Wii Zapper + Zelda Crossbow Training

Hey guys, how cool is the Wii Zapper gonna be? Man, I can't wait to play Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on this...

Wait, what?
IGN: Zelda Crossbow Game with Wii Zapper

No screens as yet, but for the lazy who can't be bothered clicking the Link (OMG pun), the Wii Zapper is going to come out in the Americas on Nov 19th with the price of $19.99. This includes the Wii Zapper AND a light-gun style Zelda game.

As from the Nintendo Press Email:
REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 10, 2007 - Nintendo announced today that the Wii Zapper™ interface for the hit Wii™ home video game system will come packed with Link’s Crossbow Training™. The software is based on the hugely popular Legend of Zelda® series and provides a perfect demonstration of the way the Wii Zapper could be used in other games. The Wii Zapper casing houses both the motion-sensitive Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers in a single unit for precision targeting. It goes on sale Nov. 19 at an MSRP of just $19.99.

“The Wii Zapper combines our remarkable controllers into one housing with a classic style reminiscent of arcade-style games,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Both veteran and first-time players will find it brings a whole new dimension to games where targeting is key and provides even more exciting game-play experiences.”

Link’s Crossbow Training drops players into a world in the style of The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess. Players assume the identity of hero Link, who progresses through a series of tests to perfect his crossbow marksmanship. Start with stationary bull’s-eyes and graduate to moving targets before defending Link against all kinds of enemies.

Third-party publishers have lined up to support the Wii Zapper. EA’s Medal of Honor Heroes™ 2 lets players take World War II into their hands with the Wii Zapper. The game features an all-new Wii-exclusive Arcade Mode that offers accessibility to gamers of all skill levels, a full single-player campaign and support for up to 32 players in multiplayer. Capcom’s Resident Evil®: The Umbrella Chronicles reveals the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3, as well as new never-before-seen locations like Umbrella’s stronghold. One or two players use the Wii Zapper to take aim against a horde of zombies in first-person perspective. SEGA’s Ghost Squad™ lets players replicate the arcade light-gun experience at home with the Wii Zapper.

Remember that Wii features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other Wii features, visit Wii.com.
I'm gobsmacked at the fact that Nintendo is about to start "milking" one of their most respected franchises ever. Is that fair to say or am I completely wrong?

Discuss or vent your spleen (in a constructive and well behaved manner as always) .

Well if people are dumb enough to buy this kind junk then of course Nintendo is going to keep on making it. They're 100% in the business for the money, which isn't really wrong, it's just that this isn't much of a surprise from Nintendo.

On another note I AM looking forward to using the Zapper with RE:UC, probably the only Wii attachment I'll ever own too. I know what I just said in my last paragrapg, however of the bunch of add-ons already, the Zapper seems to be the first useful one yet.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The Zapper was $20 to begin with, why complain?

Also, released a year after Twilight Princess and the console, how cute.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I wouldn't call this "milking" at all. The Wii Zapper was already going to cost $20, so a free Zelda mini-game is a pretty nifty surprise. It's not like they're releasing a seperate Zelda arrow game at the same time as the Wii Zapper to encourage you to buy both.

Zelda? Nobody likes Zelda, that's why it failed and Nintendo went bankrupt. Where's Yoshi's Safari 2: THE REVENGE OF YOSHI'S SAFARI (??) Or Hogan's Alley 2: HOGAN'S NEWER, SLIGHTLY BETTER ALLEY (??) Or Duck Hunt 2: Neo-cyber-X Duck Hunter Zero 2037 FIFTEEN CAMELS (??) Phoenix Games should jump on board, then we'd finally get a sequel to Shoot 7 Games, Shoot 8 Games. Nintendo Australia will probably charge eighty thousand dollars for this bundle, and I can't see myself spending eighty thousand dollars on a training game not approved by Dr. Kawashima's hilarious floating noggin.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Note the subtle sarcasm in my first line . SO SUBTLE IT WORKS!!!

Well, it's gonna seem weird playing a crossbow game with a gun. Since it's using the Twilight Princess engine exclusively for the Wii, I hope they spice up the graphics ala Smash Bros Brawl Zelda stage.

Hahahaha, I just looked up the Wii Zapper on Google.

Seriously, is anyone going to pay $20 for a bit of plastic that holds the controllers together? I thought one of the great features of the Wii was supposed to be that the two parts of the controller were individually motion sensitive? If they're connected like that, surely you lose a lot of functionality. Nintendo are essentially reducing the amount of control you have, thereby having an excuse to make even simpler games and they're charging people for the pleasure.

I don't think they could confirm their status as the gimicy toy console any better if they tried at this point.

And sometimes about a $100 on a rare Xbox 360 faceplate. I think wii fans will buy the peripheral regardless.

Is the Wii Zapper even comparable to a "real" light gun? I mean, the remote controller isn't even capable of being used as a precise aiming device, so isn't the whole concept of the "Wii Zapper" flawed from the start?

I think they might be able to pull off somewhat decent aiming, but the complex algorithm required for GunCon-like precision would probably require the second Gamecube to be unlocked, and we all know that Nintendo will never give away the secret key for this.

EDIT: Ohshi, this is a first party title. GunCon-precision in Link's Crossbow Braining Age Training Tame your Braining in Seconds a Dairy confirmed.

You guys do know that there are accelerometers in both the nunchuk and the remote, right? When tethered together firmly in place by a piece of plastic that allows for a constant two points of a constant distance developers can rely on that to do new and interesting things concerning positioning, movement, and gesture. BUT LOL 20 DOLLA, ACER, IT'S DAMB HOO GONNA BUY DAT. Yeah, why don't you wait and actually try it out. Oh and who knows, Link's Shotgun Madness might even turn out to be half decent. =/

Is that really going to be of use to any developer? That just means they can't allow for independent motion of the two inputs. All it's doing is limiting the movement of 2 devices...seems like a step BACKWARDS from what the Wii should allow for.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
Old Sep 11, 2007, 06:00 PM #15 of 33
Who says every game needs movement of two independent devices? Who says every shooter will need the Wii Zapper? It's an option for developers to take and if they take it in the right way some very interesting things could happen.

How ya doing, buddy?

So... you're controlling a crossbow... with a gun handle.

That makes no fucking sense at all. It's like announcing a steering wheel peripheral, and the first game that comes out that uses it? A scuba-diving sim.

I like how your analogy is the dumbest thing I have read on the entire forums.

What do you do with a gun? Aim it around to shoot things. What do you do with a crossbow? Aim it around to shoot things. It makes sense.

This totally looks like the type of crossbow Link would be using, yeah.

Too bad the Zapper won't allow for cool crossbow action like manual reloading and drawing with separate controllers.

I'd say the zapper is more for games that use actual guns. I'll be getting this purely for Umbrella Chronicles. Although in Gears, the Torque Bow was essentially a crossbow with a pistol grip.

No it doesn't, they're handled in two completely different ways. A bow you need two hands to handle and a gun you just need one. It makes no sense at all why they didn't just make a game where you use a gun peripheral, for, you know, actually shooting stuff with a gun.

Have you actually seen the Wii Zapper? It is made to be held with two hands, unlike previous light guns. Don't even use that argument. The Wii Zapper is better suited to match the way that you would a crossbow then to how you would hold a revolver.

Also, what about the rifle used in Ghost Squad? Is that not also meant to be held with two hands and to be butted up to your shoulder, much the way that a crossbow is?

Please, actually think before you talk next time because what you say doesn't make any sense.

The fact that it is auto reload is does not matter. The basic design and the way that it is used is exactly the same whether or not you have to reload it by hand.
