My final midterm for the month was today. Give me an hour to go grocery shopping (and put on pants), and use that time to drop on me what you want me to organize first and I'll get on it. PM or this thread. Matters not.

Shin, I'm done with modifications and am reverting Beefi to you. I took the liberty of adding a quick action sheet organized in the Monster manual style.

Looking at Hawk's explanation of initiative rolls in the training thread made me wonder. How does one break ties in initiative rolls? I've been using the initiative bonus as the tiebreaker in the Arena, but was wondering whether monsters just go first in the event of a tie?

Good, because that's the actual rule. And then if the BONUSES are tied, you flip for it.

Do we have any action points yet? I never really understood them.

I really hope that gargoyle doesn't have any damage resitances that will lessen the massive can of whoopass just opened by the enraged cow-man.

Yeah, everybody's got one; you reset to one whenever you sleep and you get an added one for every two encounters (usually fights) you complete without sleeping.

Ok, cool. If I push a large monster in a thin corridor, does he go backwards down the corridor or diagonally up into the wall?

Assuming I understand your question properly: Technically the rules say a large creature can't be forced into a small space, but that's a dumb rule and we'll ignore it if comes up since squeezing huge things into tiny crevices is just good clean fun all round.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well I was basically asking if from where we're all standing at present, using one of my moves that pushes an opponent would result in Slim getting squashed or the gargoyle smashing into the wall but it's good to know I can use them to knock people into cupboards and such too.

Yes, this.

But Slim would get an attack of opportunity out of the deal, so it's not all bad...

Sorry to not use the immediate interrupt in an immediate manner, but between attending the local Rally to Restore Sanity and sleeping due to exhaustion after attending said rally, I wasn't online much yesterday. Fortunately it looks like it won't change much since all attacks since then have been whiffs anyway. Although I guess it might affect which square Slim ends his turn in.

Actually, it helped me out meaning I didn't have to suffer an AoO by charging past the gargoyle to get into position for the golf swing. If I'd missed with the charge I'm not sure Pang would have let me shift through the corner to end up in the right place. It certainly made the manouvering easier at any rate.

Deni I know I said I was waiving the special weapons rules for small characters, but a repeater crossbow is two-handed even if you're Medium-sized.

So kindly refrain from firing it one-handed in future unless you want to take a bitch of an accuracy penalty on it.

Additional Spam:
Also, Cette, you took Feral Might instead of Rune Master as your Hybrid Talent so you don't actually get the Destruction/Protection benefits at all.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

It is? I didn't even realise that.

In that case, can I swap it for the superior crossbow, which is also 2-handed and load minor I would have taken if I'd realised the repeater was a 2 hander?

Seein' as you've never actually hit anything with the repeater, I don't see the harm.

I should remind you, however, that your Dragon FP is not a shotgun and if you want one of those you'll have to pay for it.

I always read it as a sawed off shotgun. And it's close enough to a shotgun for a halfling.

I'm not sure that's actually the case. I went looking around the official forums because I was worried that might be it and I read a clarification somewhere that said that you just lose this.

"The moment you choose the rune, you enter its rune state. You remain in that rune state until you enter another rune state or until the end of the encounter.
Whenever you enter the rune state of the rune of destruction or the rune of protection, you gain an additional benefit, specified below. The benefit lasts while you're in the rune state.
Rune of Destruction: Allies gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls against enemies that are adjacent to you or to any other runepriests who are in this rune state.
Rune of Protection: While adjacent to you, allies gain resist 2 to all damage. The resistance increases to 4 at 11th level and 6 at 21st level."

Otherwise it pretty much cripples ever ability I have from the class. Seeing as every secondary effect I have is an either or rune choice. The wordings a bit unclear though.

PBH3 says this about it in the appendix.

"RUNIC
A runic power channels the magic of runes that are specified in the power.
RUNIC
You use these rules when you use a runic power.
+Choose First: When you are going to use a runic power, you first choose one of the runes in the power and then use the power, applying the chosen rune's effects.
+Rune State: You are then in the rune state associated with the chosen rune until you enter a new rune state or until the end of the encounter. Certain effects rely on you being in a particular rune state."

I think not having rune mastery has essentially made it to where i can derive no benefit from being in any rune state.

PHB3 149 agrees with Pang - choosing Rune Master as a Hybrid Talent will let you activate that class feature (Destruction/Protection). Otherwise, you only get the Runepriest's Runic Artistry and Defiant Word* features. Looks like that's the trade-off for being a flexible Hybrid class.

* Wisdom mod is -1, so does this mean you get a -1 penalty to damage rolls against enemies that miss you? :O

"As a hybrid runepriest, you forgo some battlefield healing and mastery of basic runes in exchange for a second class's features and powers."

You are referring to this line correct? Note that first of all it says I sacrifice mastery as in rune mastery and it's benefits from being in a runic state. The runic riders for rune of destruction or protection are embedded in the attacks themselves though rather than the class powers.

I ended up searching the Rules Q&A forums on the wizards of the coast forums pretty thoroughly on this and it apparently gets asked a lot because of the wording and every instance had them agreeing that you do get to pick your runic rider. Even Half elves who a power it up using dilettante.

I think the idea was that the basics of how runes work was included in there to tell you how one gets into a runic state to begin with but ends up confusing things by making it look all lumped together. Then when you add that Runepriests are the only class built the way they are it removes the ability to use a lot of previous context.

And now I feel dirty for having to argue it this rules lawyery.

I suppose I would if I hadn't gone wrathful hammer instead. You'll note that's clearly stated as an either or. Though way to make it apparent that whatever your interpretation of the rule is it's probably wrong.

Okay, the wording is a little fuzzy but when I look at it in the PHB3 I think you're right Cette. 8 more damage to the Gargoyle, then.

I'm sure I read somewhere that I can use rages twice a day. Does this mean I can enter two rages per day total or use each one twice?

Also, just for future reference as it's unlikely to become relevant here (What with the gargoyle having wings and me running out of easy ways to knock something prone), how off the edge of something does a large monster have to be before it falls in?

Edit: Scratch that first question, it's rage strike I can use twice per day only I can't as you must be raging and it takes up an unused rage to use it. I guess once you level up enough to have more than two rages it becomes more effective.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
