Decreasing the size of your pagefile
I have 1.5 gb of pc3200 ddr ram. My pagefile is currently, as suggested by microsoft, about 1.5 times as big; 2.5 gb. Since I have so much ram, I was wondering if it is safe to decrease my pagefile to as little as possible, since ram is much faster and I'd rather not have programs that don't need the pagefile using the pagefile. Does it have any impact on performance? On lag in games? What is the least I can make it to avoid problems?
Thanks. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
You could most likely do it, but just make sure you leave a small page file for XP, otherwise you might end up with perfromance/stability issues (I would say 100MB on your primary partition would do the trick.). If you set that as the minimum, and the max to 512MB or so, you should be set in the event you max out your ram on several memory hungry applications.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
