Podcasts and you.

So I work late nights and listen to my mp3 player as I work work work, and have lately just been listening to an obcense amount of new music every night, but now I'm considering podcasting, if that's even a verb.

Anyshit, what podcasts do you guys listen to, or know somebody else listens to, or don't even listen to but would recommend anyways.

How ya doing, buddy?

I have a subscription to the Free Beer and Hot Wings Morning Show. Sadly, they aren't carried by any radio stations out here in LA, so I have to pick them up via podcast. They only charge something like $3 a month (which all goes towards the Joe's Stunts Fund), so I don't really mind having to pay for it, as it's a hell of a lot more entertaining than the $35 I used to pay for cable each month (and I get over three hours of great entertainment without commercials every day).

The show itself is a lot of low brow humor, but they never really go into shock jock territory where they try to just be edgy for the sake of being edgy. You need to listen for a little while to get a lot of what's going on, as there's a lot of running jokes and sayings that go on.

If anyone's interested in a snippet, I've got a few of my favorite segments saved that I could upload.

I'm not sure This American Life is considered a "podcast," but I listen to their weekly show via streaming at work, when I have time during the week.

There's a podcast here.

This American Life is a weekly hour long radio show that focuses on interesting stories about life. That's selling it short, though - I consider it to be pure audio gold, and one of the best podcasts anywhere. Some interesting stories I've heard on this show include an interview with a man who buys lottery jackpots for a living, a story that describes people starting (and failing horribly at) a business freezing dead bodies for resurrection in the future, and how a terrorist attack survivor got hounded by people from the Internets who didn't believe that the attack actually happened.

I also recommend Radio Lab, which is similar in format and tone as TAL, but is generally more focused on science and psychology. The episode about "Laughter", for example, had a great story about an epidemic of uncontrollable, convulsive laughter among young girls in Tanzania that spread through towns and forced the closure of schools.

Most amazing jew boots

I grab a bunch of comedy podcasts from radio shows over here in the UK. I'm currently subscribed to the following podcasts: Chris Moyles, Adam and Joe, Radio 4's Friday Night Comedy, Russell Howard and Jon Richardson (currently just Jon Richardson), and the Russell Brand show.

Given these are all provided by the BBC I don't know how available they are abroad. Of course they also include some very British senses of humour so how much they'll appeal could also be up for debate.

I've detailed which podcasts I've listened too over two journal entries (located here and here), so I won't go into all of them here.

But I'd say the highlights are the CAGcast and CAG Foreplay. Both podcasts are from cheapassgamer.com, and they work well together if video games are what you into. CAGcast gives you all the news from the previous week, while Foreplay gives you info on all the games coming out that week. They work best if you're into the CAG community, but even if you're not you can still get into them.
