Summer Games, Summer Games

Every summer I get a nostalgic kick in the face. Boom! Like that. I get reminded of the fact a big break is coming over and that I'm going to play videogames. This nostalgic kick always consists of the same games. Which games do remind you of the summer period, because you played the game for hours and hours?

Neverwinter Nights - Released in June 2002, I started to play this. I got addicted to it and couldn't get enough of it... until I lost my savegames. Tried to replay it, but never got too far because I lacked motivation.

Morrowind - Last year I was done with school after exams and bored stiff. I bought Morrowind a while ago, but found it boring. I decided to try it again and that time I got addicted to it (a tribute for those who remember my old journal).

How ya doing, buddy?

Ahh summer holidays, i remember them, many a year ago. No summer break for me this year. I have to work.

Final Fantasy VII - this game has taken away many hours, possibly even weeks, worth of my life. But it was/is a good game, and i still find myself going back to it every so often.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - When this first came out I was like everyone else who had it. I was unable to put it down. My many hours in the game were mostly spent just driving about, and exploring the massive city. (I never experienced GTA3.) I must say that I suffered at work though, all the late nights that I had playing this game.

Gran Turismo - I spent more or less a solid year on this game, man did my schoolwork suffer because of it. This is still one of my favourite racing games of all time. The Dodge Viper GTS was my most used car, i must have clocked well over 50,000 miles in that.

Mostly ones I've rented from the SNES period and held out far past their return dates...And in most cases, rerented. Often.

Kendo Rage
Sporting News Baseball
Megaman 7
Ninja Warriors
Both Street Fighter 2 and TMNT IV, which came out essentially at the same time in 1992.
Final Fantasy 4 and 6 (I remember discussing 4 with some people at summer camp and "learning" I needed to be at level 99 to beat Zeromus...I still want to slug that kid, all these years later. And Summer '95, I rented FFVI, played about 20 hours, actually bought the game and went through it about 8 times. My SNES was tired of that game by the time fall came around.)

And also, Marvel vs Capcom 2, since I started going to tournaments for it in 2001 and went to a couple large ones over that summer (ECC, plus ones held at Gametime in Virginia). We had a fairly dedicated group of players in MD and was a lot of fun. At least before the game's tactics started getting stupid and most of us lost interest in it or weren't willing to travel for it (plus our old arcade in Towson shut down and we didn't have an arcade to play at).

Lastly, the old Konami X-Men beat 'em up that was only out in the arcades...I looked forward to playing that every year on vacation.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Disgaea - totally clocks in at 120 hours and going. I remember that I played it every waking moment and day of reading week in February/March, until it was lecture time again, out of sheer compulsion.

Tetris Attack - is a lethal time-waster. I played it so many times back for the SNES, and when I gave my SNES to my cousins, I kept the cart for myself and kept playing the emulated version. I played it to the point where I quickly laughed at the Extra Hard mode + BALL (speed up) code without having to use any continues ever. Working towards maxing out the counter in endless mode at 9/10 hours or so.

Puyo Pop Fever - I loved the game entirely, and I memorized almost all of the chain shouts at one point. I would just lay around sloth-like facing CPU Yuu or Accord and losing so many times due to the CPU's flawless speed.

Summer always reminds me Katamari Damacy. I played a lot of that last summer. I can't think of anything else at the moment.

I suppose summer also reminds me of Dreamcast because I played that console almost exclusively during summer.

For me summer time is the same as rest of the year. I play games same long as I was earlier only this time in summer I have to work so I have 6 hours less to play. If we are talking about summer games only game that come in my mind is:

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball - I use to play it a lot!! I just loved this game and couldn't stop buying new swimsuits for girls. After a while I just patched it witch nude patch and had fun a little =D.

That's all I think... this summer is under Guild Wars sign =)!!

Most of my summers I had to go without video games because my parents sent me to summer camp, and when I was at home they made me put the Nintendo in the closet. So unfortunately I don't have any games that make me think of summer or vice versa. Although I do remember one summer where I had the Xenogears soundtrack stuck in my head, but all I had were a CD and tape full of midis from other games.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Terranigma, Radical Dreamers, and Chrono Trigger always remind me of the summer. I played all three games in one month a few summers ago, but I haven't picked them up since that period. Suikoden III is one game that I always associate with summer vacation though.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I would vacation to my grandmother's house in BC to escape my parents and relax after the school year. Games that I remember playing through during then were Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4 and 6, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 3 and Double Dragon II for NES. When I learned about FF5 for SNES, I went to GameFAQs and tried creating a web site about it.

Strangely, I can remember more games during the winter. FF7, FF6 again, Tekken 3, Bloody Roar: Primal Fury, Smash Bros...

Mario World - I forgot how old but we finally got a SNES one June with Mario World packaged in. We played that game to the floor.

Sonic (Genesis and Game Gear) - I traded my hamster at the end of one school year for a Game Gear and that summer was spent poolside with it. Then at night, we'd crash by the Genesis and play the exact same thing (well sort of).

Lufia II - This is just my childhood, period. My brother got it from a friend for his birthday (in August) and we tried to cram as much playtime in before school began.

Legend of Dragoon - I spent the summer before freshman year playing this religiously. I'd eat shaved ice with tea until my face was numb and my teeth were squeaky, all with the other hand on the controller.

Man there are so many more, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Chrono Trigger, some dumb-ass Mickey Mouse game on SNES that was ridiculously fun, Dragon Ball fighting game, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, FFVIII, FFX.

Summers were spent finishing up games our mother wouldn't buy us during the school year. Growing up, my brother and I would be copped up in front of the TV in my mom's bedroom, playing all night after spending the day swimming with super soakers in the pool and roller blading around the neighborhood. And ice cream, lots of ice cream.

I miss childhood Summers always felt different.

One game. Legend of Legaia. Yeah, that dragged-out fest that I played when I was still taking TKD in '98, recommended by a good pal of mine.

Bah, I was going to make a Summer Games thread as soon as I got back from the cruise, but I was beaten to it. My theme was a bit different though, where you would list games that had a summer theme to it. But I'll just post my picks here rather than starting a new thread.

1. Chrono Cross: This may just be due to the fact that I received the game at summer, but CC is the one game I always associate summer with. The entire setting of the game has a tropical feel to it, from the clothing on the characters, to the beach that you use to shift to and from both worlds, and the beautiful coral reef that makes up the game's intro. The utterly fantastic soundtrack also brings about a summer feel when listening to it. I always make sure to give the soundtrack a good listen around this time.

2. Super Mario Sunshine: An obvious choice, but Nintendo did a great job with the summer feel of this game. It's worth it alone for Mario's bonus beachwear.
