Has global warming changed your work situation?
At the office where I work, a group of employees sends out e-mails, reminding everyone to remember to turn of the lights, screens and PCs off before leaving work.
I'd like to know if your workplace has changed in any way because of the global warming. Jam it back in, in the dark.
Thanks to Fjordor for the funny image!

My work is the most hypocritical workplace that I've ever seen as far as preventing this supposedly impending climate change. Our common room is plastered with pro environment signs and many lists of "helpful tips to reduce your carbon footprint", but we do not recycle our used beverage containers unless you take them home and do it yourself, we do not recycle paper, and we change the garbage bags everyday, even if they are almost empty. We have an industrial sized garbage bin full of almost empty, giant plastic bags which themselves are full of paper and the occasional Taco Del Mar cup. Arguing with the management has not resulted in anything short of getting laughed at or ignored, so I just sit it out.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I work at a recycling center.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I work at a garbage dump.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Honestly the people running the store I work at are so incompetent at times that I'm not sure how the store even runs efficiently. Needless to say they're far too stupid to be able to worry about the environment even if they wanted to.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
We turn the lights out when we leave a room empty, but that's more to save money than to save the environment.
But yeah, whateva. I try to ride my bike to work on mornings it's not so cold. It's only about a 3 mile ride down a busy road. I love riding my bike in a business casual shirt and tie while some hot chicks in their nice cars see my wimpy ride. ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
My work tried getting all the employees to bike once a week. Since I don't believe any one has the power to draw the sun closer to the earth, combined with record highs dating as far back as 1908 OH, not to mention predictions made by Al Gore in his ridiculous fear mongering slide show have had at least 30 holes poked in them showing them to be false, well you know kinda hard to believe, but less polution is good, so hey I bike every so often.
Jam it back in, in the dark.

Reason: Look ma, I'm warming the earth!!

My work has recycling set up for aluminum, polystyrene, separate things of paper, etc. The company shuttles are largely hybrids. The environmental concerns have been cared about, but they're not in your face with it.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Yes, global warming makes me sweat more when I work so the amount of water I drink has CHANGED very much indeed.
The topic is not about what the poll asks. Anyway, yeah, recycling is made easier nowadays. But not because of global warming, but because of common sense. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
There are tons of lights left on at night here, and agency policy requires that we never shut down our PCs, so that updates can be done overnight. Even though the technology exists, the agency (or my department at least) is not even close to being paperless, because the pre-internet generation can't grasp the technology.
All of this is especially sad when you realize that I work for the EPA. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
THAT'S BECAUSE THE EPA IS A SHAM ORGANIZATION WHOSE ONLY PURPOSE IS AS A LAUNDERING FIRM FOR CONGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!
Our office building raised the price of parking to encourage people to use public transportation, for the planet. Sometimes I hate mother earth so much. =( I was speaking idiomatically. |
Ahaha Radez that made my day.
Nobody seems to care one slightest bit about global warming at work so yeah... I hear Al Gore is making out with some sweet sweet global warming love though. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

On with the topic: I work two jobs, and both do different things to stay green. Unfortunately, only one does the cardboard recycling, but I'm working on it. Both have the same idea about energy. Thermostats are to be set no lower than 70 degrees, and energy-saving bulbs are used. FELIPE NO |
Now on with the topic, emloyers asking or even giving perks to employees to get them to ride to work is cutting down on polution and something employers do to move towards being green. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
So, what do they have you do at work?
Recycle? Turn off lights? What? What you do on your own time is your business. But what do you do at work while they are paying you to be "green?" Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I work at a manufacturing facility for electronics, so you can imagine the wastes they produce. There's recycle containers for cardboard and one for aluminum cans in the lunch room, but that's it.
The place is 24 hours, though since it's slow, they cut out some shifts; meaning that people leave SHITFUCKTONS of computers, manufacturing ovens and machines, and lights on alllll the time. I work and night doing floor maintenace and try and turn off monitors and desk lamps and other shit I can get away with without knowingly screwing up something. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I honest-to-goodness try at my work. There aren't many employees, and I bet you people can guess who wastes the most in the office. I am constantly turning off faucets that are left dripping in both the bathroom and in the kitchen area. Perpetually turning off lights that are left blazing in empty rooms for no good reason. I try to re-use backsides of paper (chopped in quarters) for notes instead of using too many post-its or throwing out paper and things like that. We don't have a paper recycling program in town, so it's up to us to do it. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Yeah, global warming fucked up everything, now I have to walk 10 yards (5 from my desk to the bin and back) to toss cans, and more 3 if they were on a plastic bag...
Aside from my own laziness, the whole building went on a global care spree sometime ago, all printers and photocopiers now use recycled paper, and not the good recycled, the one recycled like, 18 times... the darn thing is so yellow, yellow itself pales in comparison, the lights got changed, but most of the power sucking appliances are still there, and the building has a policy of no turning off computers, since everything is shared. But I guess recycling and selective bins are a start. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Oh hey I am with you 100%. I would rather people be educated on the benefits of being green, Cleaner air, water reusing stuff and saving money, fuel etc. Versus fear mongered by half cocked science. My work lets people leave an hour early from work on fridays for every day that person rides a bike. If a person signs a promise to bike durring the whole summer they get a buss pass free durring the summer. As far as while at work they use really crummy paper towels for the bathrooms!! What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Considering this time of year where I work most of the money is made in the garden department if it was getting warmer around here business would be booming. But it's been freakishly cold for this time of year and business is hurting >.>
How ya doing, buddy? |
The office I used to work in was a relatively new building. All the lights were on motion sensors so turned off when nobody was around. Water was heated by solar collectors on the roof for the main part and the building was designed to be very energy efficient so far as air con and heating went. My new place isn't quite so green but we turn everything off that we're not using, to save money as much as anything else. More profits = bigger bonuses so every little helps. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() ![]() |
Like recycling. You'd think it would be an easy process. Paper in paper bin, cans in can bin, something to that degree, right? NO. THERE'S RED TAPE on RECYCLING. Not to mention I've heard of some offices having ridiculously high fees for these sorts of things. (Like the shit being picked up, sorting fees, yadda yadda) This is why I just chop up paper and use the backside for notes. Good business sense? You'd would think so. But we live in the United States of America. Everything becomes fair game for the all mighty buck: even good sensibility. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
