This song reminds me of the time I hit you in the face.

Basically, what songs, when you hear them, are associated in your mind with certain events in your past?

Examples:

Whenever I hear Twisted by Keith Sweat, extremely rarely nowadays, I remember the first girl I ever kissed because that song was on on the car radio.

Mariah Carey`s Sweet Fantasy Baby, or whatever the fuck it was called, reminds me of riding the bus in the 9th grade because that`s where I first heard it... Than, and the 500 times after that.

Avril Lavigne´s Complicated always makes me think of Dala, my ex, walking through the Las Vegas Downtown area to visit me in jail 2002 and 2003. Not really my memory, since I wasn`t with her on her walk, but during the visit she always told me about this song that depressed her.

Outside by Staind reminds me of Dala... She dedicated it to me a few months after we met. I was pretty shitty towards her at the time.

Slow Motion by I think Usher... Fucking retarded song but it`s the first song I heard when I first went into prison and was meeting people my first day... It stuck.

Ha, and every time I hear that ridiculous ALL YOUR BASE theme I think of my first week in Gamingforce, since it was huge back then.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Man, the shitty thing is is I know what you're talking about, but I can NEVER remember ANY of the names of all those songs that were playing during all my memories. Sometimes I'll hear the song randomly, and I'll go into memory mode, but it doesn't last long, and I never get the names of the songs. =/

"Karma Police" by Radiohead reminds me of Terranigma, since I listened to a lot of Radiohead when playing that game. And it seems to fit somehow.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It doesn`t necessarily have to be a time you heard it connected to an event... It can just remind you of something. A strong connection.

The main one would be Roulette with System of a Down which I relate to the first girl I really fell for. Ahh memories.

For the longest time I would associate the album Forever Changes with World War I, because I listened to the album non-stop while I was reading All Quiet On the Western Front. That's no longer the case, but it's still like that with Brian Eno's Ambient: Music For Airports and Native Son. :P

"Every Breath You Take" reminds me of orange sunsets in Maine. In 1984, that song was pretty much the most important thing ever written, and every radio station was airing it incessantly.

As my family and I drove around the Maine scenery, we'd listen to whichever radio stations would come in strongly. Traditionally, these stations tend to be Lite Rock and Top 40, which were the bread and butter of The Police during the 80s.

So, we were driving back to my grandparent's house after a trip to a couple beaches and a stop at the Maine Mall (Maine has, like, one mall that's worth speaking of, so they call it "The Maine Mall") where my Dad bought me a handheld game to keep me quiet. I was 8, so I could still be easily bought off.

I recall looking up from my LCD Space Invaders game to notice that the July sun was setting to our left as we drove along the highway. It cast a peculiar, deep orange glow upon everything, but was still quite entrancing. At that moment, "Every Breath You Take" came on the radio and I spent the entirity of the song enjoying the sunset.

Also, "Digital Love", by Daft Punk, reminds me of the time my girlfriend and I got into our first big argument over something rather silly. We'd only been seeing each other for around a month, at the time, and I was thoroughly crushed that she'd lash out at me over what we both knew was an honest mistake.

I'd just bought the new Daft Punk album and had become hooked on "Digital Love" for a little while. I kept listening to it to relax me, but my mind remained focused upon my worries that she'd dump me over such a trivial nuisance.

Later that night, she called me to apologize. She immediately regretted telling me off when she closed down AIM earlier that day. But she had classes to attend and I had to work, so she had to carry around the guilt the whole time. We made up and have only had one other argument since, which was also over something super stupid.

But "Digital Love" will always remind me of that day.

Odd but songs like Fly for a White Guy, Smash Pumpkin song used in Shrek 1, Britney Spear's Hit Me Baby One More Time remind me of the week when my dad had cancer and inevitably died. =S

Never liked those singers after that. Still wouldn't have anywasys, they're horrible now.

"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol reminds me of Prom from this last year. It wasn't played at the dance, but I heard it for the first time the next day and I downloaded it and listened to it on repeat for that whole week.

My cousins and I used to sing "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette all the time at their house right after it came out, so it reminds me of being a little kid.

Sakura Saku - Megumi Hayashibara, Brings recollections of my early days in reefer smoking.
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica, Reminds me of my uncle who shot himself in the head, this was his favorite.
Agent Orange - Cage, My struggles with my other personality.
Another Night - Real McCoy, My mother's mix of cruelty and kindness towards me as a kid.

Man in a Box by Alice in chains always reminds me of New York, or rather getting in there. I got off the plane after a six hour flight and was just dying, also the heat was insane (it was July, absolutely boiling).

So I get in my uncles pickup and he gives me run of the radio, its the first song I turn on and I couldn't believe it. We NEVER get good or even marginally good music where i'm from, so it was a damn treat! I've always thought the chorus of the song always had a seriously uplifting sound to it, and it fixed me right up, I was right as rain afterwards, pretty much set up the whole trip for me perfectly

Glasgow mega-snake by Mogwai reminds me of a brief trip to Glasgow with a work colleague. It was just a business trip itself, but it was so enjoyable because of her.

Sweet child of mine by Guns n’ Roses reminds me of every shit party my friends have ever thrown. They just can’t see the night out without playing it, and it makes me sick.

Both seem minor in importance.

That song Broken by Seether and that chick from Evanescence reminds me of a girl I dated a couple years ago. Back when we were dating, it'd make me smile, but nowadays it makes me shake my head in disgust.

Ha, for some reason the chick from Evanescence (Amy Lee or something) reminds me of Sword Serenity.

In Da Club by 50 Cent always reminds me of my brother. He would always blast the damned thing in the car December 03 and January 04... Before heading off to prison. In Da Pen.

Reel Big Fish's "Sell Out" will probably always remind me of my younger school years where all I had to worry about was going to school, doing homework and playing FIFA 2000. Yeah, I loved that game. I probably still do, if only for the nostalgia factor.

There are others, but I can't really seem to recall.

"Getting Better" by The Beatles will probably always remind of that horrid day when I was a terrible hurry to get to the airport. Every now and then this song's chorus kept popping up in my head. I eventually caught my flight but in a pretty stressed out state.

Ayreon's "Day Six: Childhood" always reminds me of the few years before I was shut away in boarding school. I never saw much of my father when I was a kid, and this pretty much reflects that.

"Miseducation" by Frameshift reminds me of summer 2005. Might be because I was listening to it near constantly, but it was also because I had an assholish, angry, rage-fuelled English teacher for the last few weeks of term.

"Far Beyond Metal" by Strapping Young Lad will probably always be an iconic song for this summer for me - Blasting it in a furnace-like office, boiling in my flesh. Wonderful.

"A Change of Seasons" by Dream Theater brings back memories of February 2005 - HUGE unexpected snowstorm, and I'd have it playing near constantly while staring out the window. That term rocked.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Back when I was a PSO addict, I would listen to music all day while playing it. These albums still remind me of the good ol' DC PSO days before it became a ghetto:

Gorillaz - s/t
Blink-182 - Take Off Your Pants And Jacket
Default - The Fallout
Staind - Break The Cycle (I actually bought this and PSO on the same day at the mall)
The Strokes - Is This It
Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
D12 - Devil's Night (I'm out of the rap phase now so I don't listen to this anymore)

There's lots of songs I can't listen to because they remind me of my ex. So we'll skip those, okay?

Actually lots of songs remind me of different parts of my life.

*While studying for some English literature exams I listened to the FFIV Celtic Moon album a lot, it made studying more enjoyable and serene.

*ELO's A New World Record and Discovery, and Queen's A Night At The Opera, A Day At The Races and News Of The World remind me of Form 3, when I was introduced for the first time to rock and roll.

*And the soundtrack for The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall for me wasn't the one included in the game, but Freddie Mercury's Mr Bad Guy for the simple reason that I listened to it a lot while playing the game.

*Vangelis' Theme from Missing reminds me of when I was a toddler, because when I was very young there was an ad on Italian TV about a mother and child which used that tune.

I could go on, but I'll stop here, since I doubt anybody's interested.

Whenever I hear Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin I always think of the ice levels on Jak and Daxter because I was playing the game repeatedly whilst my brother was learning the song.

Mercy Me by Alkaline Trio reminds me of the second to last time I was trying to give up smoking >.< My best friend put it on while we were ripping the last two cigs in the pack to shreds. Damn what a waste ;__;

Newborn by Muse always makes me think about the first few months I spent with my ex; he was the one who introduced me properly to their music.

Anything off the Abbey Road LP by the Beatles reminds me of my childhood, as does Queen; my parents always had their songs playing. Some Pink Floyd too, particularly the track Brain Damage.

Pretty much any Reel Big Fish song reminds me of being in my room with a couple of mates whilst we desparately tried to get work done on our final year disserations.
