Justice League Movie?

http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=102605

Quote:
WARNER BROS STARTS JUSTICE LEAGUE FILM PROJECT

Holy cow, Batman.

As comic book movies have proliferated over the past few years, comic fans have begun to wonder – when will we start seeing the team-based films? As Marvel’s X-Men films have shown, putting more than one super-powered character into a film can work…but what about the icons joining up?

Possibly sooner than expected.

According to Variety Warner Bros. is looking to produce a Justice League movie, and has hired Kiernan and Michele Mulroney to pen the script. After rumors of a possible Batman vs. Superman film this is the first actual news that the studio is looking to make a feature based on more than one hero.

As the trade reported/speculated, such a film would certainly include some blend of DC Comics’ iconic heroes, rather than wholly B-listers.

"The Justice League of America has been a perennial favorite for generations of fans, and we believe their appeal to film audiences will be as strong and diverse as the characters themselves," Warner President of production Jeff Robinov said in announcing the hiring of the Mulroneys.

As Variety mentioned, and fans will surely begin to discuss, such a film has many complicating issues inherent, such as cast – will Warner Bros, if they include Superman and Batman in the mix, cast Brandon Routh and Christian Bale – their current Superman and Batman, or will they re-cast the roles for this project (as each approach would come with budgetary considerations)? Will the film version of the Justice League be connected to the heroes’ solo films? Where does the film take place in the heroes’ lives, and the team's timeline? How will a Justice League film coordinate among all of the production teams working on the various individual properties?

While the Justice League has starred in a handful of their own animated television series over the years, the idea has been tested out in a live action manner, in Warners’ Smallville, which has featured a growing list of other young heroes (Green Arrow, Cyborg, Flash, Aquaman, along with a young Superman) in guest appearances, which culminated in the episode entitled “Justice.”

If the potential problems can be hammered out, the inclusion of a Justice League film franchise would add a major player to Warner Bros. superhero film slate, which already has a Batman sequel set for a 2008 release, and a Superman sequel for 2009, with Wonder Woman trying to get off the starting blocks.

And of course, the Justice League may not be the only team in town – Marvel has previously announced their intent to produce a film based on it’s premiere super-team, The Avengers. Although, Marvel has said it would like to see an Avengers film occur after Iron Man, Thor and Captain America have their own individual film franchises launched.

The Batman vs. Superman movie should have come first and had a better chance of being a real blockbuster. It's too soon to do up a Justice League. Establish the heavyhitters as real properties first, THEN you can assemble them for even heavier hits. As of now, people are just gonna chuckle about this being some "Superfriends the Movie."

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I don't care as long as the Flash is in it and they don't use Hal Jordan as their Green Lantern.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I would love one after how Smallville's version turned out. Flash and Green Arrow kicked ass the most, but Cyborg was cool as well. Aquaman is decent, but can only be so good. The actor wasn't as great as the others really.

Batman vs Superman. Hell no.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Cool. Casting will be interesting. I just hope they have fun with the movie and not get too serious.

If they make a Justice League movie, including Superman and Batman in the mix might cause some confusion. I mean, when the Batman sequal comes out and he is getting his ass beat, fans will say "why doesn't Batman call his friends in the Justice League?" And I think that having Superman in a team might be over-powering, none of the other heroes will be anywhere as powerful as he is. He kicks enough ass on his own.

They should make it Flash, Green Lantern, maybe Hawkman, Black Canary and the popular second stringers.

What they should do, is make a "Dark Knight Returns" movie. That would rock!

Note for the comic book noobs: the JLA roster has traditionally been filled with the DC universe's most powerful earth heroes: the Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Superman, Aquaman. Batman and Green Arrow are less powerful, but still important members of the group (or were at one or more points in their careers).

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Of course, in the comic books it is easier to portray super powerful heroes, but in the movies they tend to make them more human and not as powerful.

I just don't think a screenwriter will be able to make a good movie with Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, ect. all working together. I think they might use less powerful characters, so that people can identify with them more.

Honestly, I don't think that a movie with a lot of characters with huge mythologies, like Batman, Superman, any Green Lantern will work...

But, if they want to use them, the main villain is going to be one of the Superman crew, and the other ones will just follow the villain's orders.

I just hope they can get the pacing right. I mean we're talking about more than 2 heroes here, so it will be hard to get equal screen importance for all of them.

But I'm one of many that hope they can pull this off flawlessly.

Sounds cool. Personally, I'd like to see Paul Dini write this, though (he has a talent for making totally awesome, self-contained DC hero stories.)

I think it might be hard to pull off though. Even considering some of the more classical builds of the Justice League, most people wouldn't know who a lot of the heroes are (Green Lantern and Flash, while they're totally awesome, just don't have the same iconic power behind them as Supes or Bats outside of the comic community.) What would probably happen, then, is that each of those lesser known heroes would have to get at least some setup of who they are; with at least five heroes in there, that'd be at least an hour of setup before the main story even gets started.

I hope they pull it off; that'd be a godawesome movie.

How ya doing, buddy?

Showtime.
