Exactly, and yet it's one of the 'strongest' thing at E3.

It made an impression because it was unknown of what the PS3 controller was going to be. I don't see why they shouldn't be impressed. It would take much adjusting to play many of the games that sell big here on a Wii-like pad.

RE: Sketch's Famitsu List

Who was polled for this? Did they ask a bunch of people at the Sony booths to get their results or what? I can understand people being interested in learning more about Sony's new console, but when they have "PlayStation 3 menu and user interface" at number 5, it makes me wonder if this is just a joke. Seriously, why should so many people give a shit about the PS3 menus over important stuff like the games that will be running on the system?

Sketch's list seems to have come from here: http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/200...53203,0,0.html, the first list on the page. It's not a poll at all; I think it's just a ranking of which piece of news got the most hits on famitsu.com over E3.

To be honest...I dont see the reason in needing a wireless controller. I would have much rather had a rumble feature instead of wireless. I think wireless stuff should be for the people like Logitech and Mad Catz [lmao, they even around still?] to make those accessories, not the major companies such as Sony or Nintendo. It's just silly to me.

I think what really concerns me is this whole 'ps3 not compatable with the ps2 ans ps1 memory cards' thing.

I actually like the idea of wireless controllers. I got a chance to try out some on an Xbox 360 the other day and it's just nice to be able to take/move the thing anywhere and not have to worry about cords. That's definetly a smart move on the part of next-gen sytems, incorporating that as a default.

As for the rumble/shock feature, Sony would just get sued again if they did use it.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I doubt this is an acurate survey of what was most impressive at E3. I understand not seeing much Microsoft love on there considering that Xbox is still 3rd in terms of popularity over there. However, it'd most probebly be a lot more evenly split between Sony and Nintendo had it been a thorough survey.

The only thing that interested me, which is still unconfirmed, is the region-free games on the PS3, if Sony can avoid putting region restrictions on games, it'll help their sales in the near future. After all, modding a new console to play other regions' games costs at least $300 more...

When it boils down to price and innovation, Wii stands out among the three, unless you are a rich kid or a die-hard Sony fan, I'm sure you'll pick up Wii first like me to keep yourself entertained while wait for PS3's price to drop to a reasonablely affordable level.

Bah, i'd rather have the rumble feature back. Come on Gelb, even you agree feeling the Engines on your Su-37 in Ace Combat on the controller feels better than a controller that does nothing.

They can't have the rumble feature anymore, since they told the company who already registred the patent to go fuck themselves. So, I'm guessing it's definitive. And it sucks, Force-Feedback is now part of the gaming world and not having it takes down a notch the experience of playing.

I don't understand the fixation with force-feedback. It's a useless gimmick. The only amusement I get out of the rumble feature is the realization of how pathetically fake and ineffective it is.

The spokesperson went on to reveal that Sony plans to release a Wi-Fi adaptor for the 20GB PlayStation 3. Consumers will also have the option to purchase a separate adaptor that will allow the use of memory sticks, SD cards and compact flash cards with the machine.

However, there's still no word as to whether the 20GB PlayStation 3 will make it to the UK at all.
Sorry to interrupt but does this mean that were not getting Ps3 WITH 20GB drive ( UK ) at all?

Thanks in advance

"Other than game studios tied to official developer licenses, we'd like to see various individuals participate in content creation for the PS3."

But don't go expecting any help with your work from Sony. According to Kawanishi, "When a game studio enacts development on a PS3 by entering a license contract, SDK libraries... will be presented, and various technical support given.
"In contrast, when using Linux World on the PS3... support will fall to the lowest level required, and you must solve and work on things by yourselves."
There's no word on how it'll all work, though - will you be able to share programs via memory card, for example, or perhaps upload them via Sony's new online service? Looks like we'll just have to wait and see...
It seems that the PS3 might have some interesting stuff come out for it on the homebrew front

I can see it now. People are going to program the first viruses for a videogame console.

Anyways, the only thing I can really think of comming out of the whole PS3 homebrew scene are emulators, which would totally negate the whole Nintendo library on the Wii. Anyone else have any cool ideas?

Yeah, for the most part I agree. The only game where it really did feel cool was Ace Combat since you'd feel your airplane rumble as you started to really move. Its use in RPGs and most other genres was pretty much a waste.

Force-feedback will end up being one of those things that you take for granted, but when it's gone you'll really notice it and kinda want it back. Ah well.

Anyway, the announcement that a WiFi adapter and an external memory card device are being produced has convinced to splurge only on the $500 PS3 and not the $600 one. Ultimately, both models support some type of high-definition, be it through component cables or HDMI outputs, and considering how long it's likely going to be before I get an HD-capable (and a good one) television, I'm not too worried about HDMI.

Now, here's hoping for some supreme launch titles. But please Sony, hold the mushrooms.

Wow that's what happened? Hmmm, lame. Very lame. Like someone said in the above posts, you won't notice it until it's gone. Even if the rumble is used for silly things like RPGs and what not, its still a nice feature. See now i'm getting irritated we can't use dual shock 2 controllers on this machine. Hmm, maybe they'll get a sort of...adapter to those controllers or something, so they can be used on the ps3.

That's what also annoys me with console makers, they consistantly change their controllers so none can work with the newest descendant or the oldest. :/

I will miss the force feedback controllers. As noted above, games that use the feature "appropriately" such as Ace Combat or a multitude of FPS/action games involving guns and projectile weapons to feel the recoil won't quite have the same effect to me, anymore. They'll still be fun, but it's a thing I've taken for granted that once your hands get used to the virbrating, you don't really notice it anymore unless there's a big ass explosion that shakes the controller more violently than normal. I liked feeling the "recoil" from the gun each time I pulled the trigger. ;_;.

I think Kutaragi drink something when say that

Quote:
Kutaragi: PlayStation 3 is "too cheap"

Filed under: Culture, Sony PlayStation 3, Business
Ken KutaragiIn a disturbing twist, Ken Kutaragi has gone on record stating that the PlayStation 3's $600 price tag is "too cheap." The SCE president has again compared the forthcoming console to a fine dining experience. His argument is that no one calls into question the price differential between some slop at the cafeteria and a meal at an upscale restaurant. From his (deep pockets) point of view, "If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."

Does Sony's braggadocio excite anyone? Because it's turning us off.

After a paltry E3 showing - from a games perspective - it's hard to see the PS3 as anything more than a Trojan horse for sneaking (relatively) cheap Blu-ray devices into consumers' homes. The PlayStation brand is being pimped, and gamers are paying for it, literally. It's ridiculous for Kutaragi to suggest that his company is doing us a favor by launching the PS3 for $600. It's also disrespectful. Who else gets the feeling that Sony is looking down on us?

Kutaragi does have a point. Technically, you get a cheap Blu-Ray player, with the option to play thousands of games.

But still, $500-600 for a gaming console? I still can't really shake it off.

With the price of gas rising, and the cost of living skyrocketing, it'll be pretty hard for most of the middle-class people to afford it..

See, that's what gets me. What if I'm not interested in the damn blu-ray player? I'm not making the jump to HD anytime soon. I want a PS3 for the FFXIII's and MGS4's. I guess it's a decent deal for someone interested in both components. For the likes of me however, it's a rip-off. As I've said before, I think the PS3 will be one of those cosoles that'll be absolutely amazing when you purchase it later in it's life-span as opposed to on launch date.

the problem you don't see is that to have a game with so beautiful real-time 3D graphic, you need this blu-ray disc, otherwise the game would fit on like what 5 dvd >.>

i'm not saying that it's the blu-ray that does the performance, but heh the game does take a lot of space now for those graphic and game content >.>

I agree Technophile. I am not making the jump to HD in for at least 5 years which will make half of the PS3's cost a waste of money for me too. So cheap blu-ray player or not, so what? I don't need it because I will never be able to veiw it in HD. And about Storage space, I doubt real time graphics will need the storage space of more than 2 DVD's. Its when they start wasting space with HD prerendered cutscenes that they need a blu-ray disc. And with the power of the PS3, there is no need for prerendered scenes anymore so. In all honesty, I know high def textures will take more memory, but I highly doubt they will take THAT much.
Also, I even have an SACD player already so all of PS3's extra components are just a waste of my money. The blu-ray is the only thing I don't own and I can't even properly use it.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
