Anyone here have jury duty yet? Apparently they sent one request to my house, and another request to my mailbox at college, thus I have two duties in two different places. I'm not quite sure what to do... lol.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

They're not scheduled close to each other are they? That's kind of funny... in the observant kind of way.

I'd do the obvious thing and call them to settle things straight. However if one's earlier than the other, just go to that one, and make SURE you get the pink slip. If the later court date (that you didn't go to) is discovered, just show send them a copy of the pink slip.

I was excused from jury duty on Thursday.

Am I the only person who would LOVE to have jury duty?

I don't have to go to work, and I get to pass judgment on people.

And I might even get something cool like a MURDER case, although I'd probably just end up with something boring. But there's a chance!

It's also a civic duty. Why not do it for your city, state or country? It's a worthy cause to follow through with.

I actually dread going to jury duty because I hate to decide someone's fate. My mom got out of her jury duty because of some medical conditions.

Aren't any of you afraid that the person you just committed, will remember every juror's face and hold one of those creeepy grudges that end in you being a headline?

But don't judge, I do my civic duty everytime that yellow letter comes in the mail. I just don't sleep in the court parking lot during breaks.

Have you ever BEEN to Jury Duty?

Let me tell you, it's not a "day off from work." Its about 6 hours of sitting and waiting, literally being locked into a room with a huge amount of other people. Usually with something annoying on the TV. You can't leave the room - not even to smoke. (You all can IMAGINE how well I did with that). You have a bathroom facility in the giant waiting room, but its seriously not fun.

And the trials aren't like they are in the movies. They're a lot slower, a lot dumber, and they lack the drama.

I've been on duty only once. I was excused for my beliefs on animal rights.

I doubt I'd be excited if I were to be chosen for jury duty. But it's something that has to be done, so I'd probably go unless I had a really good reason not to. It just doesn't feel like a very productive use of my time, especially if it's some frivolous civil case.

Yeah, I doubt I'd care. I'm locked in a room and can't leave with a bunch of people for eight hours at work, and they're all old, fat, and smelly. Change of scenery at least.

As to the rest: yes I know ;(

Just go in and tell them that you read the newspaper everyday, are an active voter, and carefully consider everything you hear before forming an opinion on it. I guarantee you will not get picked for one single case. The smarter you appear to be, the less appealing you are to lawyers.

Well, I guess if your job is really that tedious, I suppose it WOULD be a nice break to read a book and sit on a jury while you're on the clock.

I know that personally, I'd rather be at work doing something productive and keeping the paperwork off my desk than sitting in a giant waiting room with a bunch of idiots for hours on end.

If you dislike your job that much though, maybe you should consider a career change? I mean, jury duty is fucking TORTURE for me. Maybe its a difference in personality, but if a day comes when I look forward to serving jury duty to get out of work, I would switch jobs right quick.

It's not that bad. I just enjoy exaggerating and being melodramatic. It adds a little something extra~

Of course. That's how I got through the boredom of waiting last time I had jury duty.

I wouldn't play it during the trial though, even if you're bored.
I actually like jury duty. Not the waiting, of course, but being in a trial is pretty cool. I've yet to get an interesting case though.

I would call the courthouse and explain they sent two notices to two different places. If those different places are in different counties, I believe you only have to show up for the one you are currently residing in. But call the courthouse first. Not showing up can be a serious crime.

I'm not sure about other states, but around here when you get picked its an all day affair. You show up at 7 AM and sit in a waiting area with other potential jurors until a jury selection becomes available. Then, if your picked for the selection, you have to head up to a courtroom where the prosecution and the defense take turns picking and striking jurors. If your picked, your picked. If not, you have to head back down to the waiting area where you may be called up for another selection. This goes on for like eight hours, and if you haven't been selected by then you are allowed to leave.

The last time I was picked for Jury Duty I was struck because the prosecution was trying to play the Age card (I'm in the 'young adult' bracket. They wanted the 'old, retired' bracket).

The state has been cracking down on denizens who have been blowing off their civic duty. AFAIK, if you fail to show up for a selection, the next thing you will have is an angry officer at your door demanding to know why you were absent.

Definately not fun for me, had to wait 8 hours about a really rediculous mental case. Sooooooo boring. In the end he was let go anyway.

My wife got summoned for jury duty once, but it was right after we moved out of the county. Since it was the county courthouse she was summoned to, they dismissed her when they found out she was no longer a resident.
