DDR SuperNOVA2

It's so pretty~

Nothing playable shown and all that we have so far is a logo, but as far as I know, it's an arcade update as well as a PS2 release in september.

We may have more info and screens and maybe songs tomorrow maybe. o_O The US console version will more than likely have all of the songs we didn't get from the arcade SN and maybe the online-only songs as offline; I hope MAX.(period) is there as a boss song though.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Aww.... And my arcade promised that we'd get a SuperNOVA in our arcade last October... And what is it, February now? All we got is a fucking EXTREME machine again...

But awesome that they're coming out with another arcade version. It's a good sign that there's still some life in the arcade scene.

Here's to no sync problems~!

I think the arcade I used to go to closed down. Whenever my cousins would have birthday parties there, I'd use the DDR machines. I don't know if everything's still there though. I'm too lazy to drive there and check
I never played SuperNova. I always wanted to, but I never got the chance. The last one I bought was DDR Extreme, and that wasn' a good idea.

I can't wait for supernova 2, but I have to stop being lazy and by supernova.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

http://www.konami.jp/bemani/ddr/jp/am/sn2/

Site's up, shows a couple screens as well..

Love the new songwheel; score screen seems a bit boring though.

Graphics in-song look the same, even though the Afro thing on the right is kinda of odd.

And we finally get Yuni as a character~

Yeah, the result screen does look pretty damn sloppy. Letters need to be more cyber-like.

The theme could be a little more darker, like SN1 was, but I've seen worse.

It looks like, and this is just my theory, that Honey Punch is back, as well as an AC debut for Soul Crash. Now, if they could just get Silver Platform and Baby's Tears (Sky Girls Theme (with anime OP vid)), then that'd be sweet.

As far as characters go... just keep Rage, and I'm happy. Sure, maybe add PiX, but just keep Rage.

As far as BG graphics... I'm willing to bet they're slightly reverting to some older animation engines they used to use in older mixes, but I'm sure the dancers will still be dancing on flashing stages most of the time.

How ya doing, buddy?

What I would do to have at least the EXTREME machine back at our arcade, all we have is the 'In the groove'. The arcade staff say that SuperNOVA will be replacing it, but it hasn't happend yet. I just think they said that just to stop the outcry for a actual DDR machine.

So much has happened with SuperNOVA 2 since the crash, so lemme see if I can remember enough to update you guys, if you haven't been keeping up, that is.

Soul Crash, Baby's Tears (Sky Girls), and Flow (Jammin Reggae) have been confirmed, it looks like. And for once, the ES and OMES aren't MAXes.

Extra Stage: Unreal

One More Extra Stage: NGO

I hope I didn't mix them up. That's just what I remember seeing on some Japanese site Konami set up.

SuperNOVA 2 was supposed to be set up for a location test at the same place that IIDX GOLD was set up, but it was canned last week for unknown reasons at this time.

Perhaps they're still working out a few bugs and adding more Crossovers.

Konami, if this is the case, just put AGEHA, TAIYO, EXE, Pandora, ULTIMATE, and Awakening, and I'll be damn happy. Of course, there are more I'd like to see, but meh, can't be too hopeful.

And a friend and I were discussing this recently, but I also wanted to get your opinions. Do you guys think that Konami has been ripping on themes lately?? For instance, we were talking about how SuperNOVA's color scheme for the marquee and title screen looked somewhat familliar to that of Pump Zero's, and SuperNOVA 2's schemes looked like they were ripped from Pump New Xenesis.

I really like the blue theme they have going for this game. As for everything else, I'm going to reserve judgement until I play a full version. I hate that they cancelled the location test, considering it's only fifteen minutes from my house. I guess it wasn't ready yet, so as long as a good product comes out of this, I guess this can be forgiven.

The blue theme does look nice. Frankly, I couldn't care of people think they're ripping off of Pump games as of late. It looks pretty damn good.

Oh, some new info popped up recently.

It will have over 50 new songs.
It will have carefully selected licenses and mentions "super popular" North American songs as licenses.
KONAMI originals will be developed with the idea that it will be "fun to play" by popular BEMANI artists; all players' expectations and expected to be met reasonably.
It will include more songs from past Dance Dance Revolution games.

Battle Mode
A new feature known as "Team Battle" will be avaliable as a series of events that will be held regularly over a long period of time.
DDR players can organise into "teams" and can battle each other.
There was some e-amusement stuff, but only Japan does e-amuse.

If they're adding more OLD songs, that could be a good sign. At least if it's more stuff from 4th and 5th Mix, mainly 4th.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh Jesus, thank you. Let's get some obscure ones we haven't seen in ages. Especially songs from 4th and 5th Mix.

But I could only wonder, by their terms, what are "super popular" North American songs? <_<

I could only imagine what they're gonna put in. And they better be good.

Ha! Licenses in America for me that should matter tend to be the trance songs they put from actual DJ's like Darude, Paul Van Dyk, 4 Strings, and Ian Van Dahl, since I don't know if Golden Gate's "Take It To The Morning Light" was a license or KO.

Frankly, though, I don't expect too many licenses if there're only 50 new songs confirmed right now, because they still have to add some KO's, Crossovers, and new CS Exclusives, and they've already filled 12 slots from what we can tell.

I swear, if they put Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy in there, it's gonna be a love/hate thing.

I love the steps, I hate the fact if we actually DO get this machine, we'll have a bunch of punk rock noobs playing DDR. <_<

I already have a buncha those playing the shitfest songs on SuperNOVA. Believe me, with something like that added to SN2, it couldn't get too much worse for me.

But frankly, I doubt Dance, Dance will be in SN2. They tend to NOT bother using licenses more than once. I think it's a money issue or something. Otherwise, all the asshole n00bs would have begged for Since U Been Gone and Crazy In Love by now.

It's not like me to bump 2-month-dead threads, but thanks to E3, or more like thanks to the location test in Illinois going on right now, we have some confirmed songs for SuperNOVA2.

Quote:
Licenses
Unbelievable / EMF
COME CLEAN / NM featuring Susan Z
SUNRISE (JASON NEVINS REMIX) / Duran Duran
My Favorite Things / SLOTH MUSIC PROJECT feat. ALISON WADE
FAINT / PEGASUS
Burn Baby Burn / SLOTH MUSIC PROJECT feat. ANDY L
AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH / SLOTH MUSIC PROJECT feat. MPLAYA
WAITING FOR TONIGHT / P.A.T
ME AGAINST THE MUSIC / HELEN
Two Months Off / TECHNO MASTERS

New songs
Electrified / SySF.
Silver Platform -I Wanna get your heart- / U1 Reincarnates w/Leah
Flow (Jammin' Ragga Mix) / Scotty D. revisits U1
Raspberry <3 Heart (English Version) / jun feat. Paula Terry
Baby's Tears (SKY GIRLS Opening theme) / RIYU KOSAKA
Why Not, / Darwin
Fly Away -mix del Matador- / Shawn the horny master feat. ChiyoTia
Vem brincar / Caldelra feat. Teka Penteriche
SOUL CRASH / nc ft HARDCORE NATION
Feelings Won't Fade (Extend Trance Mix) / SySF.
Freeway Shuffle / dj TAKA
Star Gate Heaven (Future LOVE Mix) / SySF. feat. Donna Burke
Music In The Rhythm / nc ft. Electric Touch
Trim / Kobo

Boss songs
volcano / Yasuhiro Abe
Unreal / Black Rose Garden
NGO / Keiichi Nabeshima

volcano is selectable only on your final stage. This plays out basically like another Dragon Blade; same type of steps, and about the same BPM.

AAing this gives you the Extra Stage, Unreal. You can select your mods, or a different song, for the extra stage. You also have an oni-mode style lifebar (1-4 lives). How many lives you get, though, depends on...something. I'm not quite sure what. I've gotten all 4 lives twice for the song, but for the most part I got 3. This song has a lot of jumps.

AAing Unreal gets you the OMES (it's called ENCORE EXTRA STAGE now), NGO. You have to AA Unreal to get to NGO, not just a pass. You can't select your mods (default mods enabled, 1x etc.), however, you can select another song if you wish. It's still the usual OMES, with one combo break or dropped hold failing you.
Wow, so they're going back to MAX-EXTREME rules for OMES... doesn't matter to me. I've never been able to pass HDV, FAXX, or FELM, not to mention, respective 10's on older mixes that would get you OMES. I'll just play them once I either unlock them on SN2 CS or when they're sim'd for StepMania.

They're also apparently changing the lifebar system for Extra Stage. You'll be playing with Oni batteries, and the better you do on your Final Stage determines how many bars you get.

950,000 - 969,000 = 1 battery
970,000 - 979,000 = 2 batteries
980,000 - 989,000 = 3 batteries
990,000 - 1,000,000 = 4 batteries

Well, it does seem pretty hard to get 4 batteries, but hey, I'm sure there are thousands by now who can do it, excluding me. Of course, I could do it on a song other than volcano.

Quote:
Marvellous grading is present in normal gameplay. The scoring for Marvelous and Perfects is slightly different. Perfects seem to be worth Marvelous minus 10 points. And yes, you can achieve a AAA grade with greats. 999000 is the cutoff for a AAA, and 950000 is still the cutoff for a AA. 1000000 is assumed to be the max score. There is no word on whether a AAAA exists or not. When you get all Marvelous/Perfects on a song, you still get a AAA, but with "Full Perfect Combo" below the grade.
Great... more hard work. lol. I have to work hard to keep my PA up, now I have to work on MA. C'mon, Konami, leave that shit in Nonstop/Challenge Mode. I know I use it on StepMania, but I use a keyboard, not my pad, which I should.

Well, that's all I have from sources. I'm sure more will develop in the upcoming days, mainly due to the location test.

Actually, I'm surprised they're RE-using a license. That's not usually Konami's style.

However, IMO, Come Clean was actually one of the few SN CS licenses I could stomach. Sure, the original song, like its original singer, sucks massive amounts of horse dick, but the remix was pretty good.

Anyone know when the final version of this game is coming out? I've played the location test in IL (I live about ten minutes from it) and despite the system and theme being an improvement over SuperNOVA, the song selection totally SUCKS ASS. I seriously had to force myself to play all the "new" songs, half of which are available on the home version of SuperNOVA. Also, how the songs are categorized is a bit odd at the moment. The songs are put under their respective title supposedly ala the one categorizing option in DDR Extreme, but it's a bit messed up. All they have for the categories is MAX, MAX2, Extreme and SuperNOVA. While MAX, MAX2 and SuperNOVA seem to have their respective songs there (sorta), the Extreme category has like...all the songs you'd find from 1-7th mix, PLUS Extreme. Most of the songs are in there.

The theme is nice, though. I like the blue, even though it's really only on the promo art and whatnot (the backgrounds in the game I don't really remember too well). The fact that you can pick your character before you get to the song wheel was also pretty cool. A lot more songs have videos instead of dancers now (a good thing in my opinion), but to the credit of the dancing characters, they do seem to have more animations and facial expressions than in SuperNOVA. Also, actual drawn pictures of your character's face will flash across the screen every once in a while, and I thought that was a nice touch.

The battle mode...I didn't play. It seems to play out exactly how it did in the home version of SuperNOVA though, complete with the other announcer. You can play against someone else or against a computer, and unlike the home version of SuperNOVA, both dancers are onscreen at once.

Anyway, that's my opinion on the game. I took pictures but they all suck due to being on a camera phone. In all honesty, there's not much being missed. =\ It was okay to drive ten minutes there, but people in different states definitely shouldn't drop what they're doing to come check it out. Hopefully it'll be out soon with a (vastly) expanded songlist.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I sure hope one of my local arcades buys a cabinet of this. The only Supernova we have around here is an upgrade from an Extreme that was upgraded from a 3rd Mix Plus, so it's definitely seen better days.

And now that they've fucking axed In The Groove, I wish they'd add handplants to the step charts.

You're right. As awesome as Chimera is, the charts are stupid. I tried Hard a few nights ago, and I got worn out right after the slowdown (which killed me, even at 2x).

I watched the special interview video from gametactics.com, and they were saying they licensed a buncha tracks from today's "hot artists". Yeah, maybe they were hot 10-12 years ago. Nowadays, they're nothing but washouts who desperately need money.

While I'm on the subject... Faint sounds HORRIBLE!!!!! That right there is one of the WORST licenses I've EVER heard.
