Video Card upgrading

Hallo hallo GFF.

Right now I've got a nVidia 8800GT 512 and it's starting to crap up on me. Driver failings, they even happen if I go back to older drivers.

So, I'm looking to upgrade. My budgest would be... a card less then 300$, and buy-able from NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection.

Thoughts, suggestions? At this point, I have no problems between ati and nvidia.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

NVidia 9800GT would probably be a good bet for you.

I heard the GTx cards are better, or the ati HD ones.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Isn't the 9800gt basically the same card as the 8800gt though?

If you save up 20$ more, you can buy a radeon 5850, which not only rapes every game maxed out, but it also has ridiculous overclock potential, and it looks like a batmobil.

I was speaking idiomatically.

As far as I know, they are not the same. I think its the 8800GT and the 9600GT that are basically the same.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

According to wikipedia, the 9600gt is an "upgrade" of the 8600, and the 9800gt is a 8800gt manufactured on 55nm.

This thread is definitive proof that NVIDIA's naming scheme is pretty much the bunkest shit on the ENTIRE PLANET. Even if you follow this it's easy to get tripped up.

Yeah, the more we talk about it, the more confused I actually get. The only differences are the specs then? Such as 8600GT might have 500Mhz and the 9600GT has 750Mhz? something like that?.... :S
