DAMN YOU XBOX!!!! (halp plz)
I am trying to get my Xbox 360 to stream music from my computer. I have installed Windows Media Player 11 and used that Media Sharing utilty, and it recognizes the Xbox. However, on the Xbox, when I do a Test Connection, it says it can't find the computer to connect to. It can connect to the Internet.
I am using a Linksys router and Norton Internet Firewall. I have tried disabling the firewall and using DMZ on the router, but that didn't work. Whoever can get my Xbox to stream music gets a prize. Note, it is imperative I figure out how to do this before Sonic is released on the Xbox 360 so I can play mp3s from Sonic 3 whilst playing the new Sonic. Most amazing jew boots |
Just to be sure you didn't install WMP11 AND the Media Sharing utility by any chance did you. From the post it sounds like you didn't, which is a good thing because WMP11 has it built in. On the other hand, if you did install both, remove the Media Sharer because WMP has it built in.
Next make sure that all the files that you want to share with the 360 are selected. To do this go into WMP and click on the library arrow, and then Media Sharing. Then select Customize, then check the boxes for the media types you want and the two parental control settings to allow all media. If that still doesn't work click the box at the bottom that sais Allow New devices. And also make sure that on the main page of media sharing that the 360 is checkmarked and that the check box saying "share media with these devices" is checked too. If it still doesn't work after all of this then it's a security issue. Try all of that and let me know if you get it working before we go into all that security stuff though. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
1. I only installed WMP 11 and not the media Sharing utility.
2. All the checkboxes were selected to allow all media. 3. I clicked that box and tried again, but it still can't find the computer. I'm fairly sure this isn't a security issue on my end as I've tried disabling all firewalls but still couldn't get the Xbox to find my computer, but it might be. Thanks for your help. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Next thing I would try is checking your Windows .NET framework. Go to control panel -> add/remove programs -> check "show windows updates"
Now you need to have Windows Framework 1.0, 1.1 & 2.0 if any of these are missing you're going to have to do a windows update in order to get them. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I didn't have 2.0, so I'm downing that now and see if it'll work.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
