Favorite Fight Sequence?

Here's the game companion to the "Favorite Fight Sequence" thread in Media Centre.

First, keep in mind that this is ONLY for non-interactive fight scenes, basically any fight scenes that you had no control over, from cutscenes, FMV, or so on.

I'll start with an old favorite; Zero vs Sigma in Mega Man X4. I was (and still am) a big fan of anime sequences within games, and this one ran for a good 5 minutes. If you thought Zero was cool before, this sequence completely established him as the ultimate robo-badass as he nearly destroyed a pre-Maverick Sigma. Just plain awesome.

Make sure to mark your spoilers. I'm certain there will be a few posts about a certain fanboy battle in Kingdom Hearts 2....

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Most of the Hollywood esque action scenes from Devil May Cry 3. Sure they were generic, but who cares. IT WAS AWESOME.

My favourite fight sequence? Not so much a fight... the Marquise Elmdor dealing with the head of the traders in Tactics. Pure fucking style. Up and over. Don't fuck with the undead, son. Don't fuck with the undead.

Also, I'd accept what's his name... Meliadoul's brother... offing his commander with the sword. The sword bulging against the cape is just sweet.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Almost the entire gamut of retooled scenes by Ryuhei Kitamura for MGS: The Twin Snakes. Not really a fight so much a one-sided slaughter but the intro to the Ninja was bad-ass.

Don't forget the fight with Snake and Liquid. Very brutal (even if that one punch was borderline DBZ).

Of course, how could I forget the fight with Jin and Margulis (both of them) in Xenosaga Episode II? I might go ahead and say they were the absolute best choreographed fights ever in a game.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Any of the fight scenes from the Zone of the Enders games are fucking awesome.

As for one with people, I like the both the ones from Xenosaga Episode II with Jin and Margulis going at it.

EDIT: Didn't realize you just mentioned it. But yeah, great stuff.

The Boss vs. Snake in MGS3. Basically all the times she whoops Snake's ass in all the cutscenes and when Snake shoots her at the end.

Ninja vs. Solid Snake (first encounter) in MGS Twin Snakes. Also, Ninja fighting REX. "We're not tools of the government..." **SQUASH!** "FOOOOOXX!"

Kratos vs. Super Hydra for the first time in God of War. (the "press O interactive cutscene" part where Kratos finishes it off) **ULTIMATE IMPALE**

All the fights mentioned thus far, are favorites of mine. As well as the RE4 knife fight between Leon and Krauser, man that was intense making sure to hit the button combos at the right times.

Another favorite being the brutal beating Snake got from Volgin in MGS3. So dramatic, and bloody.

Also, the fight between Tenkai and Mitsunari in Shin Onimusha Dawn of Dreams' intro sequence. Really well choreographed.

The Dynasty Warriors Serires has always had some cutscenes that had good fighting in it, most notably the opening to Dynasty Warriors 5. Watching Zhao Yun make an entire army his personal bitch was quite amusing, to say the least.

How about Magna Carta? Watching Calintz do his crazy-looking warping and kicking ass, can't exactly remember where that was, but that was a pretty cool scene too.

Shinobi also had some pretty cool fight scenes.

And who can go wrong with Devil May Cry 3. Has arguably the best overall fight scenes in a game.

That was an absolutely brutal beating more than anything.

I remember watching that scene for the first time, stunned at just how visceral and uncompromising it was.

I think this is one of the first few times we see Snake, well Big Boss, for that matter really show any human emotion. Much of the time he just seems to flinch from the pain of bullets, but this time he really was hurt'n bad.

Basically many of the cutscenes of Sons of Liberty, especially seeing "Oceliquid" steal Metal Gear Ray was amongst my favorite combat scenes.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If I recall correctly, in Ace Combat 5, I really enjoyed the mission of following Pops around on the island. While technically not a "battle scene",
end of the mission:
seeing Swordsman in the F-14 shooting down the trainer jets was pretty neat and seeing each one eject a few seconds prior to their plane turning into scrap.

I Love the intro movie to Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War, it was just so bloody and amazing! Also, the Onimusha 3 intro movie was friggin great! Other favourites of mine include the cinematics from Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, because they were acted out with real actors, and it was sweet! Some other ones are most likely the cinematics from Enter the Matrix, as they were acted out too, and just as good as the movies...

My favourite is when the space station gets wiped out during the intro to Masters of Orion 2. From the first time you watch it you know this is gonna be an epic game...

In Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, deepdive had some great action. Dual keyblade wielding, wall running and all; pared with the music is gets plenty of things right. It still is my favorite KH related FMV.

I haven't seen that, but I just want to remind everyone that this is a "Favorite Fights" thread, not a "Favorite cutscene" or even "Favorite Action Sequence" one. Only list actual fights between two or more characters. For example, I don't think the scene in MGS2 with Ocelot riding Ray counts, since it was more of a destruction scene than an actual fight.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the opening FMV in FFVIII, between Squall and Seifer. That has to be the most watched intro by me. Even if the fight seems a little slow compared to more modern matrix-fests, it still looks incredible, especially with the quick editing and music.

The Snake vs Ninja fight right after fighting Ocelot in Twin Snakes was pretty cool. While I'm on the subject of Twin Snakes, yes, a lot of the redone cutscenes were cool and stylish, but there were some that just made me shake my head in shame. Like Snake jumping on the Hind D's missile and that DBZ punch between Snake and Liquid.

The fight bewteen Chris and Wesker in RE: Code Veronica X, while short, was always another favorite of mine. I was so disappointed when I didn't get to actually fight him though.

The only one that comes to mind is the fight between Ryo and Guizhang in Shenmue. I always thought there was some pretty cool-looking moves used in that. And I thought it looked kind of funny how neither of them really won.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Not my favorite....can't think of it right now, the 'Wesker VS Chris' at the end of CODE: Veronica was pretty cool.

I think he is talking about Deep Dive, which is like a long version of Another Side, Another Story with extra fighting scenes and some other stuff. It's only on the Final Mix of Kingdom Hearts, which only came out in Japan. European and American versions only had Another Side, Another Story.

Deep Dive is a favorite of mine as well.

Devil may cry scenes are some of my favorites. Dante vs vergil was just so damn awsome.
One of my top favorites has to be the scene in Legen of dragoon in the 3rd disc when rose tells a story and it cuts into cg. The battle between the dragoons and dragons was so flashy. I didn't know who was winning but the visuals were amazing.
