I think this was a misinterpretation of a Namco spokesperson. I guess they just meant that the story of ACX isn't in any way connected to the other games in the series, so to emphasize that this is an entirely new game and not some lame expansion or add-on.

Shit, I'm browsing and look what I find related to ACX:

As if we didn't realize we're slowly creeping back into AC3 awesomeness.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Heaven forbid AC6 is going to have such futuristic planes all over the place. AC3 was essentially the worst game in the entire series. What would Ace Combat be without our familiar planes such as the F14, F22 and Su-37s?

I really would of liked to try AC3 before they stripped it down before judging it. But since I dont understand Japanese it's pretty pointless. It sounded like a good game, right up there with the other AC games. But the english version is complete shit.

But you are right. We gotta have our current or old planes. Since it takes place in 2020 they'll still be there, thankfully. ;D

'Project ACES' is Ace Combat 4, 5 and Zero, right?

So why don't they just state that it's in the same universe as all previous Ace Combat games?

I got the impression Project ACES was referring to Air Combat 1. I really don't know.

Air Combat is the only game that doesn't take place in AC world. All the other games are on the same planet.

Wouldn't it be cool if Namco (excuse me, "Bandai/Namco". Ugh, that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth) included ports of AC1/AC2 on the UMD as unlockables? Well, I can dream can't I? They need to include the Falken in X so we can recreate the famous XFA-27/ADF-01 dogfight.

It must be able to shoot missiles backwards though, none of this laser crap.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hehehe if only we could play the true and real version of AC3, makes me sad we might never will. You're right though with the X planes...hell, even their cockpits look like the style of AC3, which was laying in the cockpit and controlling the plane through the mind.

What's this about the 17th now! Talk about being let down. I was looking at Best Buy's coming soon list yesterday and it showed Ace Combat having a release date of 10 October. Looking again just now it's been moved over to their released list retailing at $49.99. Somebody needs to get fired over there.

I searched all over the web, but everyone seems to be giving contradicting release dates for this games. Sorry, but does anyone have some sort of solid confirmation on Ace Combat X's debut in the States?

In other news, some new screenshots released by IGN:

Damn, this game is shaping up to look fucking awesome. Still can't imagine how it will be to play a "real" Ace Combat game on my PSP, though.

Question: Did the F-16XL (first and fourth image) ever appear in the series prior to ACX?

Yes, I believe it showed up in AC5 and Zero.

I wish it was out now. It would of been fun to play a little Ace Combat while at the Miramar Airshow in San Diego today. While watching alot of the jets perform I frequently thought of trying the manuevers in-game. Since alot of the things they were pulling off were tactics used in real dog fighting.

According to IGN and GameSpy: October 17

According to Amazon.com: October 23

According to Wikipedia: October 24

According to Playstation.com: Sometime in October

What's the fucking release date for this?

I was speaking idiomatically.

WOW! That art brings a tear to my eye. Highly reminiscent of AC04, with just a touch of "in your face Over G!" added for good measure. The Japanese sure do go crazy for the F-22 (probably because they might be getting some in the near future).

Looks like ACX might have a little competition with HEATSEEKER:
http://psp.ign.com/objects/858/858379.html
It doesn't look like it can top ACX, but it seems to have much more depth in individual plane specs. 2 jet fighter games on PSP? Now I HAVE to buy it!

Also, more info about X on IGN:
http://psp.ign.com/articles/738/738697p1.html

OMFG, that opening sequence RAWKS!

As did EBGames. At least, checking that site now, I found that people who preorder get a shirt with it as a bonus item. The AC0 shirt I got was pretty rad, I hope this one is similar.

Hey, is that preorder shirt thing only for EBgames? I reserved Zero at Gamestop and didn't get anything. EBgames doesn't exist here, only Gamestop.
