Soul Calibur Legends

Action game just announced for the Wii: http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/s...;picks;title;1

I wonder if it will be standard hack & slash fair, or if it will contain some unique elements. At any rate, a solid title in this vein would help round out the Wii's library genre-wise.

This could be a lot of fun. I like action-RPGs with leveling elements added to them. Marvel Ultimate Alliance did it a bit, but I'd imagine Soul Calibur can do it even better.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

It'll probably end up like Death by Degrees with my luck. That game looked good before it came out too. It also didn't play half bad, it was the technical stuff that killed it though.

I think that I'll have high hopes but low expectations for this SoulCalibur game just because of DBD.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I became a fan of SC after SC2 on the gamecube so I'm looking forward to some more news at E3. I am a bit of a mitsurugi fan though so I wish there was a story mode for a few characters instead of just Siegfried with a few cameos.

Siegfried is the only playable character right? It would have been nice if there were a few more. The screen shots certainly look nice though.

Nope, I believe Mitsurugi and Taki, and maybe Ivy are playable too. Also, the development team said they haven't revealed the entire cast yet, although that could just mean that they are including more as NPCs (which Astaroth seems to be at the moment, since he seems more like a boss battle than anything).

Siegfried is the MAin Character and the other characters that you choose from to fight at your side (!P - Swap characters, 2P - CO-OP) are the supporting character with possibly their own extra story bits.

That information is what I have gathered between 1UP and IGN. Further details have yet to be expanded upon.

Oh man, the trailer looks pretty sweet. I'm now not too concerned that Mitsurugi isn't the main character because it looks fun to play as any of them. I think this game can have potential, that boss looks great to chop down.

The game kind of looks old but the gameplay might be good. We'll have to see.

Well this will have to go a long way to be as bad as the piss poor Mortal Kombat Mythologies at least. I personally feel the series has gone steadily downhill since the original Soul Edge which remains one of the greatest fighters of all time. I really hope this turns out ok, rather than being the final nail in the coffin.

Wow. Can someone tell me why the poster above me has a brain.

Of course Soul Calibur is the pinnacle of 3-D fighting. Calibur 2 was a playable but unworthy sequel, and 3 was just embarassing. 4 looks like it will be ok, but only because the graphics look amazing, along with the inclusion of big ass titties, which will obviously give the 360 three red rings after they sway a couple of times.

Oh, and Legends will obviously be lame as hell, but will at least elaborate on the mythology.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with Megalith for the most part. My opinion is;

-Best-
SC1
SC3
SE
SC2
-Worst-

But hey, at least we all agree that SC2 sucked so that's got to mean something.

But yeah, as far as Legends goes I pretty much agree with Megalith that it's going to be passable gameplay to get us through the story events.

Besides, we all know that 80% of Wii games are cash ins, so it's not like anyone has high expectations.

It actually doesn't look that bad. I mean, at least they're trying to use the Remote in a constructive way.

It'll probably play like every other action game though, which isn't a bad thing either.

IMO, SC2>SC3=SC1, but it's a real close match; I just prefer SC2's lightning-fast pace. What's for sure is SC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SE/B... which was bloody awful. Sure it was the first, sure it had weapon breaks and the clash, but there's virtually no depth, no combos, no gameplay, just mash mash mash canned strings aplenty. Good music doesn't make up for it. Don't kid yourself.

SC3 was too buggy, for its own good, Not to mention the data corruption issues, the vc cancel, inputs not always registering within the game its self. SC3 is the worst. Sc2 is better then SC3 cause it doesn't have like this. Not to mention the character balance issues. Even though Sc2 had the same kinda character balance issues, the system in SC2 is better eseintally anyways, no vc. I'm expecting SC4 to horrible, I'll still buy it and try it and see if they actually fixxed anything. Man, SC3 was extremely bad. For me, from playing of the Soul series for awhile now. So from what I've seen and experienced SC> SC2>SE (tekken 2 with weapons, pretty much)>SC3>SC3:Arcade. But if your going content, Sc3 had all those modes within, Tales of Souls, and what not, but what do you expect for something that never went to arcades. Til after it went to console and that version is still not that good either.

hmm.. from the look of the gameplay. It seems like its kinda like ninja gaiden. Well I guess I'll check around and see if I hear any good things, around the time of its release.

SC3 IMO was way too rushed. Sure Siegfried isn't Nightmare anymore but what was with chopping nightmares power down 3/4's of what it was?

Yeah, but Nightmare's speed is like 3X what it's ever been so I don't think you can complain about being 1/4 weaker when you can perform almost twice as many moves in the same time it used to take to do 1.

Also SC2, battle system asside was easily the worst IMO. The PS2 had the best controls but MAJOR framerate issues. The GameCube simply has a shitty controller. And the X-box ran fine, but the controller was not as good as the PS2 and not as bad as the GC. Therefore unless you had an arcade stick for the X-box or GameCube the game was a pain to play.

As for SC3 being buggy, all I can say is that I've never had as many issues with 3 as I did with 2.

As for the SC3 save file issue, you just had to make the save file the first on your memory card. After that you were fine.

Man you have no fucking idea what your talking about....before you speak actually say something that actually means something. For no.1 the ps2 version of SC2 was CLEARLY the better fucking version of the game. This bullshit ass community doesnt know shit about fighting games. NO ONE in competitive gameplay standards used ANYTHING other than the PS2 version of SC2. SC3 is a HORRIBLE fucking game because of the fact that the game is WAY more buggy than SC2. VC cancels were CLEARLY broken and easy to exploit. If you never ran against it that simply means you have extremely shitty competition. Learn about what your speaking of before you speak.

Learn proper grammer and try again.

"Learn about what your speaking of before you speak."
It's "Learn what you're talking about before you speak."

Secondly the Soul Calibur series is mostly a leisure fighting game. And even though it still has a good turn out at EVO every year, the fights have never been taken as seriously as Street Fighter, Tekken, or Virtua Fighter... so who cares which one is ACTUALLY better. Just play the damn thing and stop waving your fanboyistic SC2 banner about would ya.

I hope they don't fuck it up like Death By Degress and actually put a good story in it with senseless killing. ~crosses fingers~

I'll definately be getting this if Ivy is playable.

On the SC2 vs SC3 topic, I also liked 3 better. I know 3 had it's balance issues but SC2 to me really felt too much like SC1 with extra characters. 3 had enough stuff added to it that it felt like a better sequel to me. Also in SC2, anyone could pick Raphael and just do his attack where he does a double thrust with his rapier till they win. My friend referred to it as the "B B B B B B I WIN!" strategy.

Wow, I didn't think anybody still lost to that gimmick. Thats something really simple to avoid.

What about Sc3's tech traps? Variable Cancel is another thing, a big thing IMO. Most SC2 had with it was Necrid (broken) and the flakky ringouts, characters holding on to the edge of the ring with there head? 2G wasn't as bad it seems. The step may been toned down, but Sc3 movemment felt very similiar to SC. CAS was fun, but the gameplay seemed kinda lacking.

edit: I hope they plan on having more then the number of playable characters in SC: Legends then they have. Cause more I look at it. Doesn't seem its worth buying a Wii for. I'm pretty if it does have hidden characters the'll certainly be not worth playing the game to open. One thing that I don't like off the bat were the 1st 3 characters I saw.

edit2: found out today that Sophie (She's 18 like after Soul Edge age), a younger Sophie is a playable character now my interest is kinda sparked a little.

Bumping a dead thread for Namco tomfoolery!

Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia is now a playable character (?!) If only they put Mr. Driller in there! Seems to be shaping up pretty well, I don't really care about the SC fighting games, but mindless beat 'em ups are in drastic need of good. They mostly all sucked last generation. Spikeout was pretty okay (because it dared to use environments other than shit warehouse, shit back alley, shit garbage dump at night!) and Final Fight Streetwise was fun if you blocked out the fact that it had the Final Fight name slapped across it!

Oh wait Soul Calibur. Yeah. You like.. use the Wii controller.. to.. kill.. things. Maybe it'll have music and stuff. 10/10! Can't wait!

Thats very easy to stop, you can duck those first 2 hits or GI the 3rd hit. I'm a competitive SC player, sc3 is too buggy but people still play it regardless, they ban VC for the tournaments now. sc2 had a way bigger community and competition. Hopefully 4 will.
