DK appreciation thread.
Alright just a DK thread where we'd keep an eye out on any new DK game anouncements/rumors for the GC, Revo or DS. Because apperantly, a "No traditional DK game for GC?" thread automaticaly means "ZOMG JUNGLEBEAT SUCKS" =/
Anyway, a Revo DK would be interesting to see but last time I checked there haven't been any confirmations yet... Most amazing jew boots ![]() |

Can this include appreciation for Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat?
Oh ho ho. Seriously though, Mario vs DK and DK: JB are the only DK games I remember enjoying. DKC was good, but it didn't stand out in my mind. DK was my least favorite Nintendo franchise until very recently (now it's AC and AW). So yeah, appreciation. Yay. Also, I predict in DK Rev: Vine swinging. Edit: Mostly I'm pointing out the fact that DK64 sucked rancid ass. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Anyway, totally random but, It'd be neat if DK-Revo had these minigame levels where the camera's positioned behind DK, and you use the Revo controler to swing while dodging enemies and catching bananas... Oh and I don't exactly remember. Did the little expansion cartridge thing for DK64 really make a difference? Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
I loved DK64! Even if everyone else hated it. I loved the feel. It was a nice platforming game. It was in the same league as Super Mario 64 to me.
This is why I don't really have that much doubt that I'll like Donkey Kong Revolution. They most likely will try to make it so much better than DK64 that I'll be overjoyed with the game because I was content with the game everyone hated. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
It just suffered a bit, because of too many characters and things to collect. That's also why the Banjo Kazooie games are superior, although they are both made by the same team of people! How ya doing, buddy? |
AC????? AW?????? Am I just out of the loop or does this guy need to start spelling words in their entirety. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Well, I know AC stood for animal crossing.
I don't know what AW stands for. FELIPE NO |
Gotta be Advance Wars.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Chocobo |
Yeah, Animal Crossing and Advance Wars.
I'm not saying either is a bad series, because they're not. I'm just not into them at all, so they're my least favorite Nintendo franchises. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Sup GFF faggots, who can't handle shit? |
If there is a thread only for DK, then there should be : Link, Mario, Samus, ect.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I was a big fan of the DKC games on SNES. It's cool how they've attempted to port them to various Game Boy systems over the years and failed miserably every time. How ya doing, buddy? |
I was going to post in that thread before I realised it was locked. It's quite logical as to why DK didn't get a platformer style adventure title on the Cube; Nintendo's IPs each cover a seperate genre. You've got Mario for the platformers, Zelda for the adventure/ quazi RPG, Metroid for the exploration/shooter etc. Having a 'DK128' doubles up on the Cube's library, so they find a niche for DK to cover. To an extent, Rare did compete against Nintendo's first party titles last generation. You don't want that for efficiency's sake.

I always thought that DK had enough of it's own appeal and charm. Therefore, it didn't end up really going head to head against Mario. There's plenty of room for both of them.
I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I loved the first two DKC games, but I thought the third one was horrible. I loved the music from the first two DKC games (especially the 2nd), but I thought the third one was horrible. Wow, talk about deja vu.
I'm not a big fan of apes in general, so I never really paid much attention to the DK games, except for the aforementioned Country series and the Donkey Kong game for the GB (which looked awesome on the Super Game Boy). I just LOVE the DK theme used in Push Mode (Tetris DS), however, and the Kremlings did come out of the DK series, so I'm happy with that. Anthro crocs are always cool in my book. The recent DK games now look a little too 'out there' for me, however. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Donkey Kong Country 2 was the best out of the DKC trilogy. I enjoyed the first one as well but three was just annoying. FELIPE NO |
Fair enough. I don't see why my previous thread was closed. There was no reason to treat it like a Jungle Beat bashing thread when all it suggested was a new traditional DK game. Anyway, I didn't realize DK64 got such backlash. Especialy since, from what I remember, it pretty much recieved good reviews. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |

I think Donkey Kong COuntry 1 and 2 are some of the best games of all time. I love the railcart levels and the barrel vine levels. AHhh....good times. Now I have to go listen to Aquatic Ambiance There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
BUBSY APPRECIATION THREAD BUBSY APPRECIATION THREAD BUBSY APPRECIATION THREAD BUBSY APPRECIATION THREAD BUBSY APPRECIATION THREAD BUBSY APPRECIATION THREAD ![]() I don't like Donkey Kong because he's furry and reminds me of King Kong. Plus, I was on the Megadrive crowd, so everything else felt so foreign. DK64? Only $129.95? Better put that on lay-by son, I'm dipping into my life savings! (Actually, I ended up lay-bying DK64 and then about eight years later I decided that I wasn't actually going to purchase it. Mainly because Donkey Kong's a furry. And I never had a life savings.) Also, if this exists, I'd like a Cool Spot thread. Because he's a cool spot. Please? ;_; This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

It only got good reviews because by that point in the N64 lifespan games were releasd at a rate of 1 every 3 months. Reviewers were grateful to even turn the system on, for when they did memories of happier times engulfed them and everything was reviewed well.
Go back and play Banjo Tooie. Utter tripe. How ya doing, buddy? |
DKC 1 and 2 are classics. I own 2, but not 1. I've thought about picking it up several times. 2 is just such a larger game, with more variety, more secrets, etc. However, 1 just has a certain "feel" to it that appeals to me.
Taking turns playing through the levels in college was some of the most fun we had with games. People would spazz out when I would run through a level non-stop instead of being careful - it's just how I play. ![]() I think the original DCK is an important game in the SNES library because it really heralded a completely new level of graphics. I wonder what a fully polygonal/shaded/etc. side-scrolling DKC would look like? What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Lightning Look-Out Rocket Run Poisonous Pipeline Not to mention how difficult they were. FELIPE NO ![]() |
The biggest problem with the DKC gba versions were the music. They butchered it. I didn't believe it until I listened to a good quaility version of DKC2 Original soundtrack after hearing the GBA music. They couldn't really even do all of the good background effects in the music like the SNES one.
What was with DKC3 GBA's music though? They completely changed it. It wasn't at all as good as the SNES music. I guess maybe the DKC3 soundtrack was a little too complex to put on the GBA. They problably didn't even want to go through the hassle of it. Who made the music for DKC3 gba? Maybe it was still David Wise? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Yeah. For the GBA versions Dave Wise alone was the composer. For DKC3 for the SNES, Eveline Fischer assisted Dave. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
