Does it have to be a place (business, location, whatever) or can it be something like weather, local culture, etc.?

There's really not much of note in my town anymore. Lockport, NY, is quickly becoming the Eastern-Great Lakes version of Flint, Michigan, complete with flailing, nearly derelict GM plants. All the interesting things we ever had went belly up and shipped out quite a while ago. Nowadays, Lockport is the place to be if you want draft beer, car parts, prescription medicine or mediocre pizza. We've got all that in spades. Culture? Hell naw.

If pressed to take one place, I'd probably take this little eatery called "One-Eyed Jack's." If you're into anything BBQ pork, they don't disappoint. Large portions, reasonable prices, shitloads of extra spicy BBQ sauce on demand. I doubt I could find a place like that in every town.

Depending on where I'm moving, a solid, alternate choice would be Tim Horton's. Not sure what's in their coffee - cocaine is my best guess - but it's a morning tradition for me now.

The Sushi Bar (shits on Yo Sushi for quality), Lee Louise and The Rainforest Shop. The latter two do border on new age, but they have beautiful jewellry and fantastic handmade clothing and accessories. And Albert have some wonderful fairtrade clothing and furniture as well. Everything else here is a carbon copy chain store, so I wouldn't need to take any of them with me.

I actually wish I had this ability when I moved to NYC. As good as the pizza is here, there is a pizza place in Lawrence, MA that I grew up with that is, to this day, still the best pizza I've ever had, and it's the pizza served at Tripoli Bakery. Square pies with thin crusts, super sweet sauce, and light cheese. Never had anything like it anywhere else. You can find Tripoli pizza at a few random places (Salisbury Beach, MA is the only one I've seen, but I heard there are others), but there's nothing like the original. Check it out here to see what I mean:

http://www.tripolibakery.com/pizza.htm

Now, if I had to move away from NYC, I would take with me my favorite restaurant, Don Giovanni's. A somewhat unknown Italian restaurant, though for the life of me I couldn't tell you why. Located right off the theater district, it's in a prime location for a shitload of traffic, but to this day, every time I've gone, I've never had to wait, and the service has been supremely good. But the food is even better. Huge portions of absolutely UNBELIEVABLE Italian food. They also have a gigantic brick oven for extremely tasty pizzas, and the best part is that all of this is relatively cheap compared to other NYC eateries. I take everyone who visits me to Don Gio's, and they all agree that it completely kicks ass.

There's a bar here in town called Brewbakers that brews all their own beers. I don't think this requires further explanation either.

There's actually a Brewbakers in Keene, NH that brews their own coffee. I think I would prefer your Brewbakers.

I'd probably take Central BBQ with me, since it's pretty much the best barbeque in Memphis. Corky's is good and all, but Central is SO MUCH BETTER. If you're ever in town, GO THERE.

Rudy's, hands down.

I'm in a cutting phase right now, and my diet involves a very, very low amount of carbs. Like under 30g daily (excluding fiber o'course). Definitely the easiest eating lifestyle I've ever had. I lack a sweet tooth, so it's pretty painless.

I don't always feel up to cooking, and there are times where I'm unable to cook a massive meal in advance. Unfortunately, most places (99.9%) either have shit meat, breaded meat, or stuff with lots of sugar stuffed in there. Or a combination of those. When situations like this arise, turkey from Rudy's typically saves the day =o I can't eat out anywhere nowadays (except maybe a pizza joint, if I just eat the cheese/topping) as a result, but Rudy's is perfectly fine. Plus an occasional sammich from there doesn't hurt my progress at all! =V Everything in moderation, as I always say.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

I'd probably take something similar: Prime16. Simply the best beer bar I've been to (great burgers too). It wasn't part of my decision of where to attend grad school, but damn was it a good find.

My first choice would definitely be the music faculty at the university since that's the only reason I came here really and picking that up and heading back home would be great.

If it'd have to be a restaurant or store of some sort then it would be this little convenience store that doubles as a beer store on the corner of Rachel and Prรฉfontaine streets close to my appartment. I can rarely go in there without spending at least twice the amount I figured I would on different types of micro-brews. I could live with having that with me everywhere I go.

Living in Montreal and picking a school faculty is so ridiculous it hurts. Best city on earth with endless great bars, clubs and restaurants and you go with a music faculty?

How about Super Sex? How about ALL of St. Catherines? How about one of the million and one fetish clubs that blow anything outside of Europe away? How about Toque! or Europea? The Boris Bistro or L'Avenue? Man, you know what? If I had to move and take one part of Montreal with me, it'd be the whole fucking city. I love it.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I happen to be a hermit of sorts, so I really wouldn't miss much if I left this city. I'm here as a student and I intend to be gone as soon as I'm done, so being able to leave now and finish my studies back home would be just about the greatest thing for me. A big part of the reason I want to leave so bad is that I have two nephews and two nieces waiting for me in New Brunswick, and I can't say I enjoy not being there to see them grow up.

I pretty much quit going to bars on a regular basis a year or so before I moved here, so I haven't even been to most of the places you mentioned. I will admit that there are some pretty nifty breweries scattered throughout the city that I wouldn't mind having around when I leave. Brutopia comes to mind.

Brutopia is pretty much heaven, but I mentioned restaurants, not brew pubs. Do yourself a favour and hit them up. I promise wherever you go, you won't have food up to their level without going to New York or London. Just do yourself the favour, mate.

I just might do that, thanks for the recommendations. Although Europea looks a bit like it would be out of the student price range, The Boris Bistro looks rather intriguing, and I see after looking it up that I've actually been to L'Avenue twice before.

L'Avenue is a little hipster hang out, but man o man, is it fantastic. I love the Bistro, too. If you're lucky, they'll have their kobe beef burger on the menu when you get there. That thing is ridic.

Odd as it sounds, you know what I miss most about Montreal food now that I'm not there? Milk. You can't get good milk west of Quebec. I don't understand it.
