What self-respecting merchant will sell things that will kill his lucrative customers?
![]() But eh, what do we have to do (or be) to summon domesticated familiars? Is it a new class, or is it a feat that is available to martial Rangers? There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I see. I look forward to meeting him after smashing up his Horned Hold home then!
Also, perchance where is this summoning a familiar thing documented? Is it in PHB3? How ya doing, buddy? |
Don't keep me in suspense till January.
Let me open that blasted box already .__. BTW can't say I'm a fan about increased monster damage with the prospect of decreased monster HP. It's certain to make battles against hordes (like the Hargast one) fairly lethal to the PCs. And of course if you use minions, then we don't even get the HP trade-off. I don't have any clue of how D&D battles pan out in the Paragon and Epic tiers, but it seems to me that this sort of adjustment is a double-edge sword. At the higher levels, it will really speed up battles to have hundreds of HP lopped off your enemies, while the addition of a damage die will not boost damage that much. The opposite is true at the lower levels. However, I'm fairly sure this will be a popular choice to the bystanders here - I certainly would be gloating if I were one ![]() Most amazing jew boots |
Why not just increase the enemy damage by 33%?
Seriously. Cut their health by 33%, increase their damage (after dice roll and bonuses) by 33%. Fair is fair (since your duergar scout example increases his damage by 53%, from an average 8.5 to 13). I was speaking idiomatically.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
![]() FELIPE NO |
Don't open that door Skex. It's a TRAP
![]() What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I say we open the other door first before setting the ice elemental free. That way we have more options should it turn out to be malevolent.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Over twelve enemies with an extra damage die, oi vey. I'm gonna suggest we do concentrated focus fire on each enemy, one at a time. Based on our previous experience with Helga, we're probably gonna have to swarm Framarth with melee attackers, since excepting that close burst thing, Helga's most debilitating attacks were ranged.
We're going against maybe 2 spinagons, 1 theurge, and at least ten duergar guards or scouts by the sound of it. If we get a chance to do a round of opportunity, I'd also suggest immediate use of action points for Glock, Gordok, and Gheth since this will hopefully be our penultimate encounter in this dungeon. Thoughts? There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Hopefully I have a clear shot from two corners of that square
Rules lawyerin' I'm not sure about one thing though. The power card for Two-Fanged Strike says if both attacks hit, add wisdom modifier to damage. I'm not sure whether to include half my level to that, so I went conservative since 2 HP isn't terribly important. How ya doing, buddy? |
YES, that's PRECISELY what I was hoping he would do
![]() Ok srsly I'll edit it to match whatever movement choices you decide to make! By the way, may I request a map of the room we're in? I may want to retreat further in future rounds, and want to make sure I don't retreat to a wall. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Thanks for the map!
So, just so I don't shoot at things that are dead, is that B10 minion is still alive? Cuz Acer killed two, right, and there's no corpse? Also, if the answer is yes, does he provide cover to the devil? No question about it if Devil's on the ground, but he's floating in the air, so thought I'd ask. I was speaking idiomatically. |
It should help, but not against sweet attack rolls like you just did
![]() Well guys, provided you can persuade the enemy to move closer by just a square per round, we'd be able to get nice 1d10+7 damage (lol, my basic ranged hits harder than my at-will) with a 50% probability! How ya doing, buddy? |
That goes without saying, what with the additional damage die and the twelve or so enemies. We get bloodied after every successful single attack, so being pasted is probably a foregone conclusion if we stay and fight
![]() Everyone... RETREEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!! Let's lure them to the bridge again! Pang will never know what hit him! FELIPE NO |
It's not fair to blame Pang for having hot hit and damage dice rolls though, Skex. Though I do disagree with the additional damage die from day one, since I think it makes things too difficult for lower levels and too easy for higher levels. By upping damage AND inundating us with enemies, I'm pretty sure Pang wants to kill one or more of us in the Horned Hold. Let's spite him by surviving this
![]() Garrmondo purchased his longbow with his hard-earned gold. You can have my (mundane) crossbow if you like. Just as soon as either of us can spare a minor Though with those gnolls right next to us, your melee attacks are probably more useful now. Most amazing jew boots |
I fully support this house rule!
![]() A pity I have only one action point. Maybe next time. Additional Spam: Hi Pang. Is it possible that the minions are so tired from running, that Garrmondo can just reach across and close the door on them? ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark.

Wizards of the Coast actually did give archer rangers attacks that pierce multiple enemies, as a Christmas gift
![]() If Glock is still alive by then, I think there's a class act for bards coming his way pretty soon... Thanks, Pang There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Why not just do a second wind now, Garr, and use up that minor to draw either a heal or antivenim potion from your pack? At least you'll get extra defense. I've a feeling you'll need it...
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Oh well. Maybe next time.
P.S. If you spend your action point at the next turn, a saving throw of 6+ should suffice against poison. What with all the nice stacks. While we're talking about stacking up stuff, can I clear up how many effects stack? For example, Gordok's attack dazes enemies, granting us combat advantage. Gheth's spiritual weapon grants combat advantage too. Plus the +1 bonus from Glock's Song of Courage... How ya doing, buddy? |
How about cover, Pang? Let's say I'm shooting an enemy who is hiding behind allies, AND is also hugging a wall, such that he would still have cover even if there's no enemy in front of him...?
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Thank you, Professor Pang. That was quite a comprehensive treatise on cover. It will prove most useful if and when I put my plans* into motion.
![]() Two questions though: 1. ![]() It seems to me that the imaginary lines pass through the 5:30 corner of the wall just fine. Does the little edge obstruct the lines that connect to the 1:30 and 7:30 corners of the target square? 2. The rules say there is superior cover if "three or more" lines are obstructed. I'm curious as to why the designers find it necessary to add "or more" -- isn't it the case that you can't attack the enemy at all if you can't draw a single unobstructed imaginary line from one of your corners to one of his? * Plans to do a dungeon delve, that is. I'm getting very curious into seeing how it's like to "play" on the other side, for once. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Wow, another hot set of dice for Pang. Man, I want in on Framarth's crit luck... Hopefully Gordy's Second Chance will result in less damage and consciousness. It'd be freakish if Pang crits off him again (though I wouldn't be surprised if he gets high damage, with the way the stars are aligned)!
______
![]() EDIT: Mobile melee. Fft fft. Never mind (The Secret Cow Level thread is actually fourth on Google results for "mobile melee" gnoll)...______ I'd like to ask about the terrain in the room Cal is in. Are those dividing walls inside the room? Or just decorative fluff of some sort? FELIPE NO |
I'm kinda hoping the next guy would play a defender class, as we got more than enough leaders/controllers right now. (Especially if Garrmondo bites the dust here.)
But it looks like it'll have to wait until wvlfpvp .__. Most amazing jew boots |
He may be made of metal, but Glock's almost as squishy as I am (and with less fortitude, go figure)
![]() I'm not asking for more defense though. Cal just wants a tank with tons and tons of HP to go out there and be his meatshield, so he can shoot happily with impunity. Surely Bob can relate? ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
From a story point of view, no sane orc would join up with us after what happened to Voshnak and his compatriots
![]() A Minotaur would be rather funny, given the name of the current adventure (and unless the minotaur's undead, Pang will have a difficult time explaining the creature's entrance.). Choosing a Gnoll would likely push discomfort levels of remaining party members to the stratosphere, from a role-playing point of view. Cal would probably be extremely uncomfortable partnering with bugbears, bullywugs, gnolls, kenkus, kobolds, and wildens, given his predilection with harvesting internal organs of animals (and duergars). There's nowhere I can't reach. |
