Why are pheonix downs 1000 gil? That's a ridiculous price. Aren't they like 250 in the other games?

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Wouldn't it be an easy game if you didn't have to rely on white magic and having a balanced party to stay alive instead of spamming items?

It's an important item and it costs a bunch. Makes the early game a bit more difficult. Go figure.

I was speaking idiomatically.

You can use Tents, too--they're a quarter the price of a Phoenix Down, and do a whole lot more for you.

Granted, they can't be used all the time, but be careful and you won't have problems.

Even better, you can master the new jobs Oracle and Cannoner, and get ABP plus and EXP plus secondary skills. They will raise the amount of ABP/EXP you get to 150%. This will possibly be the first time I will bother to get past level 48 in FF5.
You get Oracle, Cannoner and Gladiator after you got all of the legendary weapons form Kuza Castle by the way.
Spoiler:
Once you do, a scholar will mention that an earthwuake happened way down the south. The new locations is an undersea trench, located just below the Town of Mirages.

The new classes blow by the way.
Oracle and Cannoner will unlock you ABP and EXP up abilities, which are possibly the only use I see for them.

Spoiler:
Gladiator is a physical class with moderate stats and the ability to use all physical weapons (ninja knives, katanas, broadswords, bows, everything but staffs and maces). Their special ability is !Finisher, which will either fail, do a critical hit (2x damage), or will hit weak points to do massive damage. The massive damage is 9999pts of elemental damage. The element is dependant on which character you use it with, Bartz has Fire for example (I think). However it fails too often to be useful, especially against bosses. Once mastered, they can use a Blade blitz command, which attacks every opponent - for pathetic damage.
These guys will also attract more random fights, an ability that can be unlocked as you level up the job.

Oracle is a class that can condemn enemies to various fates. This manifests in spells being cast on the opponents after a certain amount of time after condemning. This is almost completely useless as a) they often fail at doing it and b) most of these condemns are too weak or take too much time. Say, 20 seconds for something akin to Bolt2. Doom is the only useful one I saw (certain kill in 10 secs), but again, the actual condemning takes too much time, especially so late in the game when you already have access to more devestating attacks.

Cannoners look like french navy personell from the Napoleon era, and they can, uh, use a cannon to attack. The cannons seem to do more damage then regular attacks by a small margin, but I also saw them doing criticals as often as Monks do (which is very often), and rarely they will also instant kill some enemies (usually ones that would come close to being killed anyway). You can also buy 3 kinds of ammo for these and mix them with a bunch of stuff, but I didnt look into this yet.

By the way, is it only me or were the animations simplified in many attacks? Holy and Neo-Exdeath's Grand Cross thingy seems a lot less spectecular as it did on the SNES.

More the reason to get white mages to learn and level up FAST. Does this mean that if I get a maxed out white mage, I can already have curaga/esuna/raise, or whatever it's called in this installment, or are the spells you unlock story based.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Here's a lowdown of how the White/Black/Red Mages and Summoners work, since I think you've got it slightly backwards.

You buy the spells. Or, in the Summoner's case, earn them. Obviously, the more powerful ones are earned/bought later in the game, such as Arise (Life 2), and Curaga. A few notable spells are found, but can be purchased near the end of the game, like Teleport and Float.

When your active job is the mage job, you can cast any spell in your possession from that school. Level 1 White Mage? Sure, you can still cast Holy. What the "White Level X" job abilities mean is that when you're a DIFFERENT job, and you pick !White as your other ability, you'll only be able to cast up the same level of white spells as is the level of your White Mage Job. IE, You've got a Knight subbing !White lvl 3. You'll be able to cast up to Cura, but not Holy, or any of the other, more powerful spells.

Thus, the higher you level a White Mage, the higher level of white magic you can cast when you're NOT a White Mage.

Works the same for the other Mage classes except for Blue, since their Magic doesn't have tiers. Mystic Knights also work the same way.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Alright, thanks I think I got the hang of it. It's slightly somewhat different than the license system of FFXII, which really doesn't have preset roles, but rather you need both the magick spell from the shop, PLUS unlock the respective spell from the license board, but that's another ballpark. Thanks again Skills. :thumbsupdood:

There's nowhere I can't reach.

tent doesn't fully heal you, a cottage does. This becomes much more noticeable the more diminished your MP and such is and the further you get in the game.

I got up to the part, still very early in the game, where Lenna finds her father's helmet and heals the dragon. LOL.

Why do I love this game. Seriously.
