Smash Bros. Brawl Music Team an All-Star Cast, Too
We already know about Uematsu composing the main theme of the new Super Smash Bros. game, but look at who else is going to be contributing to the soundtrack:
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/music01.html Jam it back in, in the dark. |
As I mentioned in the main Smash Brawl thread a couple forums up: I CAME.
Some of the stuff on there is really left field too. Like Streets of Rage or Digital Pinball. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
For some reason, I want to hear alot from Yuzo Koshiro than any other composer there. Unfortunately as it was mentioned on the other thread, each musician might just get a track. A good example would be FFX. They had a group of elite musicians and pulled some tracks off together. If SSMBB is like that, I won't mind.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
DAMN! That is the ultimate dream team of composers right there. I know Nintendo has been flaky the last several years with their soundtrack releases, but if they don't release an album for this, someone's going to pay!
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
If all they are going to do is to arrange some famous nintendo songs, I won't be interested at all.
I was speaking idiomatically. |

HELL YES.
When I first skimmed the list, I almost half-expected to see all Nintendo composers on there, even people who only worked with one game (ie Norio Hanzawa for Wario World, Kozue Ishikawa for Wario Land 3, Akita Nakatsuka for LoZ 2, etc.), but I admit the lineup is awesome enough as it is. Nintendo BETTER release a soundtrack for this ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Well, I'm hoping at least for a decent Metroid arrange.
To tell you the truth, I did not enjoy Melee's music. They made most of the music sound way to dramatic. And the instrumentation = bleh. The Metroid arranges also were pretty bad IMHO. I enjoyed the original SSB soundtrack much more. If Brawl's soundtrack is more akin to the first SSB, then I certainly will be happy. I'm happy to see a lot of my favorites on that list, but too bad no Shinji Hosoe nor NON. ![]() FELIPE NO |
Wow, that's quite a list. They must have quite a music budget; everybody but Basicscape is there and accounted for.
Seriously, though--how many tracks will each composer write? One? Two? It doesn't seem like there's enough room in the game for that much music--how many tracks to these Smash Brothers dealies usually contain? While I am impressed, and I'll soon have some new tracks by my favorite composers to hunt down, I sort of wish they'd stuck with one or two composers (Mitsuda and Shimomura of course ![]() What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
There's no SSH in sight. Nintendo is disappointing me.

Someone ripped the Menu 1 theme off the site.
http://files.filefront.com//;7573434;/ Composed by Hirokazu Ando, arranged by Motoi Sakuraba. I haven't listened to this yet, but it must be awesome according to the reviews I've heard so far. There was only one other composer needed to make this announcement "News of the Year", but unfortunately Follin HAD to retire from the VGM industry. ![]() There's nowhere I can't reach. |
No Sakimoto or Hamauzu.

Hey, not all of us are wild about seeing Sakuraba on the list, either. I'd rather have Hamauzu than him. At least his arrangement of Menu 1 isn't too bad, although he's once again unable to figure out how to end a song.
Most likely, each composer is getting one or two songs apiece, but it's a lovely nerd fantasy to imagine that they've got so many composers on board that they're going to have multiple alternate tracks for each level, or maybe one for each character. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I'm looking forward to this. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

also, I like turtles |
Another issue with having so many, so many composers, is that the game'll probably sound like it was written by thirty-six people: that is, with a whole bunch of different styles all over the place. Could end up giving each of the stages their own distinct flavor, and also could end up making it seem like Sakurai just cherry-picked a bunch of tracks he liked without regard to consistency.
Another issue is that just because so many good people are working on it doesn't mean that the music will actually be any good. ![]()

As some people have already noted, I'm guessing the guest composers here will handle a couple of arrangements each, with the bulk of any actual composing effort handled by Shogo Sakai (with some help from newcomer Kentaro Ishizaka). That seems like the most likely scenario to me. And what an awesome one it's looking to be! =o
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Considering there's no Mac USF player, I have no idea!

Don't forget, in all likelihood all the arranged music will be performed by the same performers/MIDI so at the very least it'll sound similar, even if the composing styles are completely different.
But really, this is Smash Brothers we're talking about here, a game that takes just about every style of character and puts them into one game (even Solid Snake!). It would almost be silly for them not to make every piece of music sound really different. Additional Spam: they also need to get sakuraba the hell out of there, and put in a good composer (I second sakimoto!) There's nowhere I can't reach.

As awesome as this list is.... the lack of Hosoe, Saso, Yack, Tsukumo, etc... makes me sad
![]() Tho I'm still VERY surprised that Hayama got picked. I'll be looking foward to hearing his track(s). This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

A lot of those names, I'm really looking forward to hear what they put together. Noriyuki Iwadare, Yuzo Koshiro, Michiko Naruke, Yasunori Mitsuda, Arata Iiyoshi. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
39 Actual Stage Songs, Intro Song, All-Star Intro Song, 2 Menu Themes, Victory Themes (Being Seperate), and then the music for mini-games like Multi-Man Melee & Tournaments. There's also the Trophies and then Stage Clear mini-songs. Finally at the end small songs, almost sound effects: Starman, Hammer, Warning Siren, and then the Ending Song. So you're looking at least a good 40-45 actual "Songs" as opposed to just seperating the themes of the characters & other miscellaneous pieces. Super Smash Bros Melee Soundtrack <-- The OST for Download/Comparison. FELIPE NO ![]() |
Dark Nation, I'm talking about the original Super Smash Bros. I don't know what you're talking about, because there is no Melee soundtrack.
How ya doing, buddy? |
And as for the original, There are indeed 28 Tracks, plus a few bonus "Club Mixes" of 4 of the songs, and a Sound Effect Collection. I'll upload that if you'd like. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
