Best bittorrent client

DOes it really matter what bittorrent client I use? Will I get gains in speeds with other clients? I currently use ABC, but there are loads out there and I was wondering it there's really a difference.

As far as reources go, uTorrent is by far the best.

ABC I found has some problems. Like some files in torrents would die on ABC but work perfectly fine on uTorrent.

I was a big ABC fan until ABC started failing left and right. uTorrent is better.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

uTorrent is my recommendation, though it would be perfect if it had the option to manually select the encoding for a torrent, like BitComet does.

I use utorrent and im perfectly satisfied with it. I recommend it.

Thanks to you all I just got utorrent and am experiencing severe speeds in downloading. Amazing.

One small problem I have, and have had for the past 3 years is that with optimum online I have a problem called "throttling" that if I remain uploading for over an hour, my internet connection gets suspended [this has happened about 5 times already] so every hour I have to pause it for atleast 20 minutes and then continue uploading again.

There once was a schedule system that I used for Azureus which worked great, is there anything like that I can use for utorrent?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Thanks, the scheduler works but it's hourly. I don't need to shut off the download for an hour but only like 20 min. is there anything that'll let me customize?

i dont think utorrent is so good. i have dsl and i am downloading at 2-5kbs and uploading 15kbs. i already uploaded 2 gig and downloaded only 1.3 what is going on?? i even set the settings to limit to 1 kbs

Slow download speeds are usually not related to the specific client you're using, but a configuration error on the user's part. Every client I know is capable of achieving great speeds with their default configuration if you have your ports forwarded correctly. uTorrent is not an exception here.

µTorrent if you have Windows. Azureus if you have a Mac. Turn on encryption support and everyone in the world is a little happier.

I would also suggest you use uTorrent. Bitcomet is good, except for the fact that a lot of trackers have banned it because of some ratio reporting issues with it. If you're not using windows I would actual just stick with the original bittorrent client, despite the fact that its one of the worst out there because Azureus just uses up too much resources for me to run it for as long as I'd like.

utorrent is great if you are downloading from trackers that have a lot of local seeds and peers. utorrents DHT network is rather lacking though. If you are downloading with sources that make heavy use of DHT to get seeds and peers, Azureus is the far better choice for a bittorrent client.

From my experience, Azureus just picks up DHT seeds and peers a little faster. It still doesn't make any significant difference, because being connected to faster seeds and peers is entirely random and you will rarely be able to use your full download bandwidth over longer periods with any P2P client.

In the end, the different DHT implementations of uTorrent and Azureus are equally good in the long run. uTorrent is much less ressource-demanding at it, though, but we've already established that much.

Like what mostly everyone else said get utorrent. Like rock said speeds arn't associated with which client you're using. Really the only thing that changes is how fast it connects to peers which isn't a big deal anyways. Azureus is good also but it just uses too much memory for me.

Just a warning, limiting your upload to 1 kbps is kinda assholeish and could get you banned from trackers that monitor such things...

Not only that, but bittorrent is supposed to base your download speed on your upload speed, so if don't upload enough you might see a drop in your download speeds. But I don't know if other clients enforce this.

From what he said, it sounds like he's got a DSL connection that only has 128kbps upstream, so that 15KB/s he's sending out is saturating his connection and causing his download speeds to drop precipitously. Limiting your total upstream bandwidth in your torrent client to 5 - 7KB/s below your maximum upload speed should take care of that problem.
