Neighbor's loud noise in the apartment

This year in college, I chose to live of campus with 4 of my friends. While living off campus is much better than living in the dorms (space, privacy, food, etc.) there is always the matter of noise from your neighbors. In my case, I get the guy downstairs that plays his bass loud everyday. I've talked to him about it, my roommates have talked to him, I've tapped the floor to indicate that he's loud, but nothing seems to get through this guy's thick head. I'm really running out of options here.

I could report him to the landlords (they're very good at handling these matters), but these guys slashed some dude's tires when they were drunk the second week of school. I feel that if I do report them, they're going to do something similar to my car and I have a new 3 series that I really don't want trashed because of this ordeal.

So I guess my question is, how do I handle something like this when it concerns inconsiderate neighbors who, if reported, would probably do something stupid like what I have mentioned. I don't know if it's worth it to report them, but on the other hand, I can't study, sleep, or just watch TV without having obnoxious bass that I can hear AND feel every single day. Suggestions?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Do you have a sub-woofer? Put it in a box and put the open side of the box against the wall, and run a 50hz sine wave through it all day.

Actually, don't do that, it might piss off the other neighbors. But it would probably get your point across too.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Set up a cheap security camera and point it at your car. If they do fuck it up, you can sue them for MASSIVE DAMAGE (599 US DOLLARS).

Seriously, them fucking up your car is only going to be bad for them in the end, and merely a temporary inconvenience for you.

You could also try parking your car in a different spot (further away from where you live).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

You shouldn't have to hide your car in order to get some peace.

But if I were you, I would.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Thanks for the replies everyone. That is a good point about my car being a minor inconvenience if they do trash it.

That's a really good idea and I don't know why I didn't think about that. I will talk to my other neighbors and see how it goes. And Akira, I like my tires. =P

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I think the camera thing is a good idea. Keep on eye on the car while doing something about the noise level. They obviously feel they have more power over you and continue as a result to do whatever they want. Sometimes its the only way to set them in their place.
