Dual monitor problem

I have a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 video card which is supposed to support dual monitors. So I buy a new monitor today and tried to do a dual monitor setup. I installed the drivers for the new monitor, updated my video card's drivers, but when I go to desktop>properties>settings I only see one monitor. Like I can switch to the other monitor thru the nvidia controll panel or w/e but I cant have both monitors and have my desktop stretched to the other monitor. I dont know what I'm doing wrong.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

In the display properties (settings) did you select a option from a dropdown menu called "2. multiple monitors (name of your monitor & gfx card)" or something close to that? If you can you should see that a gray check box will become available once you do select it. Check that box then apply those settings =o.

If your display properties look more like this:

Then yes I think you do have a problem ._.
Then again I can't recall if FX5200 cards actually supports a dual monitor setup. Although I can't see why it shouldn't.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yea I dont have a dropdown menu like the first picture, mine is like the second one. I asked the guy at the store if my video card supports a dual setup and he told me it should. Now I'm having second thoughts, cause I spent arround 350$ on my monitor, I could either get a new video card if this cant be solved or I could just upgrade my computer in that price.

Well I have no clue what your current system specs are but if you're able to upgrade your computer for 350 dollars I would go for that option. I think you'll have more use out of a beefier graphics card than a dual monitor setup anyhow.

(unless you're like me where having a second display will greatly improve your efficiency at work =p.)

Yea I needed this 2nd monitor since I do computer animation and working with a 17 inch monitor really isnt that great. I've searched online and I still cant find a solution, I've asked so many people and they all say that my video card should support it.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I hope Duminas or Dayvon will respond to this because I'm pulling up something I only vaguely/possibly remember.

Is your video card one of those ones that have the "ribbon" that connects the VGA port to the DVI port. You could find this out by simply opening the case and looking. If I'm correct, cards with that "ribbon" on the DVI port don't actually support a dual monitor setup, only one or the other.

Like I said, not sure about this though. :/

Well I've had surgery so I cant open the computer case or anything since that requires me bending down and sitting. Anyways I'm just guessing my video card doesnt support it since I've read some other forums and yea so I decided to return the monitor today. Sucks cause I liked this monitor too.
