Each time I burn a disc I get 2 or 3 PI errors. I think some time ago I didn't have them. Are these errors a problem of the DVD burner? maybe the discs (I'm using verbatim 'cos always though they're the best brand for its quality)?
If PI failures can be fixed by HW, what happen with PI errors? When an error can't be fixed by HW the disc or file becomes unreadable? Gimme some light to these questions. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
You will always get PI/PIF errors when you burn discs, and they exist in factory pressed discs too, so it's unavoidable. All hardware is able to compensate for such errors, but fewer errors means smoother reads. Only when such errors exceed normal boundaries will your drive refuse to read them. Generally, a good burn should have fewer than 280 PI errors and fewer than 4 PIO errors per large area on the disc; of course, lower is always better.
Different combinations of burners, firmware, and media will give different results, and you should experiment a little to see which combination works the best for you. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Could either be media, burner, or both. To check, try burning the same media on another burner, and other media on the same burner.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
You do realise that any given pack of Verbatim you buy might be using one of three or four different dye formulations, don't you? The same goes for any big-name brand of discs, which is why it's possible for them to vary so much from one pack to another. They just don't make their own dyes.
I buy from a store that sells discs by the dye formulation, so I can be guaranteed of getting the same every time. It's a lot more expensive, but it's the only way to guarantee that you won't get any horrible CMC Mag crap. Use DVD identifier to find out what kind of discs you have there, if you're curious. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
1st thank you to everyone. I'm gonna check them, soluzar, that's a great tool. You know, I opened a new pack of DVDs and now I don't get the error window on Nero. Probably you're right and I got just a 'lemmon pack' :P
I couldn't check those wrong DVDs I burnt on my desktop computer because the burner hasn't got the option. So I tried just the 'read proof' and all seemed to be ok. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
