Ebay woes
I'm a first time user on Ebay. The problem i have is that i bought a sony mp3 player off some seller who lives is US ( i wont mention his name unless you want me too) but like i sent payment to him 3 weeks ago using BidPay (since that is the only payment he would accept) but then today i log into ebay account and find out that he is no longer a registered user. I mean should i be getting worried here?
I've also emailed Ebay about this problem too just now, so hopefully i will be getting an email back from them soon. To make things worse i also looked into my seller's feedback, and i find out that 2 other users have said that they also did not recieve the mp3 player yet. (same item i payed for) and they bought the item around the same time as i did. So far i've only emailed my seller once which was like 3 days after i made my payment about whether or not he recieved my payment and if he had shipped the product to me yet. Then he emails me back a week later saying that he hasn't, i check bidpay account and he's correct. Cept like 2 days later my money is approved, so now its 2 weeks after that and i still haven't recieved my product yet. ugh.. i'm like getting worried now. Any suggestiions or comments? ![]() (btw i've emailed my seller again just now, so hopefully emails me back) Most amazing jew boots |
Should you worry? Yes.
Odds are you're not getting your MP3 player. Hopefully Ebay will side with you should this come down to it, they didn't with me when I had a problem. I ended up getting a partial refund from Paypal. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I also don't think you're going to be getting your MP3 player, but keep sending the guy polite e-mails about it. And I wouldn't count on ebay siding with you, because they almost never do.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

The chances of you getting your going to be slim, since ebay is quite notorious for the "safety" of their transactions. If you really don't get your mp3 player, you might want to try this. Some computer magazines have a feedback column where you can send it your problems and they will follow it up and contact the companies in question for you (like the Watchdog column in APC). When contacted by such magazines and having the problems published, the companies are much more willing to help in these frauds (there have been several instances involving ebay). I don't know if this will help you at all, but I just thought to let you know there a several successful cases where ebay has been pressured to deal with the problems properly. So I guess you can give it a try.

well I know it's your first time on ebay and that was probably a mistake (I know I did some too >.>)
I really don't think you'll get anything, maybe a parcial refund from ebay but it may take some time and probably never happen... what I can suggest you is next time you buy something there, use paypal, it's saffer this way and in case of frauds they can refund you up to 1000$ if i'm not mistaken (I think they don't include shipping cost in that thought) and ALWAYS check the rating of the seller(it's on %) and check is feedback log to see what other custumer said BEFORE puting a bid, if you see a lot of bad feedback, find another seller XD you can always email the seller with a question to check if they'll respond, if they don't, you should either wait for a respond(in case they are really busy) or find another seller...it's just that in case there's a problem (sometime the package can be lost in mail) you want him to respond if you request a refund or to send another item... and when you do you're purchase, if by 2-3 days you didn't heard from them, then that's not good, or they may have just forget to email you that they ship the item or something(there's a are some compagny though that sell on ebay and they have automated message so you get in that case a respond pretty quick) I think you're good for any other purchase XD someone can complete me or correct me if I was wrong XD but for you mp3 players, I'm sorry but I don't think there's much to do but wait for a respond from ebay :\ try this link: http://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/index.html I was speaking idiomatically. ![]()

I have a bit of a problem with ebay as well. One of my friends purchased 2 ink cartridges off a person, paid, and only received one. When questioned about the item the person (who's chinese and very poor at english) said he "worded his auction wrong" and would refund half of the paid price providing she paid postage.
Now, postage was already $5. Postage to send it back to them would probably be the same, which is lame because they're in the same town as her. Here's the auction: Spoiler:
Now, the auction says there's 2 for sale. According to her, she bought this thinking that there were two in the single auction. What do you guys make of this, because I'm not entirely sure if this is considered fraud. Quite simply, if she had of known it were for a single ink cartridge, she wouldn't of bidded. Since the auction was poorly written by the auctioneer, I think they're in the wrong. Of course the auctioneer isn't going to send the second ink cartridge, and won't refund unless she pays postage. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I'm confused. What postage does your friend have to pay, Elixir? He already got one ink cartridge, and the seller is offering a half refund, so isn't he keeping the one cartridge he got?
As for who's at fault, I'd tend to blame your friend for not questioning the seller before purchasing. The wording is contradictory, and I would have asked for clarification before bidding. FELIPE NO |
I've bout a few items from ebay and they have all worked fine. I pains me to see other people having problems with a wonderful service, and I hope it doesn't deter them from using it in the future. Like mentioned before, I always check a seller's feedback before purchasing, and I also send them 1 or 2 questions.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? Mario Kart DS: 498293-921939____ Star Fox Command: 155-576-696-451____ Metroid Prime Hunters: 4854-1233-4943____ Final Fantasy III: 506891214495____ Xfire: freuser____ Steam: Free.User____ |
Look. If she posted the cartridge off (which she shouldn't have to do in the first place) that would cost another $5. So a total of $10 is wasted and nothing is gained, thanks to the miswording of an auction that shouldn't have been contradictory in the first place. He lives in the same town but still refuses to have public communication.
During all this, she gave him negative feedback, and also received one: Spoiler:
At this time she didn't receive any emails about "offering a refund or exchange for another one" and she's replied like FIVE TIMES with her bank details. I'd be pretty pissed off too if I bidded on something expecting one thing, and ended up getting another. Currently he's now offering to refund half into her bank account, providing she gives details. She's done so, and he keeps ignoring them, and keeps asking. It's like he's deliberately ignoring them. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Alright, I got an email back from Ebay giving me instructions on how to solve this problem. They said i should phone my seller and resolve the problem from there, and if its not corrected, then i should open a dispute from Ebay. Welp, looks like i'm going to have to make a long distance call now, since my seller is in the US and i'm from Canada... great.
Double Post: ok i phoned my seller and he doesn't answer... tch typical. Guess now i have to open up a dispute on ebay. The thing is now i have to wait 10 days, and then if he still does not reply back to me then i'll Submit the online Standard Purchase Protection Program claim form. DAmmit!.. freaking have to wait even longer now. sigh.. seriously getting pissed now. There's nowhere I can't reach.

All I can say to you is: Good Luck... Don't Give Up!
My brother who I recommended using eBay for buying rare items has been put off of it forever, thanks to a loser who never delivered the item my brother had paid for. A lot of e-mail traffic followed, with each side defending their position. A useful tactic here was the ignoring of e-mails by the other party. Obviously the other side was in the wrong because the bank account details confirmed the seller had received the payment but he of course claimed he didn't. In the end a dispute was opened and closed on eBay but that didn't help my brother at all. He never received his item, he lost his money and the only thing he received out of this transaction was negative feedback (his only feedback to date mind you). So yeah I guess eBay likes to keep their distance in these cases and let the seller/buyer fight it out. I on the other hand, have never had any problems like these when it comes to selling or buying on eBay... Must be one of the lucky ones. So good luck to you Sweeper. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I've bought a refurbished PS2 and XBOX off of eBay no problems. It sucks to see fraud happening on a daily basis, even moreso that eBay does virtually nothing about it. It brings me to this question: What's even the point of having a complaint/dispute department?

finally got a letter from ebay now about my claim. Sad thing is though... now i have to wait Another month for them to investigate the situation. Aahhhhh this claim thing is sooo tedious, and annoying the crap out of me. But, looks like i'll be getting around 60% of what i paid for the original item. (well thats if the claim is in my favor) great :/
