Busy week for me, so I'm gonna keep it short.

2 Points: Chibi-Robo Nintendo Official Guidebook + Soundtrack CD - Happy Birthday
2 Points: Batman The Video Game - Stage 4-1 ~Gotham City Streets 2~ & Stage 5 ~In the Sky Over Gotham City~
1 Point: Progression – Metroplex
1 Point: Touhou Shikouhana ~Seasonal Dream Vision~ - Illusionary Summer, Ghostly Summer

Average week - four tracks made me smile. Three were acceptable. One was entirely forgettable, as I tried to listen through twice and became distracted each time.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Just a reminder that we're back to a single week of voting.

Also, time to cap off my set of tracker noms with the next step: MIDI POWAR
  • Artist: John Stiles
  • Album/Game Title: Skittles (Game Rip)
  • Track Title: Victory Music
  • Track Number: 6
  • Year: 1996
  • Additional Information: Not to be confused with Skittles 2/Candy Crisis, which as music has a bunch of tracker modules by folks like Alexander Brandon that weren't written for the game. This is from the first version of the game, which has scant mentions on the intertubes. Take my word for all this information since I have the game on my hard drive, etc.
  • Source(s): http://web.archive.org/web/199905060...les/index.html, game files

Well Batman's my nomination, but man, that Stage 4-1/5 is a really good track. Especially if you consider the way Megadrive soundtracks sound sometimes (when the audio guy was lazy programming his FM), this is just really great. Naoki Nodaka rocks! <3 I'll definitely be nominating more by this underappreciated composer.

The next track I really enjoyed was Chibi-Robo's Happy Birthday. It's not spectacular, but it's fun and cheerful.

Most of the tracks this time around aren't so great, but then there's Necros' Metroplex. Although the "jazzy" side of 90s trackers hasn't aged that well in my opinion, Andrew is just a really skilful tracker and a huge influence on myself, and I still love everything he did (perhaps partially out of nostalgia).

I didn't particularly enjoy any of the other tracks. I thought zephyr was the tracker guy zephyr (Chris Micali), but I guess not.

3 points - Batman The Video Game - Stage 4-1 ~Gotham City Streets 2~ & Stage 5 ~In the Sky Over Gotham City~
2 points - Progression – Metroplex
1 point - Chibi-Robo Nintendo Official Guidebook + Soundtrack CD - Happy Birthday

I guess I fell for the jazzy side of this week's selection (with one exception).

(2 points) Batman The Video Game - Stage 4-1 ~Gotham City Streets 2~ & Stage 5 ~In the Sky Over Gotham City~
(2 points) Progression – Metroplex
(1 point) Chibi-Robo Nintendo Official Guidebook + Soundtrack CD - Happy Birthday
(1 point) milestone -dj TAKA- - Nageki no ki Arbre triste -a la viennoise-

My next nom:
  • Composer: Matt Furniss
  • Game/Album: Wiz 'n' Liz (Genesis Game Rip)
  • Track Title: Name Entry
  • Track Number: 26
  • Year: 1993
  • Source: MobyGames
I'll upload the track to the SotW server.

I was speaking idiomatically.

It's good to be back. Two songs stood out as better than average. Third-place was a near toss-up.

(3 points) Touhou Shikouhana ~Seasonal Dream Vision~ - Illusionary Summer, Ghostly Summer

This week was kind of a bust for me; apart from my own song none of the others really stuck out all that much to me (and I don't really think my own song is spectacular either!).

Nothing was OMG great, but I also thought this was a very solid week. I definitely enjoyed my 3 point-getters a good deal. Solid picks by whomever chose them. "Metroplex" and the Batman track were decent. The others sucked ass. :-D

My next nom:

Artist: Some people
Game: Zero Gunner 2 (Game Rip)
Track: Aerial Capital (Stage 7 part 1)
Year: 2001
Track #: n/a
Catalog #: yeah well what if I MADE ONE UP

Finally, a Zero Gunner 2 nom. I just recently came across a rip on VGMcentral. Aside from bare bones track titles, it's completely untagged, so the only info readily available is the year and the actual stage name. Can't find any info on composers, unfortunately.

1 Point ~ Batman The Video Game - Stage 4-1 ~Gotham City Streets 2~ & Stage 5 ~In the Sky Over Gotham City~

Mediocre selection this week, personally. Perhaps I'm just having some trouble getting back into the groove of Song of the Week since I haven't voted in far too long, but it seemed like a lot of stuff was borderline awesome and just didn't take the extra step. Metroplex clicked on the first listen, but it was tough to choose the other two from this batch.

Batman The Video Game - Stage 4-1 ~Gotham City Streets 2~ & Stage 5 ~In the Sky Over Gotham City~ This is better than the other tracks I've heard from this rip; the others made me question why it was so popular, while this is nice enough that I can see it.

Battle Garegga Perfect Sound Track - Subversive Awareness (Stage5 – Cloud) Pretty average. I had to re-play it, since I couldn't recall a single note afterwards (and, indeed, didn't even notice that it had stopped playing).

Chibi-Robo Nintendo Official Guidebook + Soundtrack CD - Happy Birthday I always thought this game looked exceptionally silly, but that's not reflected in the song, which has some nice jazzy piano licks.

Far East of Eden Zero Shounen Jump no Shou - Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword I remember this game from the old romhacking sites; it was one of two that needed a ton of hacking to decompress its graphics (along with Star Ocean). It's decent militaristic SNES stuff, but far from the best of that style on the platform.

milestone -dj TAKA- - Nageki no ki Arbre triste -a la viennoise- More jazz, but this is from the chaotic improv-style school that I just can't stand.

Progression – Metroplex Techno-groove. Pleasant, but boring.

Touhou Shikouhana ~Seasonal Dream Vision~ - Illusionary Summer, Ghostly Summer Some okay synth bits, but what was up with the sampled Darth Vader breaths and melodramatic Asian fiddle out of nowhere?

www. zephyr. dti. ne. jp ~deadtech Like the finger piano, and there are some lively parts that sound a tiny bit Earthbound-esque, but the whole thing just felt kind of flat most of the time.

Last week was extremely good, so this week was bound to feel a little flat by comparison.

The Point Spread
Happy B-day - 3 pts.
Batman - 2 pts.
Deadtech - 1 pt.

Interesting week. Here's how I voted:

(2 points) Touhou Shikouhana ~Seasonal Dream Vision~ - Illusionary Summer, Ghostly Summer

(2 points) DTI ¥æ¥Ó¥.¥¿¥¹¥×¥í¥Ð¥¤¥À ~deadtech - Naven

(1 point) Progression - Metroplex

(1 point) milestone -dj TAKA- - Nageki no ki Arbre triste -a la viennoise-

"Metroplex" was neat but felt like it was missing something for me and would have otherwise gotten more points.

SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?

Congrats to to the transforming megacity with huge turrets and missile pods! (I admit it still doesn't have that extra punch for me :P)

Not sure if it's possible to post my next nomination (which isn't due for a while, I think). It took some time to decide on it but here's a dash of my esoteric tates. It's bound to get minimalistic and ambient blacklistings. :P It'a apparently a Koei arranged album. Makes me sad that I'm not working in Koei.

* Album Title: The Gate of Souls ~ From Dante's Divine Comedy
* Artist: h.y.y.m.
* Composers: Hiori Wakakuwa, Yoshiyuki Itou & Masumi Itou (hence h.y.y.m.)
* Track Title: Wise Man's Hill
* Source: http://www.slightlydark.com/forums//...hp/t-2952.html ; Game Music Revolution
* File Location: Nominations folder
* Disc Number: 1 (of 1)
* Track Number: 3
* Catalogue Number: KECH-1025
* Year: 1992
