That would be a nice idea, but I doubt it. The real question is, will you be able to save games onto an SD card or something?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I would assume that the 500 dollar version would not support wireless PSP connectivity. Instead, it would probably require a USB cable.

I don't see why the 600 dollar version wouldn't work with the PSP in both connection forms.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I'm no Nintendo fanboy, nor Sony, but my inclination is to SOny, yes. then again, the price is just insane; that price is wroth only if this shit makes me some food. I'm pretty sure the library of SOny will improve as time passes, but I'm one of those people that will wait for that console to have a more accessible price.
If it were meant to be just a console, then I would agree that the price doesn't make sense. But it's meant to be an all-around entertainment device. Unlike Nintendo's sytem, which is meant to be for games only (excluding the DVD movie add-on), the PS3 plays Blu-ray and DVD movies, regular audio CD and Super Audio CDs. Dedicated Blu-ray players should be aroudn the price of a PS3, and dedicated SACD players can be in the hundreds as well. From that viewpoint, the PS3 is a deal.

I think this is essentially a "boiling down" argument.

Some people may boil down the recent Iraq War for reasons of "oil."
The same idea applies to Sony.
Some people may boil down the PS3 for reasons of "securing Blu-ray as a media format."

Basically, if Sony didn't put this expensive behemoth of a drive in the PS3, Blu-ray would barely have a defense against HD-DVD. Where would Sony Pictures be then?

We're just unknowingly participating in the DVD format wars at the command of these giant companies. It's just a shame that Blu-ray didn't come out earlier than the PS3 (like DVD players did), because that would have allowed the console to debut at a much lower price.

How ya doing, buddy?

This is is what's unfortunate about Sony being such a large company. By having too many other interests(divisions) the computer entertainment division has to shoe horn in a blue ray player to help out another branch. Just like their electronics division missed the Mp3 player band wagon because their music division was to worried about piracy.

I wonder what'll happen to PS3's price if HD-DVD comes out on top and blue-ray goes down the path of Sony's mini-disks and UMD movies...

I don't know about you guys, but I think having 40 GB of storage space in console that outputs in high definition happens to be a good idea. A few developers have already expressed their displeasure with working with the XBox 360 and it's standard DVD-9 discs. Most of the DOA4 endings were cut short because the developers didn't want you to have to put a new disc in to watch various endings for each character.

I think we already went over this, but using FMV is still cheaper and easier than using your ingame engine even if the engine can make things look as good as the FMV. I think most developers will be VERY appreciative of the 40 GB of storage space they have to work with.

Of course the Wii is a different matter as it will not support high definition output so DVD-9 is sufficient for that console.

Why do people continue to make this comparison like Blu-Ray is a Sony propitiatory format. I hope you realize Sony doesn't own Blu-Ray. They are just one of the 12 major companies that helped develop the technology and the standards.

They were the first two examples that came to mind. Heck you can compare them to Beta tapes if it'd make you feel better. (That wasn't Sony's was it?). Anyway, it doesn't matter. The point is, it'd be interesting to see what happens to the PS3 and how Sony would market it, if Blue-ray ends up not being the standard.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...M0&refer=japan

Sony really seems to be about to bungle this launch. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better just to delay until spring "07" just to come strong. It doesn't take much to turn the industry against you (see N64) and Sony seems to be doing just that.

I was speaking idiomatically.

It's basically Sony saying "we don't want your crap on PS3". And I reckon this is a good thing, considering THQ's latest games.

PS3's will sell like hotcakes initially, regardless of price. But what about afterwards? Even after a $100 price-drop, the PS3(the good version) will still be expensive.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'd guess they would still most likely still sell like hot cakes. I mean, if it was already initially selling good, then a price drop could only boost sales, right?

Anyways, I don't understand why people aren't talking more about the whole Linux / programming thing. Am I the only one who thinks the idea of playing the entire library of almost all the old school consoles via emulators on the PS3 incredibly awesome? Hell, what if they somehow managed to implement online play with that shit...that would make the PS3 three times cooler than it already seems to be.

Is it me, or are Japanese players fuckin' biased as hell?! Take a look at their Top 10 for the Most Impressive stuff at E3!

Quote:
Famitsu published the Top 10 E3 news Japanese players are most interested:

1. Impression and presentation of PlayStation 3 Controller
2. Square Enix's announcement of Final Fantasy XIII
3. Price and Launch date of PlayStation 3
4. Announcement of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Snake as a new character
5. PlayStation 3 menu and user interface
6. Details of the PlayStation 3 Network Platform
7. Images of PlayStation 3 games
8. Three versions of Final Fantasy XIII
9. Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen & The Tower of Mirrors for Wii
10. Images of Square Enix games
What the hell? I know it's nothing groundbreaking but I didn't know they were that blinded.

Dunno if this has been posted as another article or not, but it's dated today soo~

Quote:
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony has dismissed rumours that the 20GB PS3 will not be compatible with wireless controllers, and that consumers will not have the option to upgrade the hard drive.

"Both queries to my knowledge are completely false," a spokesperson told GI.biz.

"Both configurations will support bluetooth PS3 controllers. The only non-upgradeable feature of the 20GB configuration will be the HDMI output."

This confirms comments made by Sony's Phil Harrison in a recent interview with GI.biz, where he stated: "You can upgrade to whatever size of drive you like. You can put in any drive that you like - it is a computer, after all."

The spokesperson went on to reveal that Sony plans to release a Wi-Fi adaptor for the 20GB PlayStation 3. Consumers will also have the option to purchase a separate adaptor that will allow the use of memory sticks, SD cards and compact flash cards with the machine.

However, there's still no word as to whether the 20GB PlayStation 3 will make it to the UK at all.
Link.

Sounds good to me.

That rumor came up because some idiot thought no Wifi meant no wireless controllers.

Why anyone even thought it was true for a second is beyond me. But yeah, the upgradeable harddrive sounds nice.

Why are they "blinded" for prefering news about the PS3 from this particular show? I'm pretty sure that a revelation of the final PS3 controller was something that potential PS3 buyers were all very interested in hearing about. (Since for all we knew previously, they were about to give us a damn sidewinder look-a-like!)

What's really funny is that people seem to think that the PS3 won't sell just because it has a ridiculous price tag.

Blinded by what, exactly? I don't think you realize how one-sided the market is here for home consoles. It's PS2, and nothing else. You go into a store, and the Xbox and GC get one combined isle. The DS and PSP get their own isle, and the PS2 is the rest of the store. In addition, the Japanese don't seem to really care about innovative gameplay for consoles. The arcades, with games like Sangokushi Taisen or the upcoming Psy-Phi, have plenty of customs cabinets to serve that purpose.

The United States has the largest gaming market, followed by Japan.

Impression and presentation of PlayStation 3 Controller.

So basically, the fact that they've used the SAME design as the PS/PS2 controller, slapped the wireless side of it which the Gamecube and Xbox 360 already have and threw in the Gyroscopic control scheme of the already-announced Wii controller makes it the most impressive thing out of E3?

Wow.
