came out yesterday, it's just a matter of someone putting it out in a form that works for cracked copies) (Okay actually the language is a little unclear, but if you have an available class called the "Ardent" you're up to date)
Don’t Add Together: If you get temporary hit points and already have some, use the higher value as your temporary hit point total instead of adding the values together. So if someone has 3 temporary HP, and you do something to give them 5, they then have 5. The concept of "different sources" has been removed from the issue of temporary HP entirely.
I'm happy to do the charbuilding/leveling work if the player doesn't want to do it, it literally takes me 90 seconds. I just figure most people want a little more control over their characters but if not it's not an issue. Oh, and yes. It has minotaurs in. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
Cool, well all I need now is a few cases of sudden death in the party and we're golden.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() ![]() |
I'm gonna try throwing the box off a cliff
I think Zerg will chase it FELIPE NO ![]() |
There has to be something really good in that chest if Pang doesn't want me to open it

At this point I'm going to throw myself off the bridge, it's less painful than the alternative.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
So let's get an idea of what we're doing here. Baphomet, the slavers, or back to town?
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Personally, I vote Baphomet. It's why we're here. Afterward maybe we can kill the boss if you guys want.
Also, Zerg, give it a rest. All of us are currently busy with other GFF events, work, and school exams. Your little masturbation session can hold off. Relax. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Hey now. Just progressing it along because you seemed impatient in your post. I'm fully content to continue to outwit the silly box...
Also, another vote for Baphomet to finish the quest. Skills is mostly likely going to object, but depending what we meet there (I am not liking Pang's foreshadowing of a ghostly Gorg), we may need another extended rest to deal with the rest of the duergar. Up to you folks if you want to free the slaves (encounter with Framath, 5-6 duergar scouts, at least 3 spined devils - let's hope Erik was exaggerating) and kill the boss (encounter with Murkelmor, 2 Rundarrs, and 2 scourge thingies). The way the locations were described, the slave pits and Murkelmor's chambers are separated only by a corridor, so activating one might also mean activating the other (like the Level 10 encounter we just had). Under the 5 point system: Baphomet, then leave - 3 points Baphomet, then finish Horned Hold - 2 points Leave - 0 points I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Skills. Hook me up with dat CC.
Also. Is there any class similar to a classic Berzerker? I'm trying to decide if I wanna double-class or just do character stuff. I was speaking idiomatically. It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.
Touching butts had been banned by the evil Headmaster Frond. Suddenly, Tina Belcher appeared in the doorway. She knew what she had to do. She touched Jimmy Jr's butt and changed the world. |

P.S. The new Ardent looks neat. PHB 3 should be fun. FELIPE NO ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
Zerg's been roleplaying harder than anybody
The role he's playing is basically Ed Gein But it's a role he is very dedicated to ![]() Additional Spam: 4E IS RIDICULOUS UPDATE: YOU MAY NOW SUMMON A GELATINOUS CUBE AS A FAMILIAR GROW HIM TO GIANT SIZE AND RIDE HIM What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]()

Can we buy it as a mount?
![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Not normally.
But, since a non-domesticated gelatinous cube will promptly engulf you and melt the flesh from your bones — I am making an exception for you. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
What self-respecting merchant will sell things that will kill his lucrative customers?
![]() But eh, what do we have to do (or be) to summon domesticated familiars? Is it a new class, or is it a feat that is available to martial Rangers? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
It's an arcane thing, actually.

Wheels within wheels, my friend. Wheels within wheels. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I see. I look forward to meeting him after smashing up his Horned Hold home then!
Also, perchance where is this summoning a familiar thing documented? Is it in PHB3? How ya doing, buddy? |
Just a fair heads up — in the interest of speeding up combat in the future, all enemies will be modified from their stock versions as follows:
Monster HP reduced by 1/3 Monster damage increased by 1 die For example, the Duergar Scout normally has 48 HP, and does 1d8+4 damage with his crossbow. Under this new houserule, a Duergar Scout will have 32 HP and deal 2d8+4 damage with his crossbow. This should help to make fights go significantly faster, while preserving (or potentially increasing) the relative lethality of individual combats. Sorry to change such a major dynamic at this late date but the sheer duration of that last fight was a pretty big indicator that something had to give. I guess the game is just on hiatus until January, or... Additional Spam:

Don't keep me in suspense till January.
Let me open that blasted box already .__. BTW can't say I'm a fan about increased monster damage with the prospect of decreased monster HP. It's certain to make battles against hordes (like the Hargast one) fairly lethal to the PCs. And of course if you use minions, then we don't even get the HP trade-off. I don't have any clue of how D&D battles pan out in the Paragon and Epic tiers, but it seems to me that this sort of adjustment is a double-edge sword. At the higher levels, it will really speed up battles to have hundreds of HP lopped off your enemies, while the addition of a damage die will not boost damage that much. The opposite is true at the lower levels. However, I'm fairly sure this will be a popular choice to the bystanders here - I certainly would be gloating if I were one ![]() Most amazing jew boots |
Eh, minions almost always do a flat amount of damage anyway: there's no dice there to double. A level 1 goblin does 1d6+2; a level 1 goblin minion just does 4.
Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Can you make it three dice just for the SHEER AWESOME INTENSE SWEETNESS
Because I'm all for it. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
