Choose the Newest Company to Join the Console Wars

Whenever an untested company jumps into the console business, everyone is usally incredulous because they've usually been pigeonholed from their many years of doing something else strictly not video games. Be it Sony with PSX or Microsoft with XBox or Panasonic with that one thing a while back (was that one 3DO?), it always causes a commotion.

What if there was to be a new company to join in the foray? Who do you think it would be/want it to be? What distinguishing qualities do you think they'd bring to the table?

I say Pepperidge Farm. The first cookie console, SausalitoStation... the SS.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

BMW.

It'd cost like $6500, have an all-leather interior and smoke riced out consoles in style.

And have a controller that detects jew-handling, quickly and effectively delivering a shock designed to fry the jew out of them.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Apple.

It'll look like a toaster.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I can't see Sega ever coming back. Apple are probably the only IT company at this point of time that has the technical know how, design skills, marketing and financial backing to make a console of their own. And even then, Apple have no real gaming experience, the Mac is still a laughable gaming platform.

As for electronic companies. Panasonic seems to be the only one taking tentative steps but if Sony could pretty much come from nowhere to dominate consoles why a company like Samsung or LG wouldn't force it's way in wouldn't be out of the question.

I'm inclined to say Samsung as well. There's a whole (relatively) untapped market in South Korea. Do they even sell console games in Korean over there?

There are actually several large corporations currently developing their own console.

Fox is currently developing its own console. They have been very secretive about the hardware configurations, but it is speculated that they are using a custom AMD chip, among other things. First party games will obviously be based on various films and television shows produced by Fox. The popular rumor is that a new, very sophisticated Buffy game is scheduled to be the flagship launch title.

Glico. They've mastered Pocky, it's time to rock the console market with the new PretzBox. I can't wait for Men's Pretzbox.

I don't know about that "marketing and financial backing" bit. IBM would be more technically qualified, but they don't need to make their own console when they can just make the stuff that powers everyone else's...
