I Took That Call for 9/11

Rudy Giuliani picks up wife's phone call during NRA speech
Quote:
WASHINGTON - GOP hopeful Rudy Giuliani is apparently more afraid of his own wife than a roomful of pistol-packing voters.

The ex-mayor stopped his speech to the National Rifle Association in mid-sentence yesterday to take a call from his wife, Judith.

Giuliani interrupted a fervent defense of the right to bear arms and announced: "This is my wife calling, I think."

Fishing a cell phone from a pocket, he chirped: "Hello, dear."

"I'm talking to the members of the NRA right now. Would you like to say hello?"

As the audience tittered at the spectacle of the law-and-order candidate cooing with his inamorata, Giuliani wished his spouse safe travel.

"I love you, and I'll give you a call as soon as I'm finished. Okay?"

After listening intently for a few seconds, he replied: "Okay, have a safe trip. Bye-bye. Talk to you later, dear. I love you."

The 22-second interruption wasn't the first time Judith Giuliani has dialed her husband in mid-speech. It happened in June as Giuliani addressed a Hispanic rally in Florida.

Giuliani's third wife has lowered her profile in recent months after unflattering media attention about her two previous marriages and an allegedly extravagant lifestyle. The candidate has stoutly defended his wife and said as President he'd be comfortable having her attend cabinet meetings - but later downplayed any policy role she would play.

Campaign officials said the phone call wasn't staged, adding that Mrs. Giuliani was about to get on a plane to fly from Washington to New York and - like a lot of spouses - called as she was boarding.

"What everyone saw was a spontaneous, candid moment on the campaign trail," said one person close to Giuliani.
Alright, so here's the kicker:

Giuliani also addressed a cell phone call he took from his wife, Judith, last week during his speech to the National Rifle Association, an important appearance because Giuliani clashed with the group when he argued for tougher gun control as mayor of New York.

''And quite honestly, since Sept. 11, most of the time when we get on a plane, we talk to each other and just reaffirm the fact that we love each other,'' he said.

''Sometimes if I'm in the middle of a very, very sensitive meeting, I don't take the call right then; I wait. But I thought it would be kind of nice if I took it at that point, and I'd done that before in engagements, and I didn't realize it would create any kind of controversy,'' he said.
What a lying sack of shit, High School speech teachers wouldn't let you get away with that.

To be honest, I don't doubt his sincerity either.

Wow. Ya know his priorities are straight when he puts off thousands of people to take one incidental little phone call. Makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy inside doesn't it?Finally, a politician who is committed towards not giving two shits about the greater whole. A politician that actually pretends not to give a shit in order to feign honesty and whole heartedness.

What a brilliant move on his part. Good thinking Giulani, dood. BRAVO.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

That phone call looked staged. Just a gut feeling.

Also,

It sounds like he's essentially telling folks to vote for the person who least needs it, even if you agree with someone else more. in other words, "You might not agree with me, but I stand a better chance of being president than that other guy you were thinking of voting for." If you want someone to win, you vote for them. If you really want them to win, you tell other people who you're voting for and why. It's very simple.

This is Giuliani we're talking about; of course the call is staged.

This is also Giuliani trying to battle the common perception amongst the religious right (of which I have the misfortune to interact with too often) that he is a cold-hearted politician devoted solely to his self-aggrandizing political ambitions, and a womanizing hedonist with more mistresses than the king of Siam. James Dobson even went so far as to outright state that he would never support a Giuliani presidency in any way.
I think his campaign has finally realized that he cannot shirk the influence of the religious right, and is playing this game accordingly.

How ya doing, buddy?
