Hey guys, in a few days (specifically, in sunday) I'm gonna purchase a new laptop, primarily I decided to buy laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo 1,67 ghz, but my friend said that Intel C2D is more suitable for these who need laptop for video and graphic editing, while I actually want a laptop for low-end 3D gaming (Heroes of Might and Magic V, specifically).
I was informed later if Amd Athlon x64 is also a good choice because AMD processors are optimized for gaming. All I know is, Intel Core 2 Duo using dual processor and synchronizing the cache to make the processor clock works twice faster (let's say 1,67 ghz means... 3,3 Ghz?), but how about the Amd Athlon themselves? Is it inferior technologically compared to Intel Core 2 Duo? At the moment, my friend recommended me to buy "Pressario V3804" or "Acer 4520", because they have nvidia graphic card, which will make the gaming process better. But honestly, I don't even understand whether the equipped graphic card could be considered good or bad. I 'm really a total noob for this hardware stuffs, I would really appreciate if someone could explain and giving me tips which products I should buy (and what I should aware before make) Thanks in advance ![]() How ya doing, buddy?

I am 99% sure that INTEL is optimized for gaming.

My sister has the 1.9ghz AMD x64 Turion in her HP laptop and it is sloooooooow. (It runs Vista Home Premium mind you and very hotly too).
Core 2 Duo is the way to go. What size laptop are you after???? Maybe we can recommend you one. Budget in $ or £ please. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

There is really no reason to recommend anything from AMD over Intel right now unless you are a total fanboy of AMD for whatever reason. The Duo Cores are awesome processors and trump the best AMD has to offer in performance by a large margin. Power consumption is also an issue with laptops and again the new C2D have AMD beat in that by a large margin. I don't even think AMD has a price advantage anymore but I admittedly have not looked at that aspect in a while.

@el roy
I actually need laptop for office purpose and decent 3d gaming (Let's say... Homm V). I allocate around $500-700. And I did research yesterday, and found out the Intel GMA 3100 is a crappy graphic card, I'm now looking if there is a laptop with a fairly good graphic card with affordable price ![]() I was speaking idiomatically.

Your best bet is one with the 8400m GT 128mb which is an introductory level DX10 graphics card.
I was going to recommend the new value range in the Vaio NR series laptop line but its probably out of your budget. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Intel is better. Though somewhat irrelevant, even though amd's quad core is a true quad core, Intel's quad is still better... the only benchmark I could find of phenom was vs an "equal" c2d and the c2d still outperformed it in some things LOL
edit: I suggest Custom Laptops by PowerNotebooks.com™ - Discount Custom Notebooks & Cheap Laptop Computers Dell etc are gay. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
just want to tell you guys, I have bought BenQ Joybook S41 for $929, it's equipped with Intel C2D and GeForve 8600m GS which is good enough to play most of the modern games. I actually still wishing to buy Vostro 1500, but since I couldn't possibly find it anywhere, it's the best deal I could get since it's priced $1500 in australia anyway.
Jam it back in, in the dark.

Honestly that seems like a decent rig for gaming. How much RAM?
There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Initially, it's only 512 mb DDR 667, I upgraded it into 1,5 gb. I think it's good enough already imo

With Vista a minimum of 2GB of RAM is recommended, 2x1024mb sticks or more.
