And even send short messages during brawls!
And how exactly would that work? "hold on guys dont attack me i want to pop up the wii keyboard doohickey and taunt you"

Unless maybe that's the whole point. "you suck so much i was able to hunt and peck FIVE CHARACTERS keep the change kid"

The phrases are mapped to the four d-pad buttons, which are now all Taunt buttons. You would enter your phrase before hand, and whenever you hit that particular button, that phrase appears with your taunt.

It says that quite clearly in the update.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm not sure if I've read correctly, but I thought so far the absence of records was only in the "with anyone" mode...

But online anything is great enough for me. Random matches with anyone? That's cool. Friend codes with a few extra features? Great. Lag? Well here's hoping you can choose regional and worldwide matches to suit speed freaks.

I loaded up japantime today and squealed with girlish glee. This was the one thing Nintendo needed to do to make me happy. They could ruin my favorite character, introduce five Jigglypuff clones, and replace all the music in the game with DK Rap. Doesn't matter, there's wifi.

No records in random play I'm not sure of yet. On the one hand, it does solve the disconnecting loser problem. It also means we won't get any supercool world-wide scoreboard thing like with Mario Strikers though, unless they introduce a separate scored mode. I don't see ohgodthinkofhtechildren to be as big a problem here as with other games though, since finding friends for Smash Brothers should be no problem. Everybody with a Wii will probably buy this game, why lie.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

This picture of a My Little Pony represents my failure to review the Mix CD that was sent to me. Like this image, I am a shining beacon of shame and disgrace.

Yup, quite clearly at the top! Obviously skipped over that portion of the post.

I wonder if With Anyone mode will attempt to match you with players at about the same skill level. Since the update says the game won't keep records, it probably won't unless it stores them without ever making them accessible, so if players are randomly chosen, you could get someone ten times worse than you or ten times better. But that's part of the fun!

Or perhaps you could choose a level like "I suck" or "I kick ass" or "" and be paired up with other people who choose that same level.

They could have still kept the records if they had some sort of fix against it.

1. Disable Home during battle so they can't leave.
2. Implement a "Chicken Shit" feature, which is a record of every time a player doesn't finish a battle, like turning off the system.

Other than that, FANTASTIC update!

You know, one thing I don't like about punishing people for quiting on matches is that PERHAPS they actually have a legitimate reason to quit a match like getting called on by an impatient parent to carry in groceries or some other chore, diarrhea, or a phone call. I mean I still laugh at the idea of someone getting upset over a tarnished record but hey over 3 years of playing and having lots of phone calls and/or upset stomaches during matches that number could build up and if people were to somehow look at that and decide not to play with you that seems a bit unfair don't you think? It's called life and shit sometimes happens.

Also no online stats is a good thing since if people aren't playing to have the best record ever then they are playing for the correct reason which is to have fun. People will still probably quit from matches if they are getting uber raped or something like that but at least noone will care. Next player please.

And unfortunately it seems the game will be using its own Friend Codes and not the Wii system code like Metroid Prime 3. MP3 uses the Wii24Connect system like the bulletin board and what not. Games where you just exchange some things but not actual online play can use Wii24Connect.

Sure Nintendo could have used parental controls but since that actively involves a parent being responsible for what their child does it's just not good enough since parents would rather blame videogames instead of their own bad parenting. With Friend Codes you actually know this friend. With random play there is no communication or exchange of information since these random people aren't your friends.

Yes it sucks but it's a very smart and easy way for Nintendo to cover their asses from any backbiting parents. It would have been nice to exchange friend codes with people you meet over random play if both parties consent but there lies the problem. If any of the party is not an adult it won't work in Nintendo's point of view.

Nintendo could solve this with an online passport if you will. All players must have a passport in order to play online. On this passport will be date of birth, name, age, address, and a parent will also have to have a passport with a password that they'll enter to allow their child to have an account. None of this information would be public online but would be used to send letters or emails to the parent to show what games their kid has been playing, how long, and who they've added to their friend's list, etc. every week (for email) or month (for snailmail) or they can log in online to check this shit out in realtime for themselves.

PROBLEM IS while this would be safe and secure and what not IT'S A PAIN IN THE ASS for almost all parties involved. Also what if someone were to fake their information or fake a credit card or whatever verification device? I'm sure a lot of people would be having issues with the Big MaN for some reason or other.

So from Nintendo's point of view their Friend Codes make sense. I'm sure they debated long on this and came to this conclusion. It sucks but if you think of it like this it makes sense.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Okay, okay, I'll stop.

Today's update shows off some enemies from the one player mode. Like this one

A mildly interesting update, though now I can't shake the feeling that this mode will only be marginally better than SSBM's Adventure mode... What's with this negativity I'm feeling? D:

Like you wouldn't have expert players setting themselves to "I suck" so they could sneak in and bully the newbie players? It's probably a lot fairer to just throw everyone into a random mix.

Scorecards would have been nice, but on the other hand I'm rather happy to see Nintendo actively moving to somewhat quell the "Super Smash Bros is Serious Business!" crowd.

Also, damn my brother to hell for making me actually know what you were going on and on about with Link's VA. I wasn't that much of a mecha anime fan. ;_;

Erm... Well since the day was overshadowed by the SWEET looking MGS4, no one gave a crap about SSBB. Either that, or because of the Wi-Fi this week, the interest level for today's update was ZILCH.

Piplup was announced as a Pokemon. Meh. Very Meh.

I freaking love this, they've finally showed some Snake moves at TGS

Mr. Saturn spotted and I can pretend that bat is Mother related too. So if his bat is an item, does this mean no Ness or yes Ness? ;_;

Hanging from a cypher, /v/ is already saying it's a up + b move, but I haven't seen confirmation.

The homerun bat's been around since the original Smash Bros., so that doesn't really mean anything. I'd be really surprised if they actually took Ness out of the game though.

Since they didn't say if C. Falcon will be in the game I'm even more worried about Ganondorf "surviving" and appearing on brawl. But... considering we'll not have L-cancelling anymore, maybe he as should be kicked anyway, lol. Slow character.

Considering Wi-Fi.. it's absolutely great...! Being a Brazilian it's sometime awful to have few good players on big championships and now being able to battle some good people around the world. As already said, I just hope lag isn't that bad. playing with Brazilians I usually have 20-50ms... with americans 200-300 on ping.

Also, everybody will improve faster being abble to LOSE a lot to someone that plays better, online. With youtube, also, videos with "good moves" will be shared rapidly... It'll be great! I expect a lot of players, a few really good players and good championships.

PvP For the win!

Some people want the Home Run Bat to be noted as a Mother item. I actually call it the Casey bat, and no one has a clue what I'm talking about. xD

I'm starting to reconsider what I originally thought. I'm pretty sure Ness won't be dropped now, and the same easily goes any of the original twelve characters not yet announced...

Edit: Wow, after what was just posted by Qwarky, Friday's update is about Snake, his special moves, and a "MSG4 Love Theme: Brawl Version".

After seeing those screenshots, I was thinking that's what the update might be about.

His special moves:

B + Side: Remote Missile

Fire, and control it...

Seems... familiar... >_>

B: Hand Grenade

Pull the pin, let it cook if you want, then throw it. Depending on how you have the stick tilted, it will be a soft, normal or strong throw.

B + Up: Cypher

Apparently, /v/ was correct.

All in all, he looks like he's going to be an awesome character, more then what I originally thought. =D

I was speaking idiomatically.

I'm actually kind of happy that there's no record of playing random people since, well, against crazy people, I would get my ass handed to me by everybody else. Keeping record against friends is much better for me, since I wouldn't have a completely disowning record because we all suck together. It's a good thing. I like having the option of playing with completely random people though, so it's all good.

So wait...didn't somebody say on here that they weren't going to put up info on the website relating to unlockable characters? So I guess that's not true or Snake isn't unlockable.

Also why would you put MGS4 music in a Smash Bros. Brawl game? I mean I know it's from the trailers but come on it's like advertising in this game: "BUY A PS3! BUY MGS4!!"

Buy a PS3 and MGS4 just for the music?

SOUNDTRACK PLZ!

Really maybe they just happen to be working on the MGS4 music and decided to port one of their newest works to SSB:B while they're working on it.

I'd imagine he's an unlockable character still (but he could be there from the go - anything is possible), however we've all known about Snake for a while now. It's possible that Diddy, Pokemon Trainer, and Ike are also unlockable characters that they've shown us. So while I don't expect them to show us all of unlockable characters (that would ruin a lot of the discovery in the game) a couple here and there seems like something they'd do.

Also why would you put MGS4 music in a Smash Bros. Brawl game? I mean I know it's from the trailers but come on it's like advertising in this game: "BUY A PS3! BUY MGS4!!"
Sakurai and Kojima worked together on all Metal Gear Solid content in SSBB. If they've both agreed on having some music from Metal Gear Solid 4 that has been tweaked a bit for SSBB then that's their call. At least the tweaking makes it belong a tad to SSBB in a sense.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
