Has anybody held a raffle?

So,

I'm trying to get a raffle together to raise some money for our graduation in early-middle of 2007.

I was just wondering if anybody else has done this - and if they had any suggestions? Right now we've got somone to print the tickets (my aunt works at a printer's so that's covered), I'm just working on drafting a letter to ask for donations.


Any suggstions?

Check for local laws regarding raffles and whether you might need permits/licenses to distribute prizes in exchange for money.

Yup, we've done that already - we're good to go without a license unless we accumulate more then $50,000 worth of prizes.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If this falls under the category of non-profit, you can usally ask merchants to donate merchandise for prizes. They can write off the loss on their taxes at their retail prices, which is a complete scam, but the government allows it. Hope that helps.
