"...so it can't really be considered an official component." Actually it can be simply because it's only manipulation of the original code. It doesn't matter what the intentions were. If it's on the disc and you can do it, it counts. I wouldn't have said this before GTA got hit with the "hot coffee" thing, but if it applies in law then it applies to all other aspects of gaming I say.

Also you can't just disregard something because you simply don't like it or agree with it. Just admit that you F'ed up and that Halo became big for it's multiplayer. If you had agreed from the beginning instead of going in circles with this technical crap no one would care and would have moved on by now, lol.

That's the thing, if people were heavy on story wise, wouldn't people be more interested in RPGs?

Surely you ain't trying to say the only reason Halo's successful is because of multiplayer. Tell that to all the millions of novels (NYTimes best sellers), CDs, action figures, and other paraphernalia that constitutes the Halo Nation.

Did multiplayer play a big part? Sure. Did it make Halo the success it is? Nope.

That's just haterade talkin'.

Why do people always say this when people are mentioning storylines? People want engaging stories which aren't in RPGs but for the genre they're playing. Look at Bioshock (story dedicated) and then look at Shadowrun (which has practically no single player at all).

My guess would be because most RPGs don't have enough action to keep a audience hooked until game's end.

Bioshock and Halo are two examples of high action games with a great storyline.

Multiplayer doesn't make a game either, just use Bioshock as a example.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The thing is I meant story wise in general, I know a great story can be told many ways. What I'm saying is that many people I've talked to looked into RPGs for a great story. Does that mean other genres can't do it as well? No. People have said they liked games like Starcraft, Heavenly Sword, etc. The thing is though, the vast majority of story falls within the RPG genre. Things like how Final Fantasy are, because people interest themselves in the story.

Multiplayer doesn't make a game either, just use Bioshock as a example.
Yes that's true.
But then again, people also play games just for the multiplayer aspect, like Counterstrike, UT, Warhawk.

(And I should have been sleeping a while ago, but I can't fall asleep )

OK... I'm going to blurt out shit here that I honestly had no idea of...

Tonight I played Slayer with my friend Meez and his buddies on Live and I noticed something when we got gravity-hammered-and-plasma-grenaded into beautiful oblivion... You know, on replay and shit:

Spoiler:
What the motherfuck... The Warthog has DASHBOARD LIGHTS?!?!?!?!?!?!

We officially have utmost detail.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I thought the Warthog always had dashboard lights in Halo 2 and certainly 3. I saw them in Red Vs Blue series when they started using the Halo 2 engine. Its natural for Halo 3 to have them.

Thanks to RVB, I didnt even have to play Halo 2 to know that. :P

And awesome Avatar and sig, Encephalon! Did you made it?

Well shit... Not ALL OF US, watched Red Vs. Blue and probably didn't know that. To me this just stuck out as one of those asinine details that make a game THAT much more connected to the player and this just happened to be one of them.

Oddly enough, one of the previews for Halo 3 featured some of the production staff talking about Forge and Theater mode... and one of them was waxing lyrical over Warthog dashboard lights >_>

Yeah, me and my mate were playing last night and we found that. I was pissing myself laughing. My mate, however, was somewhat confused by my amusement.

Tell me what you make of this claim.

They mention Halo 3 isn't natively 720p, but 640p and then upscaled. I don't even know what the fuck 640p is but okay.

Did you know it's different for each difficulty?

Oh man where do you find it? =D
At the beginning of 2nd level, if you go down the tunnel the opposite way you are supposed to when the game starts, and after you encounter the first group of enemies, you'll see a marine banging on the armory door, asking for ammo, and the guy inside asks for the password. It's a different conversation for each difficulty.

I'll have to go look for him again when/if I play it on higher difficulty (I suck and probably need co-op help in order to do that).

The 640p claim is bullshit. It's the result of some shitty sets receiving screen tearing with the VGA connection.

I like how people are going out of they're way to try and slam this game, but then realize there isn't much to slam...so they're fucked.

Game is 720p, just like every other 360 game.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Maybe so, but when I bought HL1 back in '98, there was no Counter-Strike. I didn't buy the game for multiplayer cause my PC back then was a pile of shit.

UT is a given cause it's built around the deathmatch aspect, much like Q3.

Warhawk was a game that had single player, but was scraped for whatever reason, and I remember listening to a 1up yours podcast a while back and they were talking about how great it looked, and how the SP looked to be really fun.

I look forward to SP games like the upcoming HL2:Ep 2 and Portal. They both look very fun, and worth the price point on steam; but that being said, I also have had a blast playing the TF2 Beta.

To conclude, Multiplayer might sell some people, but not everyone.

How ya doing, buddy?

Umm, no, not every game runs natively in 720p. This was proven long ago with the PGR3 issue. The "pixel counting" method isn't the most reliable method to use (although if it was being done wrong, why aren't ALL other Xbox 360 games exhibiting this problem on that TV?), but I see no reason to doubt that it could be true since several Xbox 360 games use that method for gaining performance. We'll see what Bungie says about it.

And do you have to make EVERY criticism of the game sound like it's some huge conspiracy to downplay it? Especially when your only argument against a mathematically calculated assessment is "no that's bullshit, the game is perfect".
For crying out loud, who cares if the resolution is upscaled or not? If a game is fun, you play it. If it isn't fun, then go play something else. Seriously, upscaling is hardly a cardinal sin, especially considering that HDTV isn't even a standard format yet. Consider the number of graphical travesties that have been released on the Wii simply because developers don't feel any sort of obligation to even use the system for what little it is capable of. At least enough work went into Halo 3 to make it as good as it is. If I am to believe fan reports, it is the worthy sequel to the first game. I'll be playing it for the first time either tomorrow night or Sunday so I'll have more of an opinion then.

Anyway, I digress. Back to the topic of graphic whores. I don't say ZOMG Prime 3 Corruption sux, it only displays 480p widescreen. I play the game because it is fun. I remember back when 16 colours displayed simultaneously was a big deal and I now know people who won't even touch a NES because it is far too dated for their tastes. When gaming becomes more about presentation than play control, then there is a big problem.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
