Melty Blood: Act Cadenza

Official site
Videos

Quote:
Melty blood makes use of widely used concepts in fighting games such as cancels (cancelling an attack before its animation ends, then beginning another, allowing for more complex and damaging combos) chain combos (normal moves that can be link without the use of cancels) and the use of power bars (called Magic circuits in-game). Magic circuits serve more purposes than just allowing the execution of special moves. Chain combos are much easier to perform in comparison to other games, and it also brings other interesting features like simultaneous impacts and dash shielding among others. In addition, it brings the original concept of Shielding into gameplay.

Shielding is an advanced form of guarding. By tapping the shield button right before the moment of impact, the player cancels the opponent's attack, leaving the opponent wide open to attack. There are also Shield-only EX moves called "Last arcs." Last arcs are powerful attacks that cannot be blocked; they are activated automatically if the character shields while in "Blood heat" mode.

"Blood heat" mode is one of the variations of the magic circuit, the other being simply heat mode. A much more detailed explanation:

As mentioned earlier,Magic circuits work differently than in other fighting games. Magic circuits fill up with every connected attack the character performs, once the gauge reaches 300% the character goes automatically into Heat mode. While in heat mode the player can execute an Arc drive. An Arc Drive is an extremely damaging EX move which depletes the bar of the Magic Circuit gauge completely. Miyako Arima is the only exception, using just 150%. while the player is in heat mode he has the option of activating "Blood heat".Blood heat mode gives the player the ability to execute a much more damaging Arc drive,or activate the previously mentioned "Last arcs".Also,if the player has activated Blood Heat mode, the life gauge of his or her character will start to recover moderately fast,as long he/she is not guarding.

Other features used in Melty blood include:

Simultaneous impacts: serves as another canceling technique,if 2 characters hit each other at the same time they will cancel each other out, however the counter-attacks array that can be performed is very limited.

Dash Shielding: some Dash animations have a certain number of defense frames,if the opponent attacks the character while these certain frames are still activated,his/her attack is cancelled.

Aerial recovery: this can only be performed once your character has been thrown into the air and is falling towards the ground by tapping any button.by doing so the character will recover his/her standing animation and grant temporary invulnerability, mostly used to prevent an opponent from comboing.
I'm thinking of importing this. After a few videos I'm convinced that it's a great game, which greatly resembles Guilty Gear's feel. The expected release date is august the 10th, so roughly in 9 days time.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

This is definately what I wanted after a few years of playing the original,reACT and Final Tuned of the MB series. I hope they add a few more moves though.. They really need it . Combos are awesome at least.

If this goes well, I hope they do a crossover of Fate Stay Night and MB. It could happen ;p.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

This game did pretty well in the Japanese arcades, which surprises me considering that Re-ACT isn't all that different. It's a solid fighting game, though a little easy to make combos compared to Guilty Gear. Knowing anything about Tsukihime increases the enjoyment. If you're into the pirating thing, you could download the original and Re-ACT to give the game a try before you get on PS2.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Don't you mean ness will "download" the game.

If you order it, I'll definitely import it as well. I'm sick of importing alone. I'm not really interested in Tsukihime at all, but the fighting system (like I said, which resembles Guilty Gear in a large manner) alone makes me want to purchase this.

Looking forward to this one. Hopefully the pixeliness will be less noticeable on a TV.

I tried this game out, but I really couldn't get into it.

The game really feels like a cheap rip off of Guilty Gear made in one of those fighting game maker programs like MUGEN. I suppose I can be happy for the game creators because their fan made game ended up getting pretty popular, but I don't see much appeal to it.

My main problem with the game is that there are only a handful of characters, half of which are duplicates of each other, and the designs are really bland. I suppose after seeing probably a dozen Ryu clones in Capcom's games, that could be forgivable, but the doesn't have much originality to it either. It has the pace of Guilty Gear, the parrying of Street Fighter 3, but the package doesn't quite come together in my opinion.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

ness is downloading it? He told me he was buying it! ness!

Also, I've only played Melty Blood and not the sequel/add-ons. I liked the gameplay there, even if it was a simplified Guilty Gear. Still fun to play, and even moreso if you're a fan of the series.

Well, compared to Guilty Gear, pretty much any game's character designs are going to look bland. :P

Still, you can't tell me that Nero doesn't look awesome!

Apparently he's buying it after all.

Quote:

I've heard that the combos are really, really easy to pull off. But that doesn't sound like a bad thing. I was skeptical at first but after seeing an endless amount of videos, the style looks awesome. I don't really enjoy fighters (2D or 3D) that're complex in their characters, which is why I've always been a fan of SNK titles.

A bonus for me is that one of my friends is also going to order this game from play-asia in a few weeks (when he isn't spending it on everything else coming out this month), so it doesn't really matter if the AI sucks.

I'll probably preorder this tomorrow.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Be prepared for Sion infinite!

I love MBRA, i got MB Re-Act Final Tuned on my PC and its maybe the best 2D Fighting game on PC with GGXXR and Eternal Fighter Zero.

Still, this game will never be released in US, not even a "originally Doujin fighting game based on a SLG Renai game"

Still, the best thing about MBAC on PS2 is just to bring something "fresh" to the fighting scene at least and im very sure that it will sold very good in Japan because this game is absolutely popular in the Japanese Arcade scene... still, im worried about the quality of the PS2 port because this game is originally running on NAOMI GD-ROM board and almost all NAOMI ports to PS2 got horrible in graphics, specially Capcom vs SNK 2 and Virtua Tennis 2... sigh, if this only were released on Dreamcast...

By the way, you can download some awesome fights on Game Chariot Movies, an Arcade center were the fights of the Tougeki Super Battle Opera 2006 were taken. I specially love this.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Hohoho~

I loves me some Melty Blood. I played ReACT a bit last year, but never really got back into it once I got a new computer and lost the install discs. The friends I play Guilty Gear with quite often will be getting into this as well, possibly making it our secondary game of choice (GG being first, of course).

I already pre-ordered my copy from Play-Asia. Next day shipping for a grand total of $84. @_@ Worth it? I certainly hope so. I hope to have it at my doorstep when I get home from work next Friday.

I've had my eyes on Sion for a long time, namely because I'm somewhat of a fanboy for her. I like her playstyle as well, which suits my rather offensive style that I play in all fighting games. While her infinite, which happens to be her bread and butter (lol~) as well, is a nice plus, it's not exactly a reason why I'm choosing her to be my main. Apparently she's a difficult character to play, one of the most difficult in MB, but I can't imagine her being too hard to play, as the best Sion in Japan plays Slayer/Pot in Guilty Gear.

Other canidates I have my eyes on as characters I will play are Akiha Vermillion (rushdown/mix ups!) and Red Arc (more rushdown yay~). Akiha Vermillion looks very promising, but it's discouraging that her life is so low. One Sion combo on Akiha Vermillion can equal 50% life!

Here are some videos of interest:
youtube.com/watch?v=bB5bbgPGEGU - Arcueid infinite (works on Shiki and Hisui, as far as I know; not sure who else)
youtube.com/watch?v=tBX3cgGsuwc - Sion infinite... lots of it (keep in mind that most players just go for a reset after so many reps of the infinite)

shoryuken.com/wiki/index.php/Melty_Blood:_Act_Cadenza - Shoryuken.com MB:AC wiki

Looking forward for this baby next week. <3

Note: Meh... dunno when GFF invoked the rule of no images or url links until a certain number of posts are gained... but that's kind of lame. Been here for while too... just kind of stopped posting. >_>;; Anyways, I have to give links as text for now until further notice.

I like the first time I played MB: Re-Act for a least two hours but then I dropped it. MB is just a repetitive brainless fighter. Almost very character play all the same, jump-in attack, throw. I kinda not to waste my time learning this game anymore.

Yeah. those were definately the days. I remember rushing to best buy to cop' a better logitech controller for it. I believe there was a patch for playing online but I haven't found it anywhere. the FINAL TUNED version was sorta like Act Cadenza. Only.. not.

Where there any tweaks in the graphics?

EDIT: Playing Now. Its fun and i notice alot of differences . I just think the fighting game is a little bit the same but with all the other interesting features. It makes up for it and the added tracks. The game doesn't suck so dont have doubts about it. Its still fun. Its superior to all of the other versions.

EDIT2: Yeah im still liking it lol.

BTW, if the torrent isn't good for you, I'll be uploading the iso on sendspace for you (of course in winrar). The file is about 1.5 gigs and 300 mb in winrar.

EDIT3: nvm. I can't upload on sendspace since you can only upload up to 300. The winrar file is 320. I'll put it on megaupload. Dont get it twisted. if you use firefox with megaupload. It'll download somewhat quicker o.o;.

EDIT 4: Upload Finished. Happy downloading ;p

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W2F5K2AO

fuck. You can only upload to 250.. So i guess this is good for the premium users >.>. Sorry.

I'm loving the animation, it's just so wonderfully smooth. Not quite up to Third Strike quality, but very impressive either way and easily the third best animation I've seen in fighting games (right after Garou - Mark of the Wolves).

I'm having a bit trouble with the buttons, way too used to Street Fighter controls, so I had to fiddle with the control settings for ages till I got a setup that works for me.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Was anybody able to unlock Neco-Arc? Its kinda ridiculous but cute as well ;p. I was giving the game another go with the new character Kouma. Fuckin badass I tell you. Kinda has a mix of that one dude from Rage of the Dragons and Kagami from LB2.

As for the controls, I'm fine with the default only now i felt like switching circle for x. Makes things more easier. Good thing they increased the life bar at least.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

just right-click on the melty blood .rar > Add to archive, then look for Split into volumes, bytes, and there should be a preset for 250000000, being 250MB. Select that, then OK, and WinRAR will split them.

Double Post:
If worst comes to worst, I'll redownload, and provide a YSI myself, because I can upload a gig for some reason.
