Why would I buy an Eee PC? and put linux on it??

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

What do you think of this, anon?

I want to buy this little devil...and for some reason put linux on it, but I don't know why. It's an impulse, I've heard good things.

I want to be a web designer, so yeah

Can anyone tell me what's so good about linux?

Stability? User Friendly? compatibility? programming options?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The eeePC already comes with Linux on it, you dumbass.

Way to fail at reading tech news for the past 5+ months.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I don't know. There's something really attractive about its small size, but the black borders around the screen and the price rub me the wrong way.

And Linux? Why don't you try it yourself?

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

This thing is such a horrible choice for most applications... let alone web design. Between the minuscule screen and Linux OS, you're boned two ways from Tuesday. Why would you wanna destroy your eyesight while trying to code sites or do pixel-perfect tasks in Photosh-- wait, the GIMP, lulz. If the thing could run Windows, it'd be tons more useful. It's aimed towards a more multimedia-obsessed fanbase, and I think it'll do it's job reasonable well there.

I was speaking idiomatically.

The Eee is an interesting conundrum. I hear a lot of people say they're going to buy it because it's small and convenient. Small and convenient at doing what?

It can play music, but so can my cheap DAP and the DAP probably holds more music. It can play movies, but so can my laptop and I wouldn't watch a movie on the Eee's tiny screen. It can view the internets, but why wouldn't I use my laptop?

The Eee seems to be the jack of all trades, but seems to do nothing well. I've heard people say that it'd be nice to have a tiny laptop present to do task X, but I can always do X with my current laptop, with more comfort. I think the main reason Eee is getting buzz is because it's cheap for its form factor. Most tiny laptops are more expensive than their 17" cousins. I believe that an Eee is a gadget and not a useful device or tool.

For 400 USD, I'd get a iPod Touch. It's 8GB, plays music and video (on a tiny ass screen) and can surf the internet. And it's 100 USD cheaper. Heck, I can get a decent laptop, $15.4 screen, Core 2, 1~2 GB RAM for 550 USD from Dell, HP, Acer, etc etc.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Yes, but can an iPod Touch run PS CS2?
eeePC 開 Photoshop CS2 同開張 2500 x 1600 的JPG

Granted, you'd have to upgrade the ram, but seeing as you can get 4GB for <$100 nowadays, it's not really an issue.

Most of the hype is really about modding and hacking all sorts of cool stuff, IE

No, but I wouldn't run a program like Photoshop on a tiny screen either.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
