Although it is true that it is a bit corny, but I think we can come to expect a little cheese with some of his films, but usually it's just a touch, just enough to make you smile and leave you feeling happy, which I think is great. Aside from the obvious choices, I personally really liked Kiki's delivery service too. Very sweet in a cute way. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Sup GFF faggots, who can't handle shit? |
Ah damn it, only stuff he directed? =X
Ah oh well, I love his works anyway. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Hrm...
I'm more of a Satoshi Kon fan, though I appreciate the work of Miyazaki quite a lot. I've still to catch up on some of his earlier stuff, from the ones I've seen Spirited Away takes the cake. Mononoke is great, but too green-emo in the end. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
and there is nothing you will do about it ![]() It IS my favorite film of his, if only for the fantastic imagery, highly qualitative voice acting, and, this may sound a bit silly, but it gave a unique perspective at the trials of the elderly. Since while the girl was in truth, still young at heart, that spirit carried over even into the mannerism of herself as an elderly fragil woman that showed a deep character strength that was influental for me. I suppose it allowed me to see more of the perspective of my own grandmother and some of the rather odd habits she indulges is. My second choice would be Princess Mononoke, if there had been a multiple choice option. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
My favorite Miyazaki film is Totoro. It is the only Miyazaki film that I want to watch again and again. I guess many people would choose Princess Mononoke but it's too extreme, has too much blood (and unnecessary violence). I didn't like it much. I generally prefer his early films like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Winds or Kiki's Delivery Service.

I loved Princess Mononoke. I thought Spirited Away was alright, it just didn't give me the zing.

Wouldn't the Godfather of anime be Osamu Tezuka? Miyazaki is fairly new when compared to the guy who made Astroboy...

True, he got the ball rolling, and practically invented the anime genre. But I'd say Miyazaki is appropriately described as a god-parent since he took up the role of raising anime beyond what Tezuka had established before his death. Most amazing jew boots |
I don't know. It feels like you're skipping 40 years of material simply because people recognize his name.
Everyone mentions Walt Disney when theres a line of better, more influencial American animators like the Fleichers, Bakshi or Williams. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Don't get me wrong. I agree with you that there are a lot of great influential "intermediate" artists(pardon the term), and its a shame that they don't have the recognition that these other two are getting. But the point remains none of them have as much widespread notoriety as Tezuka and Miyazaki.
The ambiguous label of him as godfather is incidental to the fact that this thread is a Miyazaki circle-jerk, and UR DOIN IT RONG by pissing into it. EDIT: not to mention that this all has already been discussed on the first page. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I agree with the opinion of topic creator, Hayo Miyazaki is the best anime video creator, his anime videos ´Spirit Away´ and ´Kiki Delivery Service´ are best videos I saw
