Favorite Fight Sequence ever?
Hey there!
Let's discuss the best fight sequences some of us have ever seen! Only 'La crème de la crème"! One of the best I've seen recently dates to last summer in 2005. It's in a Korean movie called 'OLDBOY'. One of the best and most twisted movies ever done, this probably features one of the best fight sequences to those who've seen it. One man with a hammer against dozens of men with sticks, baseball bats and others, in a long and narrow corridor. All in one shot, no interruption. The music is top-notch. To those who've never heard of it, OLDBOY tells the story of a drunken bussinessmen who is kidnapped and placed in a '2 Stars' hotel room for 15 years with no link to the outside world except television. He is then released from that 'prison' and must find out the reasons for his imprisonement. Let's just say that the ending is quite sad, twisted and disgusting. OLDBOY's Corridor Fight Sequence Sorry for the bad quality. How ya doing, buddy? |
Ong Bak (Fight Club sequence)
Ong Bak is my favorite martial arts film of all time, replacing Fist of Legend and Iron Monkey (which were also my dad's favorites until we saw Tony Jaa on the big screen). It featured a fighting style we'd rarely seen in action flicks and was both creative, exciting, and to an extent, real. Real in the sense that there were no stunt-doubles or wires involved in the making of the film. Throughout the movie I found myself practically leaping from my seat yelling "oh hell naw" whenever Tony did something spectacular. Tom Yum Goong (Chinese Sword) Tom Yum Goong (Capoeira) Two more fight scenes, but not my favorite. This is really for those interested in seeing a clip from his second big movie, Tom Yum Goong. I downloaded the raw a few months ago and found it couldn't live up to Ong Bak, but it had some very pretty fight scenes. Unfortunately, I found CG in one of the final battles (a woman's whip) and some of the fights simply weren't very creative. I really enjoyed these two, though. Most amazing jew boots |
I've seen a lot. Oldboy definitely gets points for originality and a certain level of believability (within unbelievability) but it certainly wasn't the most graceful fight.
The scene that comes to mind for me is in Crouching Tiger. Even if an overplayed movie, it still has my favorite fight scenes. The one I have in mind is when several characters challenge Jade Fox; it's one of the more intricately created battles. Woo-ping Yuen always choreographs awesome shit, though. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Well I thought I voiced my opinion here, but I guess if I were to answer seriously, I would probably pick the major battle scenes from Gladiator, Troy, and/or Braveheart. I've yet to watch OldBoy and Ongbak, but they are currently sitting on my harddrive waiting to be watched.

My favorite is from Wheels on Meals: Jackie Chan vs Benny "The Jet" Urquidez.
Jackie Chan has way too many awesome fight scenes to count. The last fight "Gorgeous" is particularly memorable, as well as the ending of "Police Story," and the bicycle scene in "Project A" among countless others. I was surprised that Jet Li's recent Fearless actually had a few solid fight scenes as well. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]()

The gunfight between Eric Draven & the bunch of gangsters at the end of the movie (The Crow).
Jackie chan when he fights using a portable stair. Can't remember the movie's damn name. Olboy's hammer fight scene is also pretty good. Specially becuse it was done in one shot. But it was mentioned before, so.... What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Ong Bak is awesome. Pure fighting, none of the special effect crap. As for special effects, Kung-Fu Hustle fight scenes are pretty awesome.

My favourites: Chan and kooky guru guy versus the Hatchet Gang from Drunken Master 2. Chan versus kicky guy and punchy guy atop the building roof in Who Am I?. Chan versus ultra-stylised boxer dude at the end of Gorgeous. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Well, that and the amazing 'storey leap' stunt toward the end.
There's nowhere I can't reach.

My favorite fight scene has got to be the final fight scene in Gorgeous, between Jackie Chan & Bradley James Allan. That fight was just, it was a realistic fight, that still had style & it seemed as though it was done in one take, even if it wasn't. Great fight scene. It seemed as though it was a fair fight, unlike the other ways fight scenes tend to go, with the hero all of a sudden gaining the upper hand.

I'd have to say some of the fight sequences in Hero are in my favourites, I couldn't really pick out one of them although the fight on the lake really stood out to me.
I also love the final fight in Snatch where it goes from the boxing ring to underwater, I thought that was really interesting point in the film since it seemed so out of place with the rest of the movie but in a good way of course. How ya doing, buddy? |
I love the final showdown in shaolin soccer. It wasnt a traditional fight with fist but with the soccer.
I also like the fights in Drunken master 2. He just pulled off so many wierd moves and no one could predict it since he was drunk. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Nothing is better than the fight scene in "They Live". Nothing.

Ong Bak club fight was awesome.
Also I loved the fight in the Transporter where he goes back to the house after they blow up his car and he kicks the door down and beats the shit out of them and takes the Mercedes. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I've always enjoyed the gun fight at the beginning of The Wild Bunch, myself. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Crap! I forgot one. The Fight Scene at the end of ROBOCOP 2, between Murphy and Cain! GOD, I love Robocop!
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Jackie Chan movies always have insanely entertaining fight sequences.
But the best ever fight sequences are in Enter The Dragon. ![]() ![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Here are some of my personal favorites:
Best Gun Fight: Trinity and Neo vs. the lobby guards at the Agents' Headquarters from The Matrix. Best Dogfight: Final showdown in Top Gun. DANGERZONE! Best Sword Fight: The defense of the Village from The Seven Samurai; and that includes the sequence as Kambei is plotting out possible entry routes by the bandits. Fucking CLASSIC. Best Large-Scale Fight: Battle of Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King. Best Fist Fight: Anything in Fight Club with Jack doing voiceovers about the banality of existence and how fighting is a reason to live. Best Magic Fight: Gandalf vs. the Balrog that started in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring and finished at the begginning of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Best Bot Fight: T-800 vs. T-1000 in the steel foundy from Terminator 2. Best Virtual Fight: Thadeus vs. Jeu sparring in The Animatrix (Segment: The Final Flight of the Osiris). I know it's been mentioned already, but Oldboy simply can't get enough praise. That hallway fight is just amazing, especially how realistic it all looks. I swear it's like they were hitting each other for real. The music really added to the sheer awesomeness of it all, too.
I also liked pretty much every fight scene in Versus, and the kung fu sequences in Godzilla: Final Wars were cool as well. Basically you can't go wrong when Kitamura is directing. Same thing for Jackie Chan and his many excellent battles. But my personal favorite was in this one movie whose name I can't recall. It's one of Chan's older titles, in which the final fight was between him and this old guy (or a yong guy in a wig, whichever). It was, quite simply, the longest fight I've ever seen in film, going for at least 15 minutes, and Chan's enemy pulled some amazing flips. It got so intense, that Jackie's training partner in the movie stepped in, and the two of them continued to fight the old man, ultimately overpowering him (it's also the one time I've seen someone give Jackie a hand in taking down a single enemy). I wish I could remember the name. I think it had "Blood" somewhere in the title. It was also the only Chan movie I've seen to feature nudity. Bouncy nudity. ![]() What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
As for gun fights, the one near the end of Way of the Gun pretty much tops everything else I've ever seen. It doesn't follow the typical "everyone misses the heroes, heroes take people out in one shot" formula you see in a lot of movies. You see everyone using strategies, and the scene is very realistic and really long. It's great. Equilibrium however deserves mention as well due to extreme style points.
And of course, like everyone else said, the Oldboy fight is excellent. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
