Nomination #25

Composer: Yoshiyuki Sahashi
Album: POPOROGUE Original Soundtrack
Track Title: Pietro's Journey (instrumental)
Track Number: 1-01
Year: 1998
Catalog Number: SVWC-7009
Additional Information: Call me crazy, but this is the only track from the soundtrack I am truly impressed with.

The journey to the FTP was filled with guitars and steel drums playing in melodic harmony~

I'm not sure why, but it's points time already.

"Traditional" point spread shall be used in this allocation
A whopping point trio: Fittest - Original Soundtrack - Morsecode
A very respectable pair of points: Namco Game Sound Express Vol.5 ~ Rolling Thunder 2 - WHERE IS THE TARGET? (ROUND 4)
Not as many points as the others, but still a point: Garou Densetsu SPECIAL ~ Image Album Part 2 - A New Poem That Southern Thailand Wants to Tell (Joe Higashi)

Also, I listened to that Rolling Thunder soundtrack about a day before that nom came in, and was considering nominating something from that myself. But I guess I was beaten to it.

"Traditional" point spread shall be used in this allocation
You know, guys, those point spread labels are for informational/satirical purposes only. You don't have to actually use them

Fittest - Original Soundtrack - Morsecode Neat and funky easy listening synth jazz. Cheesy at times, but nicely melodic and varied.

Garou Densetsu SPECIAL ~ Image Album Part 2 - A New Poem That Southern Thailand Wants to Tell (Joe Higashi) Not very poetic, or very Thai for that matter. It's innovative, but also hugely inconsistent and nigh annoying in spots.

Karanoshojo Original Sound Track "Azure" - Fairy's dance Not the sort of music I'd associate with fairies, but decent low-key salsa style meanderings nonetheless.

Leaf Piano Collection Vol.1 - Brand-New Heart -"To Heart" PC Version Opening- I love piano tunes, but this one was merely average all around. Okay melody, so-so arrangement and performance, and a feeling that it could have been a lot more entertaining.

Namco Game Sound Express Vol.5 ~ Rolling Thunder 2 - WHERE IS THE TARGET? (ROUND 4) Really wierd, alternating between something like late-era Mega Man music from the X series (which is to say competent but utterly anonymous) and a bizarre sort of synth swing. Neither part fits in with the other.

Pulstar - SEEN THROUGH (Stage 2 BGM) Promising, but ultimately doesn't go anywhere interesting.

RADIATA STORIES Arrange Album - HOPPING SUN I really like the way this works the original melody into something a lot more new-age, from the piano lead to the nice synth effects that give the piece a sort of dreamy atmosphere.

Tokimeki Memorial: Densetsu no Ki no Shita De (Game Rip) - Fireworks Interesting. Sort of a vague fusion of a quirky Earthbound-ish sound with an eastern atmosphere. I don't know that I liked it per se but it kept my attention.

The Point Spread
Hopping Sun - 3 pts.
Morsecode - 2 pts.
Fairy's Dance - 1 pt.

I like the new Voting Rules display and the titles are good but there are some spelling errors abound. Also, the rules summary should mention distributing 6 points to a minimum of 3 songs, with no song getting more than 3 points. (Right now it's a bit confusing and sounds like you're basically saying that last part twice.)

I enjoyed the fact that you named every possible point spread Orion. And since I wasn't rushing last minute to give out points, I could actually mess around with what I did, and gave your names some extra exposure.

What the heck am I gonna do the rest of the week now? I've already got my points out and my nom up to date. I feel empty inside.

There was a four note phrase at 1:06 of the Leaf track that made me think it was going to turn into an arrangement of the Zelda II town theme. I think that would have been a better development idea.

I was pretty close to giving a point to Fireworks, but A New Poem was so fantastically over the top that I had to give it a point. Fairly good week overall.

A decent week overall. Disappointed with "Fireworks" most of all---this is not my favourite version of the melody, that's for sure. Still not satisfied with the point spread even with a lack of ::nombias::. The Pulstar track snuck in due to the slick, icy groove.

Just Missed: Fairy's Dance

Quality songs this week. WHERE IS THE TARGET is yet another on the growing list of tunes that I never paid much attention to in great albums; it's good to see them appear. It would've gotten 2 points but Morsecode is some real class, it can't not get a point.
