Starting on March 24th, 2006 in San Jose, California, Video Games Live will become the first video game concert to tour the world! And what better place to start than the “official birthplace” of video games… Silicon Valley! Never before has a video game concert been performed in the place “where it all started”. And to accent the occasion even more we are holding the show as the closing ceremony to the Game Developers Conference (GDC). GDC attracts over 12,000 of the greatest video game creators, designers, artists and composers from all over the world who gather together to share ideas, knowledge and insight with one another to help forward the industry to greater heights.

But that is only the beginning. After the major success of the debut performance in 2005, Video Games Live returns to the Hollywood Bowl with a new and updated show! This time around the prestigious Hollywood Bowl Orchestra will be performing all of the most popular and loved video game music of all time on the most famous stage in the world. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, March 15th for the September 21st performance. The debut performance took place on July 6th, 2005 at the Hollywood Bowl featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Over 11,000 audience members participated in the biggest video game concert in history. This years show features new segments and even more games to ensure yet another record-breaking event. Come and be a part of history in the making.

Video Games Live will also be the first to bring video game music to the fine state of Texas. On July 14, 2006 the Houston Symphony will be performing Video Games Live at Jones Hall. Tickets on sale soon. Aside from traveling the U.S., VGL is also planning performances in places such as Canada, Japan, Australia, South America (Brazil), Korea, Hong Kong, Russia, China, France, England & Italy! Never before has video game music been brought to so many different countries. Most of the performances will be the very first time that video game music has ever been officially performed live.

Tour dates will be announced and happening all throughout the year so please stay tuned for more info. Make sure to visit our TOUR PAGE as well for all of the latest dates and information.

Thanks,

Tommy & Jack
Sydney and Tokyo in there... I'll tell ya, I wish I were actually going on the tour itself.

Seems like this particular event is going to have some competition from PLAY. I was all ready to go before the events got cancelled, but now with PLAY at Chicago, and with Mitsuda there to boot, I can't say that VGL is winning any propaganda victories for me.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I wonder what will be new at the Hollywood Bowl this time around. I didn't get to make it to last year's show, though overall, I don't regret it. I'll likely be picking up tickets this time, however.

Check out my original music at my Soundcloud page!

Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012):

SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

How many shows did they do before cancelling last year? I can't believe I missed this thread and found out today from a co-worker. I'm going to the San Jose show

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I guess this is the revenge that us on the northeast coast get for hogging the greatest city in the world (New York City), Broadway, and the country's best museums: no video game concert love.

I went on Friday in San Jose. I wasn't exactly impressed, especially after going to see 3 of the Final Fantasy concerts. This was more of a "show" than an actual symphony. I should have expected it though. I'm mad that I paid for the most expensive seats when the acoustics suck no matter where you sit. Still, it was interesting to see nonetheless.

Yeah... it was tough on us last year when Clear Channel decided not to go ahead with the rest of the tour (they ran into some financial restructuring which unfortunately we got caught up in). But NEVER for a second did our dream die. We've been working on this long before the Play or Dear Friends concerts and because we ARE the video game industry the dream will never fade away.

It was a real bummer for us to announce 25 cities and then only play a handful of them. I'm most disappointed for the fans who waited so long for something as new and unique as this to come to their hometown.

But it just took a little longer and now Jack & I are in total control so we never have to worry about a big investor pulling out ever again. We were the first to play Seattle, Vancouver & San Jose... we'll be the first to play Philly (next weekend), the first to Toronto, Montreal, Indianapolis, Houston and many other exciting announcements and countries.

To be honest, the Play concert is much different than Video Games Live. The great news is that no matter what style you prefer or like... there is awesome video game music being played all over the world!!

Doesn't need to be a competition... and although the Play! folks seem to take shots at us when they do interviews... we do not feel the same way.

Facts are facts... our shows are different and because of our design we appeal to a much wider and broader audience. You don't need to be a gamer to enjoy what our show has to offer because of our synchronized video & lights, interactivity with the crowd, free pre-show festival and meet & greet with composers & designers and of course... our tickets are half the price so the whole family can attend. Tickets at our Hollywood Bowl show last year started at $1.

We have a LOT of new surprises and will be debuting some new games and music that have never been heard or played live before.

It will NEVER happen again! We have ensured that!

We've also partnered with all of the cool gaming, anime, sci-fi, comic-book and table gaming conventions all over the world! Instead of trying to do too much at once (6 weeks/25 cities) we are not doing one show at a time in the beginning and building each market successfully.

New York is a VERY expensive place to put on a big production. But hopefully we'll have some exciting news soon.

But Philly is this weekend and it's pretty close to NYC so hopefully you'll be able to check it out.

For reference sake, Montreal is not central Canada. I live smack in the middle of the country, and Montreal is at least a 35 hour drive. Like virtually all music tours, nothing doing for Manitoba or Saskatchewan residents.

Let me just say : Thank You !!! This improves the chances of me being able to attend drastically. Wait..... Scratch that. I'll be there, for sure. It's quite affordable, much more than Toronto for me.

Any chance of getting in touch with Treasure for getting stuff from Radiant Silvergun and/or Ikaruga to be performed in the future ? These are two of the finest orchestral shoot-em-up soundtracks and are often discussed here. I'm actually sure a live orchestrated version of "Penta", "Ruin", "The Stone-Like(A full choir piece!)" from Radiant Silvergun and "Chapter 1 - Ideal", "Boss 1 ~ Butsutekkai", "Chapter 4 - Reality" from Ikaruga would be quite a hit.

Seconded. I know that Sakimoto has been doing some stuff with Play, but some of his stuff would be great (Vagrant Story!). I know that shooters aren't exactly mainstream anymore, but there are some excellent soundtracks that would work very well, including those two.
