Need advice on buying a flatscreen tv

An LCD? If you want to settle, all right. That's your call. Though plasmas do make lousy monitors. Better at everything else, though.

It sounds like you have some space issues, so I'd probably be looking at the Sharp 37D64U. That'll be a 1080p ready LCD, with good sound on the set itself so you can avoid having to put up surround sound if you don't have room for it, and it's right at your price point.

95% true. HD cable in NA is 720p/1080i. Supposedly you can't tell the difference between 1080p and 720p until you hit 55+ inches of screen. Most games are a native res of only 720p anyway. HOWEVER, I have a Panasonic 42" 1080p television. My buddy has a Panasonic 720p Panasonic tv. And you can see the difference noticeably on one medium: Blu-Ray.

I watch Tv more then anything so i got a plasma, HDready and my xbox gfx still look great. Plasmas burn-in more easily tho, so get a good model that doesnt keep them forever.
Dunno what models you have in America so I can't recommend any specific. But samsungs new tv's are awesome. Also LG (what i have) have made some top-notch shit. Might want to check into Sony too, although often they are way to overpriced.

Plasmas are also better for movies, and especially for blu-rays due to their excessively superior black levels, contrast levels usually more than 100 times that of the LCDs, and MUCH higher colour gamuts. The only thing Plasmas don't do as well or better than an LCD is the length of their life, working well in a panel under 42", handling bright lights and working as a computer monitor. Anything other than these four things.

Also, for the love of god, don't buy LG if you can avoid it.

LCD: Sharp, Samsung, Sony.

Plasma: Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

LCDs are leaps and bounds better than a Plasma for monitors. I'd never use a plasma tv as a monitor. I prefer Plasmas for gaming, though. I love their depth of colour for it, and they're lightning quick.
