The new FW in the PSP Slim will be broken eventually. There's already a custom FW for 3.51. O_o
I checked it out and it works just fine. However, I don't really notice anything different but the little bug in the theme mode where you pick blue as your default background and have pink in the sub menu where you delete, copy files. Overall, no crashes, nada. Resident Evil 2 still doesn't work. Im trying to convert my own Chrono Cross ISO (already did that slps 01222 thing) in the latest PSX2PSP app and it gives me the "Base Error" >.>.

Resident Evil 2 supposedly works as long as you change the GameID on it in popstation to Biohazard.

So Emulation is a go on the new Slim PSP firmware? Awesome, now I need to find and pick up a Slim PSP to sit alongside my DS Lite. Wonder if it comes in Milky White to fit in with my iPod and DS Lite...when is it supposed to be released?

I'm surprised people aren't more hyped about the extra 32MB of RAM to help with loading times. The two main reasons I had shyed away from PSP as a system up until this point was battery life and loading times, and this new PSP addresses both of those. (Although to extend battery life you'll have to use the old-style battery which is bigger, so it will stick out of your PSP a bit.)

I did have one question though: they mentioned something about a new headphone jack. Is this going to be proprietary Sony BS like the headphones plug into some sort of square-shaped port or something, or will we be able to plug in standard headphones?

Anyway, I will probably get the Daxter Entertainment Pak as I want that game anyway, and it's actually not too bad a deal for what you get. I have about 25 PS1 games, and if I could play them at work on my lunchbreak for example I might actually get through some of them.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Also, since it's a 1seg digital TV tuner (ISDB-T broadcasting format), its use is limited to the Japan airwaves. The TV tuner will be released at the same time as the new PSP, and will retail for 6,980 yen (about $57), about the same as a low-end USB PC TV tuner.

Japan is also getting an exclusive, limited-edition model of the new PSP. For the 10th anniversary of the Final Fantasy VII franchise, Square Enix is collaborating with SCE to release a Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII limited edition bundle, which includes a special silver PSP (pictured at top) featuring distinctly colored buttons, logos, and a serial number. The limited edition set also includes the Crisis Core PSP game and a keychain shaped like the sword of the game's hero, Zack.

The limited edition Crisis Core PSP bundle is coming out on the same day as the game, September 13, allowing Japanese FFVII fans to get their hands on the new PSP a week before its official release. The Crisis Core PSP will be limited to a production of 77,777 units and will sell for 25,890 yen (about $212).
I hope we see that bundle here, but the chances are pretty much a big fat glaring "No, bitches."

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure the headphone jack is exactly the same, the MICROPHONE jack is apparantly different however (since it now doubles as a TV-out and has different connections from the original PSP).

Nah, it can stand on its own actually.

Although there are some MGS3 references here and there, it does not mean the whole story revolves around it.

Wait, where's there a microphone jack on the PSP? And what does TV-out have to do with it?

Hum, if the TV-Out uses the Microphone Jack does that mean they will have to create a new Headset now?

Since isn't the Microphone Jack right smack dab next to the Headphone (as illustrated by the little picture on the PSP itself) or are we talking about a usb type thing here?

On the original PSP, the serial port next to the headphone jack had a microphone input in it, which headsets/microphones for the PSP plugged into. From what I understand, the redesigned PSP replaced the serial port with the TV-out port and one of the connections in that slot is for microphone input. So newer headsets or headset adaptors will need to have a different connection type that plugs into the TV-out port, since it's not shaped the same as the serial port on the original PSP.

It's an enterily different issue, though, if they use hardware upgrades to block custom firmware instead of just upgrading the software. Although I'm pretty sure it'll eventually be cracked on the new PSP as well, I'm not sure about it being cracked using ONLY software. It might need some kind of counter hardware, like a chip, attached to it first in order to crack or bypass the original firmware.

If they do, however, find an exploit that makes it possible to add custom firmware using only software cracks, then I just might consider getting on the slimmer train myself.

Just so ya know, you might want to wait for the new MGS: Portable Ops Plus expansion to be released. What exactly this newer addition adds to the game, I don't know , but I'd imagine it's got little additions and improvements just like every single MGS game they re-release after a year.

So are you suggesting that tens of thousands of SOCOM and Killzone Liberation players are going to have to buy a new headset for the slim PSP? Can't they make this new serial port backwards compatible with the old cable remote and headset?

The port itself is completely different, so it won't be backwards compatible. I'm guessing there will be some kind of adaptor for the older headsets (or else they'll just have a new remote dongle that you plug the standard headset into, although that wouldn't work for third party headsets that plugged directly into the serial port). They haven't revealed information on that yet though, so we'll have to wait until we get closer to the release date to see what options will be available.

I suspect that even if there isn't an official Sony headset adaptor, a third party will probably make one for original PSP headsets.

I was speaking idiomatically.

actually I read about it and the + version doesn't include the story mode which is what interest me since I don't think I'll play a lot online.

the + version seem to only add some characters, maps and new online modes.

I recommend playings MGS3. This follows #3's characters and storyline. Unless you played 3, you won't follow much of what's going on (ie: Philosopher's Legacy, etc.)

Plus, it's one superb game =d

You're right, the instruction manual for the slim PSP has been released and it confirms that you can no longer use the old cable remote (and headset) with the new model. However, there is a new cable remote with additional connectors:

You can view/download the manual here.

Hmm, actually, while the connection to the PSP looks different, the actual remote section seems like it could be the same as the remote for the original PSP. So it may be possible to use the official PSP headset with the PSP redesign after all.

Wish they'd release information on the actual remote piece though, they haven't made any mention of it being included in the new packages so it might only be available separately.

So the latest revision of M33 custom firmware lets you choose the official Sony ISO loader (also known as module NP9660) to play UMD dumps from Memory Stick.

Now here's the thing: NP9660 mode has 100% (!) NO-UMD compatibility, meaning you can now play all games from Memory Stick without a UMD inserted. Not only that, but load times have also decreased significantly compared to the "normal" ISO loader.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Does is it now ACTUALLY worth download M33? Is there any chance that I would be able to place the NP9660 prx in my seplugins instead of having to upgrade?

Ripped base.pbp with keys.bin. Base.pbp is now a whooping 1.3 megs extracted. I felt like posting it because I use PSX2PSP still to convert my PSX games. It took a while (even using Google) to search for it.

If you're happy with 3.03 OE-C, stick to it. There's absolutely no reason to update if you don't need the new Kernel and/or features.

Anyways, I wanted to ask if anybody finds the RSS feature of the PSP as amazing as I do. Seriously, I couldn't live without it. Downloading/streaming and listening to podcasts on the go is the best thing since sliced bread.
