Question Building a Computer!

Ok so..i'm about fed up with my piece of crap laptop..i want to try to build my own coputer over the summer...can anyone give me any advice on how to get this started...how much it should cost, and what parts i need? I'm not really great with computers, but it's something that i want to try to accomplish. Mainly I just need it to play music, dvd's burn both cd's/dvd's and use the internet...and typical college stuff nothing else really...everyone's help would be appreciated

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It would cost about $500 without the monitor. You need a motheboard, videocard(unless you have an onboard one), soundcard (unless you have an onboard one), processor, ram, tower with a power supply, and dvd drive. That is prtty much it. To get started go to neweggs.com and pick your parts. Depending on how fast you want it and stuff is up to you. If you are not using it for gaming or for high media stuff you don't really need a super fast computer if your mainly using it for school ect. You might get it for about $300 even if you don't need a high end computer. Once you learn how to put the parts in together its really easy but I don't suggest you do it without learning it from someone.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
