Magic Knight Rayearth (Saturn) - Reply here if you've played it

http://www.gamespot.com/saturn/rpg/m...magic%20knight

I found this game at a local video game store for 20 bucks but did not buy it. It's one of the few Saturn games that I did not buy that could be worth it. However, gamespot says 5.1/10.

I wonder if I should risk it.

Please give me a review of the gameplay if you've played it. Other discussion on this game welcome.

Thanks!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

20 dollars complete? I'd say go for it. I think I paid 50 or 60 for a sealed copy of the game 2 years ago. The game is alright. The only thing that kept me playing to the end was the translation, since I'm a big fan of WD translations. The gameplay is like your typical traditional overhead action RPG. And the soundtrack is horrible. =x

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Gameplay matters highly to me. If the gameplay isn't good enough, I will not buy it even if the storyline gets a 9 out of 10.

Can you tell me what kind of moves, abilities, magic, etc?

What is your opinion of it then? Compare it to other Action RPG's and lemme know what's better.

This thread will help my decision to get it or not.

How ya doing, buddy?

*sigh*

Magic Knights Rayearth... the last Saturn game to ever be released on US shores, and I coughed up that 80 bux for it back then, got the Hikaru disc so I was satisfied with that (there were three different discs, one for each girl).

The soundtrack was kind of crappy, aside from them retaining the opening song for the series (although it was in dubbed form, both plain and dramatic vocal versions o_O). Gameplay wise it is seriously just another Action RPG :P

You don't gain levels though, so think of it like a Zelda game with animu people. Rayearth is basically the same way, and the story is somewhat similar to the manga... so if you are a fan of the series you would probably like the game.

As far as moves are concerned everyone has a regular attack and a charge attack (you have to get that later), and some magic spells, and they can jump and swim (learned later). There's not that much else to it, it's a rather straightforward game with a few bonus content (Outtakes and the like), and some of the diary entries are just amusing to listen to.

Like most anime games though, it is either something you would like as a fan of the series, or something that would just bother you otherwise. Since it's an ActionRPG though, you wouldn't have to deal with the hassle that most of these anime rpgs seem to have (insanely huge random battle encounters with no adjustment factor).

Well, I loved the game. If you like the Rayearth universe, you should definitely get it.
The game itself is quite simple and easy. Graphics are relly good and I loved the voice acting...yeah I like Working Desings voice actors.

Despite the game being easy and simple, I found it fun to play. The characters are very lovable. As always the outakes are pretty funny.

I was speaking idiomatically.

How addicting or fun is it to kill enemies?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I own a Saturn and this is one of the only domestic games I own for it. It's a tad short (15-20 hours, IIRC), but I think it actually tells the story better than the anime its' based on, and the episodic progression is a definite strength, since each scenario is done so well. Plus...It's fun. Not TOO difficult, but can be a challenge in places. Think traditional Zelda/Ys VI mechanics with multiple characters.* Lastly, the Working Designs translation/localization is spot-on.

I'd give it 9.5/10. It's definitely a classic and is a rare mix of strong storyline/character development with equally strong gameplay. I really should replay it sometime.

*Definitely not better than Zelda 3, but I'd say it's about equal with Ys VI, which is pretty good.

I enjoyed the game. I played the Japanese version though so I can't comment on the quality of the English voices.

The gameplay is like Zelda. Only you have 3 girls you can switch between on the fly and they each have different magic spells based on their elements Wind, Water, Fire. 3 spells each. They each use a different type of weapon. There's puzzles in the game to figure out using the girls ablities. Like using arrows to hit an object out of reach. I enjoyed that. Some cool looking bosses in the game. For $20 I'd jump all over it for the English version and buy a Saturn again.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
