Calling Ridge Racer or Full Auto 2 SPORTS games is dumb, they aren't ACTUAL SPORTS. It's like calling Mario Kart a sports game. Real racers aka real sports at least require use of the brake button and represent something people do in real life.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Yeah, you're right, Dead Rising was pretty good. Gears of War, Mass Effect and BioShock are the only other ones coming out that could be called next-gen on the 360 too. Which is pretty sad, a next-gen system should have next-gen games, not this half assed porting junk.

You've got to admit, Slayer, that Genji 2 does not deserve to be put in a list of must-have games on PS3, especially alongside the others you listed.
As for whether or not those games are amazing, we'll really have to see. The trailer for Motorstorm makes the game look really fun and chaotic, but after seeing the actual gameplay, it just looks like ATV Offroad Fury HD to me. Most amazing jew boots |
I glanced over the last few pages and didn't see anything. I was just wondering if there was any word on the number of units that Sony is shipping by the end of the year. Anything other than just rumors?
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Are they supposed to ship a second shipment before xmas?

well they said 400 00 unit in for the launch and another 1.5m or something by the end of the year so basicly about 1m units for xmas (I hope they will be able to do it :\)

Hey, if sony can pull off 1.5m units before the end of the year then that's about half as many 360s that have sold to date. Obviously the trick at the beginning of every gen is to get as many systems into people's homes during the launch window because people want it simply because it's new. Therefore if Sony can catch up half way in a month and a half to the 360 then it'll still have a really good chance of catching up or beating the 360 in sales by the end of '07.

Ok I was referring to the PS3 UK release which is now middle of 2007. Maybe it doesnt apply as much to the americans then as the PS3 will be out before xmas there from what I understand. My apologies there.
Oh and I class most racing games as sports sims, because 99% of racing games are generically the same and quite boring after the initial playing. I was, however mis informed of some of the release titles, I was told NBA, a rugby game, 4 football games and some driving games were the only things on the list, looking at it now I notice that I was given incorrect info. Sorry. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
No prob man, it's bound to happen. Especially since Sony hasn't really confirmed a launch title list yet so speculation always comes in to place where there's a lack of facts (not that it was your speculation, but your source's).
Finally Sony has screwed up every launch to date. So technically for Sony this is probably going to be their best launch yet. Usually system launches don't mean a whole lot other then getting the word out that the product is now out on market. It's the games and sales that follow over the next five years that decide essentuall "wins". But really as long as you have a or many systems & games and are having fun we're all winners. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Oh man this is great, $200 CANADIAN DEPOSIT REQUIRED!

Oh, that's HARSH. I'll have to ask Sherry about that when I go in today. Campers be damned.
I wonder how the EBs will handle this at launch day. For the 360's launch, the EB I go to now had set up 10 minute appointments for all the people who preordered. You'd go in and get your unit and then leave. One person in the store at a time. Prevented a lot of shit from happening, that's for sure. Double Post:

I was talking about the use of next-gen hardware at that point of time. You can't just pick a sentence and totally take it out of context. I never said that the games on the PS3 were better as a game, obviously that would be impossible for me to say. I was talking about graphics and technology behind the games and how the 360 was barely better then the curent gen from THAT standpoint.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
It's still a baseless argument, since many of the 360 games we're playing now, are things we're actually PLAYING. You go back and look at the trailers for things like Full Auto and many other 360 titles, you'll see that they don't look ANYTHING like they are made out to be. I'm willing to bet good money that many titles on your list there aren't going to be as visually mindblowing as you're making them out to be.
Things like Full Auto 2, for example. The screens look like a slightly spiffed up version of the first game. But the first game looked NOTHING like the preliminary screens we got for it. It didn't play like we were all going to assume it did either. I'm willing to bet the same situation is going to happen for most of the early PS3 games. How ya doing, buddy? |

Yeah but that doesn't include the HD present that really sets GTHD apart from regular old GT. Only PS3 and Blu Ray can provide this.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Lol, Oblivion. Will the Cell processor help with the excruciating boredom?
I was speaking idiomatically. |
ack. the PS3 oblivion look far worse then the 360 one.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
-Call of Duty 2 -Oblivion -Dead Rising -Ninety-Nine Nights -Fight Night Round 3 There's more titles you see but why'd I choose this in particular? THEY ARE IN YOUR PLAYED LIST. Have you ever layed down a line of code in your life? How much do you think developers got a XB360 Dev kit versus how much time they have to produce a game, test a game, certify a game, and ship it? If you were making a PS2/Xbox game it and it took you 1/5th the time to bring it to the XB360, would you do it? More importantly, what choice do you have? Also, so because of NBA2K5, the Xbox360 is not a next-gen system based on your criteria? Somehow the hardware magicically changes itself in November to adapt to Gears of War? It's ALL software utilization, the limit is yet to be reached for the 360. Until someone is actually PLAYING something from the PS3, it's all theory from Sony's camp.

Okay guys, back from the first day of the DigitalLife convention. There were only 2 playable PS3s, but they were both on 46" XBR3s. Resistance was running a 720p feed, even though they've said it's a 1080p game (and running on a 1080p set).
Got to play it a few times since there were very short lines and the folks that were there were very easy to give up the controller. I didn't know why at first, but it became all too clear: This game is Hard. Nathan's health bar disappears faster than you can say Chimera. Their duck and gun tactics, high endurance mobby nature make taking them on difficult. Graphically, it looks very good, and the physics are nice as well. Good, realistic ragdolling and death animations (they die and crumple in semi-realistic fashion). What I didn't like was they didn't register knockback at all until you killed them. This is strange because in the Ratchet and Spyro titles, all the enemies had some measure of response to attacks. But even with the shotgun, nada here. NBA '07 was running off of one of Sony's Ruby projectors and looked really good. Got an uncanny valley feel when they zoomed in on some Bizzaro-Kobe's face drenched in sweat. I had several friends with me who tried the game and mentioned it also seemed like the AI was cranked to the max. In that area, Sony had a KDS50A2000 running BR movies, another one running PS3 Gameplay movies (get to that in a minute), and the others were displaying BR propaganda. High point of the Sony area/booth? Some fanboy utterly trashing Sony, the employees, their mothers, policies, the works. It was so embarassing the attendant lady went off elsewhere until he was gone. Oh, right, game trailers. These ran on that 1080p SXRD, and it showed: LAIR - Looked like utter shit. The "water simulations" Factor-5 lauds everytime an interview comes around looks terrible. It's little more than crumpled paper with what looks like baked lighting. Heavenly Sword: Gorgeous, extreme detail on her blades, hair, dress, face, etc. Even the enemies had a surprising amount of detail to them. The bad? The animation was kind of stiff, there was a moderate amount of clipping and the camera may be a bit too close for some. Hopefully she gets more moves/weapons besides her blades and cannon, because the fighting may get a bit repetitive. Genji: Looking much better than before, but the textures were blurry for a game with such close view of the action. The art helps here tremendously, the slight bloom present in the environment and the vibrant colors really lent themselves well to the game. Not my cup of tea, but some may want to know. Warhawk - Water is great, sky/clouds are great, land is laziness embodied. It's even more grating on the eyes to go from such an attractive sea and sky to smeared textures over simple rock-forms. The ship had a surprising amount of detail. From it's exhausts to the wear and tear, it all looked well done. The capital/battle ships were alright, too. The smaller fighters? Not so much, and the explosion effects are literally PS1-level. Ace Combat 05, for example, has the missle hit, fire and smoke trail down. Why this team couldn't do the same beats me. The multi-missle shot was underwhelming, looked like it lacked force, though this may be because they were laser weapons. Motorstorm - 2nd worst of the bunch. Blurry textures on everything, aliasing (it was distracting and surprising since Resistance, Genji, Warhawk and NBA had so little of it) and clipping amongst the cars/walls/grass/ground. I also whored out FFXII for like 3 hours, played Elebits and Madden for Wii along with Quake LAN (2/3rd place consistently). All in all, a great day. FFXII is the fun, so all you wary folks can rest at ease about it. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even. |
