So just where in the hell are my flying cars?!

So, seriously. It's the fucking YEAR TWO THOUSAND AND SEVEN you sons of bitches. This ain't no damn YEAR ONE! I was promised flying cars and robot maids and moving sidewalks and computers named R.U.D.I. that sass talk me and call me names. Not this weeaboo segway shit!

Now granted - the computer sass is pretty much almost there (LOOKIN' AT YOU INTERNETS) and we've come a long way but I think we need to advance more.

MOAR I SAY!!!!

So this is where our fun question comes in: Since we live in what was once considered by our grandparents to be "the far future," what do you think we should have had along the lines of "things that should have been invented by now"? Furthermore, if they haven't been invented and/or come to fruition yet, what things do you think have no excuse to NOT be implemented by the time we become grandparents/great-grandparents?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Haha i dont know if this is a humour thread, but dude you should be patient. Don't you think that they promised us that in the 2020-2030s. Back in 1998 i didnt believe that it would happen that fast, so i guess we would just have to wait some more decades.

Where is my liver of steel? ;__; And AI, whatever happened to that? I thought by the year 1999 we'd be living on the moon (if I was to believe Space:1999 anyway). Geez. Science is stagnating for too many reasons.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The Moller Skycar

The videos still show it as being in its early stages, but it looks like it works, for the msot part.

I can only imagine how sky traffic is going to work when these take to the sky.

The flying car thing was idealist sci fi. True technology takes many ideas from it but it doesn't evolve purely for the good of man per say, it's more to make tasks faster, kinda idiot proof, create gimmicks *cough*jamster!*cough* and most importantly find a way to charge us through the nose for it, that and the thought of anyone having flying cars is just plain scary...

Also to answer your question a version of the PC that doesn't crash that everyone uses. I seriously wonder sometimes if microsoft just add to what's already there >.>

That's one of the issues the company said they need to address before it becomes mainstream. They need to set up a kind of highway system for the skycars. Also, there are apparently going to be specific launch points so you can't just take-off and land wherever you want. Not legally anyway. According to them...

If these flying cars did indeed come to fruition, then I would hope there would be some limits to travel overseas on them. I mean, how hectic would the world be if there were flying cars zooming in all directions over our oceans? But, I've gotta say, I'd like the flying cars if they were just limited to land (even though that sort of defeats the purpose of the car; maybe flying over rivers and streams could be satisfying enough).

This just furthers my theory of...err..."hecticness".

When it comes to the future and flying cars, I've always liked this commercial the best.

I had always hoped space technology would have improved at a much faster rate than it has since its inception.

I was told by my ILA teacher in 7th grade that the military was currently testing jet-packs, and that within 10 years, they'd be out on the market. That was 8 years ago, and I haven't heard diddily-squat about jet packs. Flying cars? Jet packs would be like the motorcyles of the air.

I never did like that teacher anyways.

There will never ever be flying cars for the general public IMO. For one, they are a terrorist's wet dream and two, it would be way too hard to keep track of them all with air traffic control and stuff. They may give them to firemen, policemen, etc, but not to the general public, unless they have EXTENSIVE and I mean extensive backround checks, licenses, and all kinds of cross-examinations.

It just seems too hard to pull of and unrealistic.

Sky traffic has been already been proven too hetic on a scale of if everyone does it, though, the affordability of these 'flying cars' will probably be out of reach of the average consumer and will probably take a century for everyone to get to that point of sky travel.

I dont see why some rich folks now or in a few decades cant just buy some flying-thing that doesent require a giant runway or something with a rediculious wingspan, we'll just have to wait....a while.

heh, no one in the sci-fi '50s saw the internet coming to where it is now.

I really think that we should be inhabiting other planets by now. It has been a while since we first had space flight, and in that amount of time it should have been developed enough to enable fast and easy travel to other planets/systems.

At least if the moon was colonized, ya know, I'd be happy enough in 25 years time. By lets say, 2300 AD, then Mars should at least have been walked on.

Where are our teleporters?
I want to step into one and be in Japan the next moment.

Imagine popping in on friends all over the world and being
home in time for dinner. It would be fantastic as long as it
wouldn't be too expensive to use them. Which it would be at first I'm sure.
