Well, the soundtrack is going to be interesting, regardless of how the game itself turns out. Divvying up the character themes is going to be tricky, though; I hope the producers are good judges of which composer best suits which song.

And another cool option would be to let people use their Mii character as a fighter (with slightly more stylized graphics or something)... of course the moveset would be the same for every Mii, but they could look different depending on who was playing.
That's a neat idea, but it could quickly get obnoxious. I'm certain I'm not the only person who immediately tried to make a Hitler Mii.

I rather doubt they'll toss the Ice Climbers. They were quite popular with a lot of people, as far as I know. If anyone's getting the boot, it'll be the more obscure extra characters like Pichu. And I thought it was confirmed that Mr. Game and Watch was not coming back, or was that just a rumor?

Regardless, I'd prefer if they didn't dump any of the characters.

Hey, they need to keep Jigglypuff in the game. There's nothing as cathartic as setting up a match against three CPU Jigglypuffs, minimum level, minimum health, to a 100 KO limit. Paste the little suckers all over the place, and listen to their plaintive cries of "Jigglypuuuuuuuff!" as they go flying into the distance.

Wait... Sim City?! That's just ludicrous. I can't believe they actually went that far. If they got that obscure, there's hope for Mr. Game and Watch yet.

On a side note, I still find it kind of absurd to be seeing Mario in such realistically bump-mapped trousers.

Wait, why is everyone excited about Dr. Wright re-appearing again?
If something as bizarrely obscure as Dr. Wright makes it in, the sky is pretty much the limit. God only knows what else they're cramming in there. King Hippo can't be too far off.

Every time I think "Nintendo has lost its mind", something even more screwed up gets leaked. I bet that stage really will change every 5 seconds, too. I cannot give Nintendo my money fast enough at this point.

Snake's not on the cover either, even though we definitely know he's in the game. His inclusion is a pretty big selling point too, I'd wager. The absence of Sonic on the cover really doesn't mean anything.

I never quite understood why levels were banned from tourneys. Seems kinda self defeating in a way.
Probably because item drops and dynamic levels introduces a level of randomness into the matches. The tourney crowd wants to focus entirely on personal gameplay skills, I'd imagine.

Which of course is completely missing the entire point of Super Smash Bros.

There are only 4 characters which should and I believe will most likely be removed: Dr. Mario, Pichu, Roy, and Young Link.
Don't forget Ganondorf, who was also essentially a clone of the Fire Emblem cast.

If they threw in a friggin' Warioware level, I don't think Mr. Game and Watch is going to be cut. He may well wind up playing different, though. Despite the spectacle of wasting people with flapjacks, he wasn't all that effective compared to more straight-forward characters.

Princess Zelda's appearance will probably depend on whether they want to stick primarily to Twilight Princess characters. If Young Link gets replaced by Wind Waker Link, it wouldn't be too out of place to have Ocarina of Time Zelda as well.

Clones aside, I'm dubious that any existing characters are getting the axe. Changed maybe (like Link and Mario), but too many people liked using Sheik to just drop her like a hot potato. As a general rule it is a very bad thing to remove (good) features from sequels.

Or perhaps you could choose a level like "I suck" or "I kick ass" or "" and be paired up with other people who choose that same level.
Like you wouldn't have expert players setting themselves to "I suck" so they could sneak in and bully the newbie players? It's probably a lot fairer to just throw everyone into a random mix.

Scorecards would have been nice, but on the other hand I'm rather happy to see Nintendo actively moving to somewhat quell the "Super Smash Bros is Serious Business!" crowd.

Also, damn my brother to hell for making me actually know what you were going on and on about with Link's VA. I wasn't that much of a mecha anime fan. ;_;

Dare they mention Mudkip? Nintendo can't possibly be ignorant of that meme. Not with as many internet references are in Animal Crossing.

Besides what would be the point of just dressing up Ness's fighting moves in a new model and ditching him? I think Sakurai has got this handled.
Like say, taking Link's moves, then dressing them up in a Twilight Princess model? It's Lucas because Mother 3 is the most recent game, no more, no less. See what's-her-name from Fire Emblem and the Pokemon Trainer (even though he's using the original starters).

Am I the only person who really doesn't care about Sonic, but is still waiting with bated breath to hear the return of Mr. Game and Watch?

Besides, they should have kept Sonic's inclusion quiet outside some tactically leaked rumors, and then let people unlock him on their own. Watching the confusion, angry refutations, and general idiocy spill across the internets would be a thing of utter beauty.

At this point, my last desperate hope is that Nintendo is holding back for a giant Mother collection with all three games to be released on the DS or something. It's about the only way I could see it coming out here at this rate.

If they were really weak on the fanboy demands, we would still have wavedashing.
Hee, I'm still quietly hoping there is no Final Destination level. Nothing but varied, dynamic levels for the tourney fanboys. Oh, the wailing and lamenting would be glorious.

Quoted for absolute truth. Real skill comes with the players who can utilize the items and dodge stage hazards. I never understood why some of the tourney's I've seen limit themselves to Final Destination without items -__-'. I mean, there's like 2GB of SSBM or so wasted because no one takes advantage of it...
See, this is my line of thinking when I mock the Final Destination whores. Random terrain and hammers falling from the sky are as much a part of the game as anything else, and you're not really playing the game at all if you turn that stuff off. It's like playing Street Fighter, except saying you can only be Ryu or Ken, and no using special moves. I mean, if you want a static, level environment in which to show off your skills, then why are you playing Super Smash Bros?!

Counterpoint: The Wii probably doesn't have as much RAM as the XBox 360. That, or the game doesn't leave much space leftover in memory, or streaming data to the flash memory interrupts gameplay. Not that it makes anyone less of a sad panda, but there's probably a legitimate reason for it. Maybe it's something they can work on between now and February.

It's like the gift that keeps on giving. I've made it my policy never to pre-order, but damn, I think I might have to.

I wonder how the possibility of player-made penis stages is going to affect the game's rating?

In before the internet gets flooded by rotating penis swastika stages.
Don't forget the gratuitous five leafed plants and racial slurs. It's not complete without references to drugs and racism.

It's amazing how, given a blank slate and near limitless freedom, so many people all collectively come up with the same few ideas over and over again. Oh look, the moving platforms are making it look like the crude cock is jizzing across the stage. That is so clever. I'm sure nobody has ever thought of that before.

I'm looking forward to this, and Super Mario Galaxy. When Brawl comes out, I will pick up another Wii I guess. :P
Haha, no you won't. The Wii is still constantly sold out everywhere. Considering how barren the console's library of games has been up 'til now, Nintendo's marketing machine must be the stuff of legends.

It's going to be even harder to find a Wii as Xmas and SSB's release date draw nearer, so I'd recommend starting to camp stores now.

Why wasn't there this much wailing and gnashing of teeth when Ocarina of Time Link got the axe in favor of Twilight Princess Link? TP Link's moves are slightly different too! He's like a totally different person! Oh the humanity, a veteran like Ocarina of Time Link being tossed to the side in favor of this new squirt.

I'm kinda curious to see what they do with Luigi, though. I doubt he's getting the axe, but they're not going to bring him back as a clone. I imagine he's getting a complete workover, probably to include that vaccuum cleaner from Luigi's Mansion.

What is it with the fighting game crowd and acting like a bunch of 12 year olds? Does the genre just naturally attract people who are incapable of growing up?
