Question Merry Birthday! Oh wait, I didn't want that, but why ma and pa and friends?

Do you find that you tend to get better gifts on your birthday or at Christmas time (or your religions equivalent to Christmas)? By better gifts, it could be something that you've actually wanted, or something that carries greater monetary value.

I tend to buy my own Christmas gifts for myself (I know it's sad) but I tend to go a bit more extravagantly than my birthday. Perhaps the main driving force is its a gift giving season for pretty much everybody is in the hussle and bussle of getting gifts, and one might feel left out if not in the rush (albeit with added stress of the Christmas rush).

Also, I think having a birthday in two months proximity to Christmas generally tends to not be as special in terms of gift giving since sometimes my friends' parents might go, "Oh you want a new video game system? It's expensive dear, so why not double up on it and treat this as BOTH your birthday and xmas present?" I think that really sucks. Mine in August is a pretty nice time, I guess. It has that good "time buffer" so very rarely do my parents used to double up on presents unless it's bloody expensive.

Discuss:
1. Do you find that you tend to get better gifts on your birthday or at Christmas time (or your religions equivalent to Christmas)?

2. Do your parents/friends tend to also bunch up your Christmas/holiday gifts and birthday presents?

3. What other holidays or special times (Mother's Day/Father's Day, etc) do you generally get gifts on and how do those compare to your birthday and xmas gifts?

Furthermore, avoid discussing "Oh Xmas is all about peace on earth and good will to men and we really don't need gifts nor with birthdays", since well, this is already assumed that you ARE going to get or buy a gift.

My birthday is very close to Christmas, but I find that the quality of gifts I receive around the holidays is generally better than on my birthday. Outside the immediate family, relatives always give me presents that combine Christmas and my birthday.

I usually just get money/gift cards from most of my family for my birthday and Christmas. This year, though, my mom and stepdad are getting me all the parts for an awesome gaming computer.

Birthday 2005: I split the cost of buying a PSP with my mother. She gave me £60 and I paid the rest myself.

Christmas 2005: A belt, a wristwatch and a CD I already own (Dream Theater's Live At Budokan).

You decide.

1. Do you find that you tend to get better gifts on your birthday or at Christmas time (or your religions equivalent to Christmas)? Yes actually, I have no idea why, but that seems to happen.

2. Do your parents/friends tend to also bunch up your Christmas/holiday gifts and birthday presents? No, not really.. It's usually just birthday and Christmas nothing mixed together.

3. What other holidays or special times (Mother's Day/Father's Day, etc) do you generally get gifts on and how do those compare to your birthday and xmas gifts? I think the only other time I actually get something would be Easter, besides that we don't really celebrate anything else.

My birthday is in December, which I hate because of how close it is to Christmas, but even though it is then, we celebrate them as two completely different holidays.

I was speaking idiomatically.

My birthday is 2 days before Christmas. Then, people feel even more justified for the "this is your Birthday AND your Christmas gift."

Hehe, I have a very nice half-year cushion of either 5 months and 15 days or 6 months and 15 days, between Christmas and my birthday (December 25 and July 10, respectively).

I think I get better gifts around birthday time:
Random year~ Birthday = lots of money, Xmas = Chrono Cross
One year~ Birthday = lots of money, Xmas = PS2
Another year~ Birthday = lots of money, Xmas = FF X-2

I think the fact that I prefer to receive lots of money, over stuff I could afford by myself after some time makes me lean towards birthdays as better gift times. During Christmas, everything not from my parents turns into clothes

At easter time, my grandma gives me money randomly and unexpectedly.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
